Hickory Cottage offers huge discounts off rates quoted by rental agents for a 5-BR home, particularly with 275 ft. of waterfront. Even my 91 y.o. mother enjoys the wide-water views from the 1300 sq. ft. of covered porch area, most of which is screened. The gentle slope to our dock allows her easy access with only her cane. The covered dock and two towering oak trees offer plenty of shade. The great room and porches make it the perfect house for reunion of family or friends. Avoid the coves crowded with other docks and enjoy the privacy with a view of the lake which includes the Roanoke River channel and Hickory Cove with Smith Mountain in the background. While the house sleeps 4 couples and 4 singles (12 total) easily as overnight guests. The lake is relaxing and low-key yet there is plenty to do ... swimming (May to October), boating (rentals available), kayaking, fishing, golfing, shopping ... or just spending time in the hammock or porch. The covered docks include a boat lift. The open docks are both floating and fixed, for boats up to 50 ft. and also a jetski lift. Photos of the views, the house, and rooms are available. You may also schedule a visit to see Hickory Cottage personally in advance of your visit. Additional $100 cleaning fee. Lifts are available for an extra charge. Lot and home is wheelchair "friendly" for those with special needs.

Offseason guests particularly enjoy the close proximity to nearby colleges including 45 minutes to Liberty, Randolph and Lynchburg, an hour to Roanoke, Jefferson, Averett, Sweet Briar and Ferrum, 1.5 hours to Virginia Tech (Blacksburg), Radford, VMI, and Washington & Lee. Your college students do not want you to spend the entire weekend with them ... maybe just the day, so you will have Hickory Cottage as your destination to which you can find relaxation of your own while getting in a college visit too.
