“Perfect hospitality in a perfect location”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2011

With cottages that look straight out of a Country Living feature, stunning views over the Golden Valley and faultless hospitality - Holling Grange is a perfect holiday spot. We visited over the Easter weekend as a family treat, and Dawn & Cedric could not have been more welcoming. Chocolat, our chicly furnished cottage, was a great base for days spent enjoying the wonderful local walks (rolling farmland, windswept Black Mountains, etc) and exploring the pretty book town of Hay. After a day in the fresh air, we spent our evening meals at Holling Grange's chef's table, with fabulous aperitifs prepared by Dawn, and Cedric's superb French cooking (dishes such as spring risotto with pea shoots; langoustine with scallop veloute and ravioli; Herefordshire beef cheek bourguignon style; creme caramel, etc) - it's seriously good food. The highlight of the trip, though, was a day picnicking on a Brecon canal barge. Dawn and Cedric prepared a feast for us: home-made pates and quiche, salads and cheeses, not to mention a glass or two of chilled wine. Truly memorable. We're already planning the next trip... "À la prochaine!"

“Absoultely fantastic from start to end”

“Wonderful hosts, lovely position, great cottage, fantastic chef!”

Down a long track, you find a secluded house with the cottages across the way, and uninterrupted views across the beautiful English countryside. Our cottage had lovely French-inspired furnishings, with so many little finishing touches - it shows how much care and attention the hosts take in making sure you have a great stay. And what hosts! Cedric is so passionate about his food, it is a real experience to eat with them (strongly recommended!). We brought guests and had a delicious meal and a wonderful evening. Both Cedric and Dawn go out of their way to make your stay exactly what you want it to be - always helpful, and a real delight. Can't recommend it enough!!

Response from the owner Dear Angela, What can we say....this is why we do this for!!!!! Merci Beaucoup! Cédric et Dawn

The accomodation was delightful with tasteful and comfortable furnishings. The welcome from our hosts was amazing, they really treat you as friends and can't do enough to help. I would definitely recommend the 4 course dinner as an added extra - a real treat which was outstanding in every way and great value for money. Thank you Dawn and Cedric for a fabulous weekend.

Response from the owner Bonsoir Nikki, We just wanted to thank you for all your kind words!!! It was lovely having you and we hope to may welcome you again some time in the future. Kindest wishes Cédric et Dawn

The warmest welcome awaits you at Holling Grange together with the most fantastic food cooked by the owner Cedric. Far more than clean and comfortable, the accommodation is tasteful and homely and extremely well equipped. A great place to stay to either purely relax or explore the area - great location for walkers too.

We stayed as a party of 6 for a 40th birthday celebration. The cottages are very tastefully furnished and immaculately clean with every home comfort. The surroundings are lovely and it was just a shame that the sun didn't come out as much as we would have liked! Our hosts were fabulous and cooked our party a marvellous evening meal complete with Birthday cake. I would love to go back to Holling Grange with my family and I am already trying to plan a suitable time for a return visit!

Response from the owner Bonjour Verity, Thank you so much for your kind words!!!! We look forward to hopefully welcome you & your familly one day? Kindest wishes Cédric et Dawn

“A fantastic memory - maybe we should keep this as a secret!”

We stayed with Cedric and Dawn a couple of years ago in the South of France and loved it and we're glad that they have not lost their touch. We rented 'Chocolat' with 4 other friends and it was all we expected and more... a stunning cottage, well furnished with good quality and ample facilities and some very nice newly refurbished bathrooms.. Dawn has a real flair for interior design. The location is great with lovely views over beautiful countryside and very handily placed for visits to Hereford, Ross, Hay and the black mountains (where the walking is really good). We booked a Saturday night meal for all of us and we met up with 3 other guests and Cedric and Dawn to have an 11 person dinner party which was both great fun and a gastronomic delight... what more can we say but a great, great, great place to stay!

Response from the owner Merci merci merci merci!!!!! ........merci beaucoup! Amitiés Cédric et Dawn
