“Very disappointed - poorly maintained unit & property”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2012

When we arrived at the unit, we found the unit to be dirty and poorly maintained. There was a big slippery ice patch on the porch right in front of the door, the carpet was very dirty and stained. After parking in the driveway, both cars were stuck in 4 - 6 in. of snow -the daytime weather was 40- 55 degrees. Both cars were stuck and we could not get them out. It was difficult getting a hold of Big Bear Vacations only for them to be rude and tell us we should have chains (even though chains were not required on the roads). They did send someone out with cinders which helped with one car, but we had to call and pay a local tow company to pull the other car out. In addition to the dirty carpet inside, there were also cob webs, spiders, no shower curtain liner on one of the showers (water got all over the floor). There was also a plastic mattress cover on the bed which felt like sleeping in a hospital bed. The heater only heated the main living area (no vents in bedrooms or bathrooms) and there was no key for the gas starter to the fireplace. The unit is in a good location and has potential, but definitely needs work. Even with it being a holiday week, the unit was severely overpriced for the condition it is in. In addition to the nightly fee, they have the nerve to charge a $115.00 cleaning fee. There was also a $20.00 processing fee and "other" charges which totaled up to over $900.00 for only two nights. I filled out a complaint form in the office and I have also sent an email to two representatives who are allegedly the managers, but have not received any response.

Response from the manager Thank you for taking your time to give us your feedback, as it allows us to address concerns that our guests might have with a vacation home. As of April 2012 this house has new carpet and linoleum. The snow does does causethe need to replace carpet more frequently than off the monuntain. Unfortunately, it is common here in the San Bernardino National Forest to experience difficulties with spiders and other kinds of wild life. This is especially true during the winter when it is cold outside. We appreciate your input and take all reviews into account when addressing guest concerns, and hope to have the opportunity to help you with your future vacation plans.

“Could do better”

Reviewed 3 Dec 2011

Even though the website said "non-smoking", the cabin smelled of smoke & there were cigarette butts in the backyard by the hot tub. Why didn't they find this out when they cleaned? So, the first thing we had to do (because my daughter has bad allergies and asthma), was open all the windows to air out the house. Even worse was that the room heater does not heat the bedrooms, so we froze at night. Look for another place to stay.

Response from the manager We apologize for the inconvenience you had while stay with us. However we very much appreciate the input about your stay in Bear Heaven. The information each of our guests offer us after a stay is very important as it helps us evaluate each review and do out best to use the feedback that our guests give us to improve each guest’s personal experience. We look forward to helping you in the future.

“Oktoberfest sucked”

Reviewed 19 Oct 2011

The place was very nice but when I spoke with your sales team about Oktoberfest they made it sound way better than it actaully was. It was imposible to get to (you told me there would be taxis everywhere) it was impossible to get in (your company told me to go early and gt tickets then you walk in later on) and it was imposible to get back to our cabin from the evnt that w did not attend. It took 4 hours to leave and come back successfully doing nothing in the process. I will not be returning to Big Bear anytime soon.

“Warm Cozy Cabin Near Lake, Restaurants and Minutes from Slopes”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2010

We stayed at this cabin in the last couple of years and love coming back. The kitchen is well equipped and the jacuzzi tub is hot. Kids loved the large yard where there was plenty of snow to make a snowman. The cabin is very cozy and with crispy clean sheets and towels. We will be back again this year!

“Wonderful place to stay with family - great location”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2010

Enjoyed the cabin very much. Large yard for kids, walking distance to village, a few houses from the lake and beach. The cabin was cozy with so many bears we lost count. The spa was so strong it could blow you across the yard! Kids had a wonderful time. Will be returning during ski season for sure.
