Additional Location Information

The location is convenient for reaching the city centre. If you don't fancy the walk down Hibernska and under the Pepper Pot Tower, then you can catch trams 5 & 9 from around the corner on Seifertova. These will bring you pretty much wherever you might want to go. The main railway station and metro (Hlavni Nadrazi) is a 10 minute walk. For those driving, there is protected, cheap parking 3 minutes away. Riegrovy Sady park (5 mins walk) has the city’s largest beer garden, a huge playground, an indoor swimming pool (there is an outdoor one slightly further away), an athletics track, and one of the finest views over Prague, frequented by picnickers in the warmer months, and tobogganists during the winter. The Economics faculty on Italska is only 3 minutes away. For tennis players, there are excellent clay courts at the charming, old-fashioned Italska tennis club.

The area has an eclectic selection of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops, and is proud of its Zizkov identity - there is even a local football team. The stadium is opposite the tram stop. It is definitely worth climbing up to see the world's largest equestrian statue (10 mins), that of the warrior, Zizka, and to visit the massive mausoleum underneath him, where Gottfeld and other communist relics are entombed. Look out for the social realist mosaics. The view at the top is spectacular, and not often visited by tourists. The war museum is located at the bottom of the hill. Also nearby is the farmer's market on Jiri z Podrebrad square, which is open some weekdays and Saturday mornings. It is a very pleasant place to spend the morning, and you can buy top quality Czech produce that is unavailable in shops. Beside this is the TV tower, which you can pay to go up (If you don't like heights, not advisable). Those in search of a musical evening should not miss an evening at one of the city's top music venues, Acropolis, a short walk. The Roxy and the Lucerna Music Bar are also nearby. The Jazz Dock on the river isn't far either.
