Description from owner

Description

Behind the historic limestone facade of the buildings of rue François Oustrin, you will find a tastefully decorated contemporary, self- contained apartment with its own south facing terrace, with Mediterranean plants. 'Appartement François' is sunny, bright and airy. The classical windows from all rooms face onto either the sunny terrace or the very private 14th century limestone atrium.

The Canadian owners, with their love of architecture, history, art and design, recognize the uniqueness of this apartment and want visitors to enjoy a special south of France holiday experience. The apartment has been furnished to suit families, couples or singles.

Entry is from the 'pedestrian only' street, through traditional glazed doors, on to a cobblestone lobby. A comfortable flight of stairs leads to 'Appartement François' on the first level. Inside there is a spacious, comfortable, attractively decorated and furnished living space.

'Appartement Francois' is in the heritage heart of town and only minutes from shops, supermarkets, studios, art galleries and so much more. Pezenas will appeal to people of all ages and interests. It is situated between the mountains and the sea. It has the best weather in France and provides a perfect base for travelling around this beautiful region of southern France.

Further details indoors

The apartment has a particularly spacious feel being on one level with high ceilings throughout and exposed beams in the dining area. Light floods into all rooms through high windows reaching almost to the ceiling. It has been redecorated in a contemporary style with quality modern appliances and the latest technology.

The living area is open plan with a lounge dining area. The sitting area has two sofas, an ottoman, a coffee table, an LCD flat screen TV, a sound system and a DVD player. Free WIFI is available; a computer for guests' use and a writing desk is also located in the sitting room. The adjoining dining area has a table and six chairs with a matching dresser. This area opens out directly onto the sunny, south facing terrace garden through large arched glazed doors. The ¾ metre thick limestone walls of the old building can be appreciated here and through the adjacent kitchen window overlooking the terrace.

The garden terrace is furnished with a table and seating for six, and a modern barbeque. There are also two deck chairs available to use. A large extendable canvas canopy provides exactly the required amount of shade, and potted citrus trees and Mediterranean plants surround the terracotta tiled floor. The terrace is very private and set back from the street overlooking a cobbled courtyard off rue François Oustrin. It is not easily visible from the street or surrounding buildings making the apartment and terrace also very quiet. An extendable clothes line is located on the terrace, but well hidden.

The kitchen is well equipped with a sink, oven, stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and all the usual small appliances. You will appreciate the generous supply of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans.

The large main bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed, bedside tables with lamps, large wardrobe, a chest of drawers and two chairs. The room has two beautiful high classical windows overlooking the 14th century atrium. A well appointed en-suite complete with two basins and a bath adjoins the bedroom. There is a sound system available in this room.

There is a separate shower room with sink as well as a water closet. There is a hair dryer in each bathroom as well as one hair straightener in the apartment.

The second bedroom contains two single beds. It has a large wardrobe, bedside tables with lamps and a chair. This room has two large classical windows overlooking the private atrium and is across the hall from the shower room and toilet. The bedrooms are quite separate and private.

There is an air conditioner in the apartment as well as stationary fans for each bedroom.

Further details outdoors

Parking is not a problem at Appartement François as there are 2 carparks very near. A reasonably priced 'pay' carpark is at the end of the street, only meters away; and a huge 'free' carpark is located nearby. The bus station is a short walk away.

Response from the owner I am so glad you found our apartment Diana and that you embraced all there is to offer in Pezenas and area. I love getting to know my guests even though I don't always get to meet them. I feel like we have things in common by the simple fact that we were drawn to the same apartment. Response from the owner You cherish this apartment for all the reasons we do! I often look out those windows and marvel at sharing the same view as others enjoyed, centuries before. We always love knowing that Appartement Francois quickly becomes home for people like yourselves who travel so far, to soak in all that Pezenas and area has to offer. Hope to have you stay again.

“Wonderful return visit”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2017

We first stayed at the apartment in 2012 and were enchanted by the roof terrace and the central location. When we proposed Pezenas as part of our holiday this year, the whole family were keen to re-visit Appartement Francois. It has everything a family with teenage twins could want – including two bathrooms! The whole apartment is comfortable and well- equipped, and the air conditioning was a fantastic feature during this particularly hot summer. Pezenas is a beautiful place, but it is also a great location from which to explore the wider region. Appartement Francois was our first choice to revisit the area and we were not disappointed.

Response from the owner We always love having return visitors to the apartment because they know the routine and are able to do the things they didn't get a chance to do the first time around. It must have been interesting for your twins to revisit, being that much older. We are so pleased you chose Appartment Francois for your summer vacation and look forward to seeing you again!

“Magnifique séjour ! Wonderful location!”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2017

Looking for a stunning apartment in a cute historic town in the south of France nested between beaches and hills? This is it! My partner and I loved staying at this prime property. It was our first trip to the south of France, and we loved being there in the month of April: warm enough to sit outside on the intimate private patio and without the crowds and bustle of high summer in Europe. The property is located just at the edge of the old town, so it is close to parking. It was incredibly quiet, and well appointed with rooms uncharacteristically large for the town's medieval origins. All tastefully renovated and comfortable, Pezenas is within striking distance of sooooo many destinations, and the hosts supply a ton of useful info. A 1 !!!

