Description from owner

Description

Villa San Toma is a large luxury villa immersed in the heart of the veneto wine region, but perfectly located just 30 minutes from Venice by train and 20 minutes drive from the popular beach resorts of Lido Di Jesolo & Caorle (Ernest Hemmingway's favourite seaside town). The train from the local town of San Dona Di Piave transports our guests into the centre of magical Venice where you disembark at the side of the Grand Canal and from there can either walk or take a Vaparetto (water bus) down the Grand Canal. We are convenient to both Venice Marco Polo and Treviso airports (30 mins from each).

The villa sits at the end of a private road nestled amongst hectares of Walnut farm and a neighbouring Veneto Vineyard where guests can taste and buy lovely Veneto wines. PLEASE NOTE CAR HIRE IS ESSENTIAL TO STAY HERE. We are 5 minutes drive (7kms) into the large local town of San Dona Di Piave. The property is equipped with every luxury from the Venetian antique beds and furnishings to the luxury Egyptain Cotton bedding, Duck Down Pillows and Duck Down Duvets (anti-allergy of course). UNLIKE MOST ITALIAN VILLAS THERE ARE MOSQUITO SCREENS ON ALL OF THE WINDOWS HERE but really the mosquitos aren't too bad at all here, although the tiger mosquitos can be bad in Venice so do come prepared.

There is no air conditioning but please don't let this be a concern as the house is really big and cool inside provided you keep the shutters closed during the day. We also provide fans in all the rooms case they are needed, but these are only needed for the hottest few weeks in August. The Villa is accessed by double electric gates and there is plenty of parking space.

The living area off the kitchen (complete with new oven, new cooker top, new dishwasher, microwave and coffee machine) leading to the terrace has been decorated in a more contemporary style, but still with a touch of the classical and opulence. This area houses a large top end Pioneer plasma TV, Home theatre system, DVD player and SKY Satellite TV with International channels. Double doors from here lead onto the glamorous tranquil tanning terrace, which is very Nikki beach style and is lit up at night by wonderful candles & torches to make a perfect setting for outdoor entertaining. A BBQ frames the terrace area for that summer outdoor dining experience.

A tour of the fabulous local wine cantinas is a must during this holiday and if you like Prosecco you are in the heart of the finest Prosecco producers here.

Our wonderful neighbours (who are more like family) will be happy to let you taste and buy their wonderful Veneto wines to accompany perhaps a fresh fig, Mozzarella and Basil salad, made from our own fig tree in the gardens. We also have plums and pomegranates.

The biggest town nearby is San Dona Di Piave which is about 5 minutes drive. The local village of Cessalto is walkable through the walnut farm in about 20 minutes on foot. There is also a very up-market Italian Designer outlet store about 5 minutes away (VENETO DESIGNER OUTLET mcarthurglen.it/noventadipiave/home/home.php) where you can buy e.g. Frette bedding for a fraction of the prices you would pay in Venice, plus Armani, Prada, Fendi and many other Italian brands. There are local restaurants within a few minutes drive that are a really high quality, with very low cost compared to what you will experience in Venice. The local supermarket is only 3 minutes drive away. The road we are located on runs alongside a canal that is widely used by local fishermen and in the area around the villa you can see much beautiful wildlife such as Peacocks, Pheasants, Cranes, Rabbits and Hares. Why not catch your own fish and cook it on the BBQ?

You are ideally situated to visit the entire Veneto region from Villa San Toma, including the beautiful historic town of Treviso, the home of Benetton, with wonderful shops and restaurants (30 mins drive), Verona (made famous by Romeo & Juliet - 1 hr drive), Padova, Vicenza, Bassano Del Grappa, Cortina Ski resort, Montebelluno or even take a day trip to Lake Garda and see Gardaland with the kids. In the beach resort area of Lido Di Jesolo you will also find the popular Aqualandia water theme park (the largest in Europe) for the kids to enjoy and the Jolly Roger pirate ship which offers a fun day out for families..

Guests may also pay to use a fabulous swimming pool/ luxury pool club at the nearby 5 star Relais & Chateaux Villa Foscarini (just a 10 minute drive). They charge €20 per person per day for our guests to use their beautiful pool area. Alternatively there is a swish pool club called Rosa Blu about 20 minutes drive from the villa where you can spend the day for £8 per person and they offer packages to include lunch and drinks or dinner and drinks with dancing.

*N.B. The Intercity train Venice to San Dona Di Piave takes 20 mins as it makes no stops but if you catch a regional train which makes stops at towns on the way, the journey can take 30 minutes.

“Luxurious Villa Close to the most beautiful city in the world”

Reviewed 27 May 2014

Villa San Toma was so large, luxurious and comfortable that we didn't want to leave. With Egyptian Cotton sheets and Duck down pillows and luxurious terrace furnishings it really was heaven. We loved going into Venice by train from the local town and visiting the wineries all around the Villa. The beach resort areas were also lovely. The two local restaurants recommended were amongst the best we have ever eaten in and the huge upmarket Outlet for Italian designer brands was only 5 minutes away. Treviso was like a mini Venice. The whole experience just left us wanting more. Thank you to the owners for such a flawless vacation home and guide to the area.

Response from the owner The Villa is exactly 7kms drive to the train which takes you into Venice where you disembark right on the Grand Canal and you can drive to Venice in 30 minutes. Not so far from one of the finest cities in the world. It's also only 5 minutes drive to a really fantastic and inexpensive local restaurant. As for the heat wave, it was very unusual this year for the week that Sally and her family stayed with us and normally wouldn't be anywhere near that hot, so please don't let you put that off. Most of August is a pleasant 25-30 degrees most times.
