“Excellent place but not for very young kids and people with mobility issues”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2015

We fell in love with Katla house when we saw its photos on the bookings website. However, no where was it mentioned that the this beautiful house is built in 2 levels. The kitchen, the sitting area ar… More

Response from the owner Dear Snigdha 0102, thank you and your family for your kind words towards our house. I?m however very sorry that you and your family didn't like the interior and the things that scared you daughter....very sorry. I did trust you had seen all pictures and read all information regarding the house, informing that it is not suited for people with mobility issues for the house is in two levels...children of all ages are also welcome, but of course with parental responsibility and guidance. With that said we would have to change majority of the house to be able to have an upstairs and a downstairs bathroom and we wanted to change as little as possible when we renovated the house, years ago. The stairway is not spiral shaped its just an old narrow design in an over 70 yrs old farmhouse. We did however design the smaller WC just for our guests extra comfort for the house can accommodate 10 people. Again Im really sorry you and your family, especially your daughter being scared at night, because of our taxidermy birds, which is my husbands preferred hobby,he did stuff those two birds..... and our cow skin on the floor, our leather sofas and our lamp and especially our pride the Icelandic sheepskins which our forefathers in Iceland wore as clothes centuries ago. Thank you for mentioning the barbecue deck,we simply love it ! Also thank you for mentioning all the stuff we provide in the kitchen as well in the bathroom,we consider that as a bonus for when travelling, one always forget some small stuff, spices, tea, shampoo or even ladies personals. Thank you for your review.I hope you and your family enjoyed Iceland as much as all of our guests have ;) Dora

Great house in remote southern Iceland. The views are astounding and the house is beautifully furnished. Warm and cozy. A home away from home.
