************ CORONAVIRUS PROCEDURE ************

Under the current circumstances, we have decided to open up July and August to short bookings, as well as to the usual full weeks.

This website is only able to quote accurately for holidays of three nights or a full week. For other lengths of stay, you would be charged too much. Therefore, please make an enquiry, rather than a definite booking and then I will have an opportunity to correct the quote.

Please note that, on changeover days at the cottage, as well as the usual cleaning and linen changes, all surfaces will be disinfected. Duvets, pillows, pillow protectors and mattress protectors will be replaced with clean ones. We are leaving a 52 hour gap between one set of guests leaving and another arriving.

Our cleaners and laundry have asked that we contact all our guests just before they arrive to ask them if there is possibility that any of them have COVID-19 or have been in contact with it. This will allow them to take extra steps to protect themselves.


We are proud of our property which is a Grade II Listed Georgian cottage over 200 years old and has been sympathetically renovated and respectfully modernised where appropriate. The cottage is located in amongst shops, restaurants, pubs and the harbour. Our purpose is to provide everything possible for our visitors to enjoy their holiday in Whitby which is such a beautiful, picturesque fishing town.

From all three levels of our cottage, including the dining kitchen and the separate patio and garden, you can enjoy the classic view of the Church and Abbey sitting above old fishing cottages which cling to the East Cliff. There are wide sea views beyond the piers of the harbour.

We have a gallery on the second floor and a snug on the first floor, both of which are extra seating areas which you might not expect to enjoy in a fisherman's cottage and both have the fabulous views. There is a further seating area in the main bedroom too.

Over the years we have listened carefully to comments provided by our visitors and try to provide every reasonable facility including books, DVDs, games, exhaustive local information folder, wi-fi in every room, locally-made biscuits and even crabbing lines!! Our property is perfect for families, groups of friends and for smaller parties who are offered special rates out of season.

We provide a parking permit for West Cliff car park (the one at the Leisure Centre). If guests are bringing more than one car, we provide scratchcards for on-street parking.

We live locally and always offer help and suggestions before any holiday and also while you are here if requested. We are passionate about our town and our business and our Comments Book is a joy to behold. Please visit us and add your own comments!!

The website is unable to work out prices correctly other than for a week or two days. If you would like to visit for different lengths of time, please send a question/enquiry rather than booking straight away and I should be able to give you an accurate quote.

We keep a travel cot in the cottage (under the four-poster bed) but, because babies vary in their bedding needs, please bring you own cot bedding.

Getting around

There are steam trains that run to Pickering, Grosmont and Goathland and other stops. Regular trains run up the beautiful Esk Valley to Middlesbrough and many blovely villages en route. The 840 Coastliner bus stops at Goathland, Thornton le Dale, Pickering, Malton and York on its way to Leeds. The 93 bus runs up and down the coast from Middlesbrough to Scarborough making trips to many villages easy.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your booking page. To change your dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Lynne (the owner) a message.

If Lynne (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
