Mount Washington is the high point of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Its summit is the highest peak in the Northeast at 6,288 feet, making it a popular destination for hikers, skiers, and nature lovers. The observatory on the mountain’s peak tracks the mountain’s renowned harsh weather, and the alpine environment is known for its high winds and bitter cold temperatures. Nevertheless, some mountaineers can’t stay away. For the less adventurous, the Cog Railway brings tourists to the visitor’s center on the summit of the mountain during summer months, making the peak accessible to all. A scenic road also allows cars to travel to the summit and is the route of the annual Mount Washington Road Race and Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hill Climb, both of which attract hundreds of very in-shape athletes. Whether you hike, ski, drive, or ride up to the peak of Mount Washington, the views from the top (on a clear day) will be worth the trek. See more...
