HBR 4222, overlooking Hanalei Bay (recently featured in the movie "The Descendants") and Mt. Makana (or as some call it, Bali Hai made famous in the movie South Pacific), is a privately owned condominium at Hanalei Bay Resort and managed by the owner. No worries about not getting a response back 4 days later and never on a weekend. I am always available unlike some rental agencies. Recently remodeled KITCHEN AND MASTER BATH and upgraded with designer Tommy Bahama furnishings and a/c in living room and bedroom (not all HBR rentals have a/c in the bedroom), makes this a great choice for your vacation rental on the North Shore of Kauai. My home away from home is the perfect place to stay to enjoy the North Shore of Kauai and all it has to offer like hiking, snorkeling, surfing, SUP, garden tours, golfing and other adventures. The top of the line new kitchen includes exotic green granite from Brazil and bamboo cabinets. All new stainless steel appliances have been added as well. The all new master bathroom has a zen like/spa quality with granite, travertine shower and vessel sink. This is not your average Kauai rental. This is one of the best at the resort. “10 days in paradise”
Reviewed July 21, 2013 on Trip Advisor
We stayed in HBR unit #4222 and 4221 and believe we found paradise. Our condo units were adjoining, which made it very nice when traveling with two college students. It gave us all plenty of room to spread out. We rented from the owner and it was absolutely a pleasant experience. She was very helpful in tips on seeing the island and even provided a safety video of swimming in the ocean for us to view prior to our arrival. She provided everything one could need for a terrific vacation from snorkeling gear, tennis gear, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach bags, DVD and CD player complete with videos and music. Other amenities like a complete kitchen, washer and dryer, books on the island, and other good reading material just made the experience wonderful. She made renting very easy and enjoyable. The resort was absolutely gorgeous, our view from the lanai was spectacular. Our favorite thing to do was having our morning coffee on the lanai looking at the bay and mountains. We enjoyed the pool, free Mai Tai's on Monday, and even the walk to the beach. Snorkeling was excellent in front of the beach. If you were too tired to walk or needed a lift with groceries there was always someone to pick up in a golf cart. Our family absolutely loved staying at this resort in unit # 4221 and 4222.
Trip Advisor review Feb 2015:
5 of 5 stars
We spent two wonderful weeks in unit 4222 at HBR and didn't want to leave! The resort has the best location in Princeville, overlooking Hanalei Bay and the mountains. We spent many hours sitting on our lanai looking at some of the most gorgeous scenery in Hawaii. The whole complex is lovely: stunning views from many vantage points and landscaped pool and tennis courts. Access to a beautiful beach next to the St. Regis. Also close to Hanalei and all that has to offer. Unit 4222 is newly updated, spotless, and equipped with everything you need. The owner, Joan, is terrific! Responded to all of my communications immediately and is invested in making sure her guests have a great vacation. One of the best owners I've dealt with over the years. Staff at HBR we're also very helpful and friendly. Highly, highly recommend!!...Read more

From the moment we drove onto the property we knew we had landed in the lap of luxury and elegance--- yet with all of the comforts of home. The condo was amazing: seriously up-to-date with beautiful furniture , comfortable and well stocked. The big screen tv was a surprise we enjoyed. But the real gift was in the spectacular views of the waterfalls, the wonderful walking trails where you can stop and take photos of your favorite flowers and other greenery in the impeccable gardens of Hanalei Bay Resort. All over the trees are beautiful orchids. At night the smells of the flowers come out. I particularly appreciated the owner, Joan, for taking such an interest in what activities and day trips would be perfect for my husband and I. I was shocked to find out that snorkeling was right there at the beach below 4222. Joan recommended and we thoroughly enjoyed the fern grotto boat trip, the farmer's market in Hanalei, the Luau at a plantation, and the free hula shows at the shopping centers around the island! She also recommended specific restaurants and they were perfect. I loved Hukilau Lanai near where we stayed a few days on the east side and every night we walked around the darling town of Hanalei and found places to eat we loved. Just be aware that you will do a lot of walking around the resort. I found the exercise good for me. We really made memories and look forward to making more. Read more

Stay-cation: Arrived and was happily greeted and checked in by the reception desk. Professional , with real aloha.
They provide bell service, that not only takes care of your luggage, but drives you to your accomodations with a personalbe and weloming bell person.
Walked into condo unit # 4222 , in the Palms building, and was immediately enthralled with the wonderfully appointed living and dining area, and totally amazed at the view.
Words will not really justify, the vista of the lush tahiti like moutains, waterfalls and Hanalei bay. We will never forget it. But it is not only a view, but a feeling of warmth and peace that absolutely overwhelmed us. It is one of those magical times in life that allow total recall, weeks , months , or perhaps years later.
Located in Palms building, # 4222 is near both of the pools, and very close to the easy trail that leads down to the beach. We chose to walk down and back up, but for those who wish, the resort will drive you down in a classy golf cart. Don't feel like walking back up ? No worries, there is a direct phone at the beach, just call and they will be down to drive you back up to your condo, pool, or whatever.
We enjoyed the tropical style pool, as they even have small waterfalls to swim up to and let the water massage your back and shoulders.
Adding to the fun, for those active folks, are great tennis courts.
The staff, were just wonderful, and no matter where you encountered them, they would smile an aloha and even show a shaka sign. Each person who we passed, staff or guest, was friendly and answered to our greetings with smiles and bright aloha attitudes.
Living in the condo, was like living in paradise, and wonderful luxurey. Unbelievable view from the living room, and huge lanai, as well as from the king sized bed in the large bedroom area.
Everything for us was outstanding.
The Kauai north shore is the american Tahiti.
The HBR # 4222 is superb in everyway. It is aloha.