Response from the owner Merci pour vos commentaires! You are right -- April is an ideal time to be there, when everything is fresh and unfolding for the season ahead. We are especially glad that you chose Appartement Francois for your first trip to Pezenas and area. We hope you will return again down the road to explore even more that there is to offer and we will be happy to assist you again. À plus tard!

“Great Winter Get-Away!”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2017

We escaped the Prairie winter and spent 3 months at Apartment Francois in Pezenas. It was a great base from which to travel. We managed our travel by train and bus-didn't have to drive at all! Top European tourist spots were easy to travel to and much less crowded during the winter. We enjoyed meeting local people at the shops and the English Tuesday Club! We were never bored and the local French people were very accommodating even though our French was terrible! We definitely want to return to this lovely town and excellent apartment in the heart of a historic village. The apartment had everything we needed for our winter stay and we were very comfortable in our "home-away-from-home".

Response from the owner It's really great to hear from you about your time in the apartment! People sometimes forget how special the south of France is during the winter months. But you embraced it all during January February and March and you benefited from fewer crowds, relaxed locals and the great location that Pezenas is. We hope you'll return again soon!

“Beautiful terraced apartment in historic Pezenas”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2016

We spent a week in this lovely apartment and thoroughly enjoyed it. After each day spent cycling on the tiny roads through the surrounding vineyards and villages, it was always a treat to return to our "home" in Pezenas. The apartment is spacious and beautifully decorated. The terrace provides a wonderful outdoor space and adds to the total charm of this beautiful apartment. Located in the heart of the historic district, it is steps away from numerous shops and restaurants. A boulangerie just around the corner kept us supplied in delicious breads and croissants, and we quickly became regulars at the coffee shop across the street. We would highly recommend Appartement Francois and Pezenas to anyone travelling to this beautiful part of Southern France.

Response from the owner We are so pleased to know that you enjoyed your stay at the apartment. You also packed a lot in during your stay! It doesn't take long to feel at home in Pezenas as there is something for everyone. We hope you will return again and maybe cycle along the Canal du midi if you didn't get to that this time.

“Fabulous first family holiday”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2016

We travelled to Pezenas with our toddler and new baby, as well as Granny. The owners of the apartment made things so easy for us by providing a cot, high chair, toys and even a potty! The space is child friendly, no gaps on the terrace and a lovely big bath to clean the children when they return from the beach! We took our own buggy and used a little padlock to secure it in the entrance although we had no concerns over safety, the neighbours were very friendly and welcoming of the babies, The location is superb, minutes from many delightful restaurants, loads of boulangeries to choose from at breakfast time, well stocked grocers, walkable supermarkets and the wonderful local market. We also found a pretty park with a little shady play area and the local outdoor pool complex. Both are about ten minutes walk from the apartment. The owners suggested some lovely day trips, both north and south of Pezenas, as well as things to do in the town. A highlight was the Friday night l'estivales where you can buy local food and wine and enjoy life music in a bustling street carnival. There are 3 amazing ice cream parlours within 5 minutes of the apartment, a delicious olive shop (buy some oil to take home with you), and the patisserie next to the Cafe des Arts on the Main Street (opposite the street fountains) has the most spectacular array of cakes you could ever imagine. You can buy treats there to enjoy with your drinks from the cafe next door, Sunday breakfast time was great for people watching. And when you need a break, you return to the bright, airy apartment, beautifully furnished and with everything you need for a wonderful holiday. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Response from the owner Having travelled with toddlers ourselves over the years, we know how important it is to keep them in mind when stocking the apartment. So we are glad to know you made good use of things for the wee ones. (And now we know where the playparks are as well thanks to your detective work :) Knowing how busy your life must be with two young toddlers, it pleases us to know that you and your family were able to enjoy a holiday in the sunny south of France and we hope you'll consider a return visit to discover even more that the region has to offer.

“Fabulous character”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2016

We have just returned from spending a week at this most charming apartment in the heart of Pezenas, close to all the action yet once in the apartment it is so quiet. When we arrived we were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine left by our host and all the information required about the facilities in the apartment and places of interest and directions to getting there. All the comforts of home, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and sofas and the added bonus was the terrace a wonderful outside space to chill out in, have breakfast, just as described. The apartment is clean, modern and bright. Pezenas is a beautiful place to visit. The locals are really friendly and there is so much to see and do for young and the older person. The buildings are amazing to look at and with every turn you just say ‘Look at that…’ ‘Wow! Isn’t that pretty?’ Once you have been out for the day exploring the Languedoc region all you wanted to do is relax and this apartment is the place to do it. Sandra and family have really made it homely with air conditioning and fans to cool you down. We didn’t want to leave. The only thing I would change is the pillows for some memory foam pillows (personal choice aches and pains).

Response from the owner Thank you so much for sharing your holiday experience. We are delighted that you found Appartement Francois to be comfortable and well equipped. Reading your reactions to the stunning buildings and surroundings that abound in Pezenas reminds us of our own response the first time we arrived! You have also captured one of the best aspects - that once inside, or on the terrace, it is still quiet and relaxing after a day of sight-seeing. Thanks also for the suggestion for pillow alternatives!

Response from the owner It's always nice to know that people appreciate our holiday suggestions - the Canal Midi itself is so near to Pezenas - great for walking, cycling and boating.
