Additional Location Information

The Lotus Tree is located in Pelion, the famous mountain of the Centaurs (Location of ‘Mama Mia’), an un-spoilt area of outstanding natural beauty rising out of the Aegean Sea to a maximum height of 1610 Mtrs. A popular tourist destination for over 60 years Pelion is famous for its variety in activities as a consequence of its unique mix of forest mountain stream & Seascape. Of particular interest are the many beautiful beaches and ancient hiking trails cris-crossing the area with stone bridges & waterfalls set against the photographic backdrop of mountain & sea. Combined with the healthy Pelion air, local cuisine and many modern & ancient sites of interest, the area is popular for touring holidays & short breaks away from the city. On request we can also organise a wide variety of activities such as mountain biking, horse riding in the forest, hiking, sailing & sight seeing. These can be tailored to the needs of the group.

The Lotus Tree is situated in an ideal spot to take advantage of these activities. It is located in the centre of Portaria, one of the most popular and accessible of the 25 picturesque villages of the peninsula, being the first village reached from Volos. It is just a minute’s walk to the main square with its tavernas, coffee shops, local markets & craft shops, yet just away from traffic noise amidst spectacular day & night time views to the city of Volos, Makrinitsa & the Pelion Mountains which can be enjoyed from the rooms or outdoor areas. Portaria itself has been the centre of luxury tourism in Pelion for decades due to its proximity to the touristic port city of Volos with its airport & major road, rail & sea transport links (12km) and its reach of the wider Pelion region making it an ideal touring base.

Portaria is just 12 km from Volos with its airport & major road, rail & sea transport links. There is a regular bus service but car hire is normally recommended since the area has so much to see and the picturesque villages and scenery of the area mean a car gives the best flexibility & use of time. In the village itself there are 3 public car parks, 1 almost opposite, though it is possible to bring a car down the short cobbled path into the hotel grounds. Many regular and charter flights arrive at the local airport Volos from most EU countries but it is also popular to fly drive after arriving in Thessaloniki or Athens.