The resort was absolutely beautiful and Joan's condo itself was one of the best
in the place. The view was unmatched and the Tommy Bahama decor was very
modern and lent a refreshingly tropical theme to our stay. Couldn't have asked
for a better place. Also, having the St. Regis just steps away was an added treat
when looking for a five star spa and resort.
Would highly recommend #4222 at Hanalei Bay Resort!

Hanalei Bay Resort remains our 1st choice for vacation in all of the Hawaiian Islands. HBR is in and of itself a great depiction of this “GARDEN” Island. It’s flower gardens invite weddings; It’s pool is unique…all natural rock. We love the fact that guests of all ages love to come back here often. The many views from this property are the same/better than you see from rooms in the new St Regis Hotel…the former Princeville Hotel where HBR share it’s beach.
Joan Bettencourt’s Condo has the sought after view we have been looking for…for a long time…Bali Hi! You also watch surfers on the outer waves of Hanalei Bay from the condo’s lanai. This Condo includes the personal comfort touches in the decorations and necessities plus all the beach and tennis extras you will need. Even many DVD’s…You name it….Many amenities will be there welcoming you and your guests. Joan truly cares about your vacation experience at 4221-22. Once you vacation here you too will desire to return to the magic of Joan’s generosity in her awesome condo at HBR.

Our stay at HBR 4222 was one of the most pleasant and relaxing vacations I
have ever enjoyed. I have stayed in a timeshare unit at HBR previously and had
retained a less positive impression, but this private, immaculately maintained
unit is nothing like the timeshare. The view of Hanalei Bay and "Bali Hai" from
the windows of the bedroom and sitting room is breathtaking. I can hardly
believe I spent a week with those views! The building is central in the resort
and very quiet, close to the small pool and the barbecue grills, and very near
the path to the beach. We enjoyed preparing our own breakfasts (and some
dinners) in the fully equipped kitchen, and also dined several times at Happy
Talk Lounge on the premises. The town of Hanalei, with its many dining and
shopping options, was just a few minutes away. This was a wonderful vacation
week and I do hope to experience "paradise" again at HBR 4222!

HBR 4222 is a beautiful condo! The grounds are fabulous. The condo itself is roomy and well-furnished. Joan has taken it upon herself to supply her guests with all of the extras that they may need or want during their stay. She is a pleasure to deal with!!

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in Kauai and were fortunate enough to stay at the Hanalie Bay Resort #4222. Before our trip, I did a great deal of research, trying to select a very nice place to stay since this was a special time in our lives and our first trip to Hawaii. We have traveled a great deal and have stayed in
4-5 star hotels, but to be perfectly honest, I would rather stay in this beautiful condo ANY time. First, the owner kept in regular touch with us before the trip, providing us with information that would help us enjoy our stay even more. She told us of the best places to eat, the best beaches, etc. She even emailed us when we were there to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The condo was decorated beautifully. the kitchen was fully equiped, flat screen TVs were in the living rm and bedrooms, every possible thing that you might need for recreation was available for us ie.snorkeling gear, beach umbrella, beach chairs, etc. The bedroom was heavenly; decorated with Tommy Bahama furniture. The view from the three lanais cannot be put into words. Just breathtaking! Will we go back to this particular condo? Absolutely!!!

SUPERB! FABULOUS! EXTRA SPECIAL! -!-
I must say that there are few places in the world that I have been that can compare to Hanaley Bay Resort. This place is just fabulous. You get an amazing place with amazing amenities. Hanaley Bay Resort is the place to be.
I have been couple times at Hanalei Bay Resort, and by far 4222/1 are the best units on the resort. The units are newly remodeled, the rooms are clean and spacious, the units have full view of the Hanaley Bay which is out of this world, I can?t describe how amazing is to watch the sunset over there. It is really a dream place.
I hope you will be the lucky ones to stay at 4222/1

It was a pleasure to stay in this unit. We had stayed at the Hanalei Bay Resort before, but were not thrilled with our unit. Therefore, I took special care to research the individually owned units, and I was thrilled to find Joan's beautiful place. The unit was clean, comfortable, and decorated very nicely with a tropical feel. We really enjoyed having breakfast on the lanai every morning and taking in the gorgeous view. Joan was very helpful and provided great customer service. You can tell that she really cares about your experience in her island home. We will stay here again in the future and look forward to working with Joan.

It has been over a year since we stayed at Joan Bettencourt's vacation home in Kauai and can't wait to return to this little piece of paradise.
What makes the entire trip so special is the beautiful accommodations Joan offers, and her constant follow-up and attention to detail. When you walk into her home, that's the feeling you get, that you are home. It is beautifully, but comfortably, furnished with many of those additional items you need for beach or travel around the island. Just a perfect setting, wonderful views. Loved to drink morning coffee on the Lanai. Always hard to leave after my little glimpse of paradise.
