Description

Riverside Cottage is in a lovely location, just yards from the banks of the River Coquet in the centre of an idyllic rural Village. We purchased and lovingly renovated the Cottage in 2011, retaining all its character and charm and have been using it as a holiday home ever since. We've done everything we can to make your stay as comfortable as possible with the personal touch, from providing a huge welcome basket of local produce from the Running Fox over the bridge to a complete guide to the surrounding area.

Contact us with any enquiries stay, at, northumberlandholidays, dot, com

Built by the Duke of Northumberland in the 1890's the Cottage offers excellent accommodation for four people, with two bedrooms: one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. It has full the benefit of full gas central heating with a warm and cosy lounge with open fireplace for that extra romantic touch. It's so relaxing to enjoy a fire in the evenings with a glass of wine, particularly in the winter months. The Lounge has a comfortable three piece suite, 40" LCD TV with built in DVD player and Sky HD Freeview, Blu-ray player and a Wii games console and high speed fibre broadband wifi internet to entertain the kids, along with a range of books and games. The remaining furniture are antique family heirlooms and we have original oil paintings throughout downstairs by my late grandfather. The character has been maintained with original wooden window shutters and the beautiful cast iron fireplace.

The separate dining room leads through from the lounge and also has a unique cast iron bread oven in it's own fireplace, a beamed ceiling and comfortably seats four people. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday and offers an electric oven with gas hob, microwave, family sized dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, fridge/freezer and Ipod dock. As we use the Cottage a lot ourselves we have made sure it's more like a home from home than a holiday cottage and pride ourselves in the equipment we provide and the standards we keep.

There are two bathrooms in the property: one being a handy downstairs cloakroom and the main bathroom upstairs, both have modern fixtures and fittings with a shower over the bath in the main bathroom. There is also an outside seating area for the warmer months with log store and planters.

The master bedroom has traditional window seats and offers beautiful views over the river Coquet, bridges and the village of West Thirston. We also have chandelier lighting and traditional solid wooden furniture, along with a wall mounted 19" LCD TV with freeview so that you can relax and watch TV from the comfort of the double bed. Our bed linen is exceptional - the finest 100% Egyptian Cotton, all from the White Company. The second bedroom is a comfortable twin room with two single beds, 15" LCD TV, chest of drawers and ample storage space.

Parking for the property is just on the bridge opposite the property where there are plenty of free spaces.

Families are welcome to stay and so are members of your extended family... the pets! We provide as standard dog towels, feeding bowls and spare leads, the riverside walks from the front door are perfect for the dogs that stay with us. We are happy to accept one well behaved dog at this property and there is a pet fee payable. Please enquire if you have more than one dog and let us know the breed and we still may accept your booking.

We will also provide an initial supply of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls, hand-wash and cleaning cloths.

A range of amenities including local shops, post office, café and a charming country pub with restaurant are all within easy walking distance of the property. The Running Fox opposite the Cottage is a wonderful Cafe and artisan bakery and the recently renovated Northumberland Arms pub is a 2 minute walk, both offer some of the finest dining in Northumberland! We are so lucky to have them on our doorstep and it makes staying at Riverside Cottage all the more enjoyable.

There are numerous local tourist attractions, riverside walks and scenic countryside within the immediate vicinity. Don't forget to bring some bread along to feed the ducks by the river (and the often come to the back door asking to be fed!). The stunning coastline of Northumberland is just a short distance away. Having grown up nearby we know that Riverside Cottage is the ideal base to explore all that Northumberland has to offer, from it's famous castles and award-winning beaches to walks, cycling, golf, water sports and fishing or one of the county's many attractions.

We immediately fell in love with Riverside Cottage when we first saw it and I'm sure you will too.

Further details indoors

We have also provided a few extras to make your stay more comfortable: High speed fibre wireless internet access (WiFi), 40" HD LCD TV with built in DVD player and Sky Freeview HD in the lounge, Bluray player, DVDs suitable for the family, Nintendo Wii Games Console with games. Entertainment including books, magazines and board games & LCD TV with Freeview, wall mounted in the Master Bedroom, LCD TV with Freeview in the Twin Bedroom, IPod Dock downstairs.

Getting around

While most of our guests do have a car there is plenty of public transport links to and from the Village. Easy links to Alnwick, the coast, Morpeth and Newcastle if you do want to leave the car at home for a day out.

Interaction with guest

I'm always on hand if you need any assistance during your stay but prefer to give you your space to enjoy your holiday. I'm just a phone call, text or email away and I'll get right back to you! Happy to help with any advice you may need about the area at all, just ask!

Response from the owner I'm very sorry to read that you felt my response was negative and reduced the rating of your review because of this, I always start by thanking guests for taking the time to leave feedback. I always try and respond to points made simply so that prospective guests know that I take the feedback seriously and promptly see to any maintenance issues eg the bathroom sealant or replacing a broken dishwasher. This was in no way intended to cause offence and I apologise profusely if the meaning of my response was misinterpreted this way. I have reviewed the guest folder and I can't find where it asks guest to remove waste from the property, as I mentioned we provide two large bins in the yard which we empty at every changeover. I will be reviewing all written communication so that I can find where this has been mentioned as again it's certainly not my intention to give this impression. Kind regards, Andrew.
