Apartment Rental in Campania, Praiano - Casa Bussola
Description from the manager
Searching for that perfectly authentic Amalfi Coast accommodation? Reached via a meandering pedestrian path, this apartment in a villa near Praiano will show you what it's like to live as a local. Rise in the morning to have tea or coffee on the terrace, watching as the sunlight moves across the endless water. Go out and explore Positano or Amalfi by day, then pick up some fresh fish and veggies on your way back to this Praiano apartment for an al fresco barbecue as the sun goes down.
(70 m2) This apartment consists of the entire top floor of a three-storey villa, built into the side of a cliff. It features a luminous, sunny, 40 m2 terrace with an outstanding view of the sea and coast. Partially shaded, the terrace includes a table and chairs for al fresco meals as well as sun lounges for just laying around! There is also a second paved garden overlooking the sea. Here there is a built-in barbecue and seating, shaded by olive trees. The apartment is approached along an old path crossing the village, open only to pedestrian traffic. The path is about 800 meters long and has a total of approximately 90 steps. Here there are no shops or boutiques-- only authentic locals, old cottages, and whitewashed churches overlooking the sea.
(90 m2) The apartment is very tastefully furnished with a nautical theme; furniture and fixtures are matching throughout the accommodation, and everything is well-kept and new.
Third Floor: A terrace adorned with flowering plants and a spectacular sea view welcomes you into a small hall with doors branching off to the various rooms of the apartment. Straight ahead the hall opens into an open-plan living area, elegantly decorated in blue and furnished with a comfortable sofa, fireplace, and satellite TV. A sliding glass door opens onto the terrace. At the far end of the room is a dining area with a table for four and a well-equipped corner kitchen including a four-burner stove, a dishwasher, and a microwave and oven set into the wall. A glass door communicates directly with the paved garden. To the right of the front door, there is a second living area with a divan bed (suitable for one child) leading into a bedroom with a 160 cm queen-size bed, wardrobe, and TV. It has an ensuite bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower. The bedroom, bathroom, and small living area can be closed off from the rest of the house, providing a nice sleeping space for parents and a child. To the left of the front door is a second roomy bedroom with a 160 cm queen-size bed and sliding glass doors opening onto the terrace. The bathroom for this bedroom is located next to the kitchen area, including a sink, toilet, shower, and washing machine.

We enjoyed our stay very much as it was late December, early January, we did not expect great weather, but got two fabulous days, one of over 20 degrees Celsius. However, this meant that the roads were less crowded than in peak season, a good thing when realizing the roads are as thin as spaghetti, though they are two-way, and cars also park on the verge. The property had amazing views and, in the summer, would be delightful to sit on the terrace. As it was, we watched the Amalfi Coast celebrate the New Year with fireworks all up and down the coast while drinking Prosecco on the terrace.
The view and the terrace.
There are three areas we would improve. The first was the bathrooms. Only one bedroom has a private bath; the other is off the kitchen. For a family with children, this is OK. We were two couples, and this really put a dent in privacy for the couple in the bedroom sans bathroom. The towels in the bathrooms are also linen, rather like drying off with a large paper towel for those used to terry towels. We also would have liked to have mid-week linen/towel change. We also missed having: spatula, garlic press and cutting board. It is about 800 m from the parking area to the villa. OK for one of the couples but a bit harder for the second. We were forewarned, however.
The surrounding area is heartbreakingly picturesque with glowing buildings climbing the cliffs over a green and blue sea. Every small town is lovely, including Positano and Amalfi. It was also easy to get to Pompeii which we recommend highly. We enjoyed all the ceramics shops and each couple bought some dishes to ship home. And everything is a dream to photograph for those who like to play with their cameras.

The villa is great. We are already talking about going again.
The views are spectacular. The sun deck is a dream.
We opened a bathroom window and ants came and in started a highway across the bathroom into the laundry room. We used some ant spray and the highway went away.
You should also know that any villa on the Amalfi coast is going to be accessed only through pedestrian walkways with lots of steps. This is a side effect of having beautiful homes built into cliffs - they aren't accessible by car.
Positano is geared towards tourists in the Italian way - high-end shops and fantastic restaurants.

We couldn't have had a better time on the Amalfi coast. We loved Praiano and our villa. It was perfect and we would hope to return again some day. It was the most wonderful vacation and more than we imagined it would have been. I can't thank you enough for all your advice and input and helpfulness. You made us feel confident that we had chosen the right company to do business with. Many thanks again and again for helping to make our first trip to Italy one that we won't ever forget. Next time, however, we will start exercising before the trip!
Our view was magnificent! We overlooked the Mediterranean Sea. There was so much natural beauty all around us. There were flowers everywhere. We had a wonderful terrace area where we could sit and relax. There was so much outdoor room also. There was a great outdoor grill which, unfortunately, we didn't have time to use. We also had great views of the Amalfi coast. And I don't want to forget something very important...upon arrival, we found food staples in the apartment enough to make a meal that night and breakfast the next morning. That was so convenient after traveling so many hours.
To be honest, the location was very difficult. There are many steps to climb and it would be almost impossible for someone who is physically not up to the challenge to stay in this accommodation. We were advised of this going in but once there, we realized almost every trip would include many hills and steep steps that needed to be climbed. Also, we did have a problem with leaking showers.
The surrounding area was everything we thought Italy should be. We were not in one of the touristy places. So you could get a wonderful experience of how the people move through life at a leisurely pace. It was quieter and very peaceful. Very friendly, hospitable, accommodating. We took a car service into the small town of Ravello and enjoyed a concert and another great meal. Positano and Amalfi are both beautiful and worth seeing.
