This is a very homely cottage perfect for a romantic break. The jacuzzi can be used as a gently heated plunge pool, perfect for sitting in with a book and a glass of rosĂŠ. (the photo shown is of the blue pool, this will be replaced with a much smarter looking jacuzzi but there are renters there constantly till the end of May this year so I just need to find the time to do the swap and take photos. The house has also had a complete redecoration since these photos but again, I can't get in to take new pictures)
This property is suitable for dogs as it has a completely enclosed garden. Close to the edge of a small typical Languedoc village, in just two minutes you can be walking in the vines. Two minutes the other direction and you are in the centre of the village with its cafe / restaurant, bakery, small grocers and newsagents.
The double bedroom has a queen sized bed with a comfortable mattress and quality bedlinen.
The living area is bright and airy with a comfy sofa, small dining area and of course the wood stove. There are plenty of books and dvds and there is also a built in desk with keyboard, mouse and screen provided and WiFi access included so you can watch movies from your laptop. (No TV)
The kitchen is open plan to the living area and has an electric cooker with oven and hob, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and all dishes, pots and utensils required for cooking up a storm. There is good storage space in the kitchen and the bedroom for those staying for longer periods.
The bathroom has a shower with good water pressure over a full sized bath and an electric loo.
The dining area is on the terrace and seats 6-8. This is the best bit! In France lunch can last for hours and on holidays it's your duty to make it last as long as possible!
Pouzolles has a cafe / restaurant, a small grocers, a take away pizza place, a newsagent and post office. Surrounding villages also have some great restaurants, just ask.
Outside there's a laundry with a washing machine and second toilet.
Whatever the season the South of France, and this little house in particular, is a great place to relax. In Winter we get crisp days with blue skies most days, or when it rains it tends to be fairly warm and it's a good excuse to go wine tasting or sit in front of the wood fire with a book.
In Spring the blossoms are out, there are people out working in the vines, looking for wild asparagus in the hedgerows and there's a general feeling of new growth. In March we often have 17 or 20 degree days so lunch in the garden is a regular occurence.
In Summer the weather is hot which is a great excuse for river, lake or sea swimming and a siesta after lunch! Village festivals are held in each village and Pouzolles has more than its fair share with the "Brasucade" (mussels barbeque) every Friday night as well as two other festivals. The house remains cool as it has thick stone walls and shutters to keep out the sun during the heat of the day.
Autumn is my personal favourite as the grape harvest is in full throttle, followed by the most beautiful colours as the vines change from green to all shades of yellow, orange, red and purple. Beware if you are in a rush, you're likely to get stuck behind a tractor or a harvester or people in cars stopping to chat to each other in the middle of the street. The best solution is not to rush! Another warning - this time of year is not for those who don't like smells! Even though it's wine, it's still farming and there are smells... my house in particular is opposite a distillery where the pips and skins are made into alcohol.
I'm afraid there's no on/off switch for instant heating here, though there is also a petrol heater for really cold days or for instant warmth until the fire gets going. In Winter we still get lots of crisp blue sky days so even if it's cold I often rug up and eat lunch outside.. because I can; this is the South of France!
Price includes linen, towels and final clean. I also provide tea & coffee, herbs & spices plus eco-friendly soap, shampoo and cleaning products.
For dog owners: Tiled floors are easy care and keep the house cool and the dog cool! The garden is small but fully enclosed so there's no chance of him or her wandering off. The village is surrounded by nature for great walks. Because it's vineyards and not livestock, there are no fences so you can walk anywhere.TripAdvisor property ID 3823422...Read more
