“So close to luxury yet so far from perfection”

Reviewed 3 Dec 2014

The property owners did not respond kindly to the feedback we provided them after our stay in Sept. 2014. We did not expect them to excited about a bad review but we did expect that an apology and/or offer to make up for it would be provided. We tried to explain to them why it was off the mark and received push-back, denials and deflection. The description below is what was originally sent to them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We recently rented this property for a large family gathering of about 20 people. 14 people stayed in the home and the others were staying close by, we all gathered at this house for entertaining. It was a beautiful looking home with great scenery, quality furnishings and close proximity to main street. The management company was very professional, responsive and a pleasure to work with. There is one part that needs some serious attention; this home is not stocked to adequately address the needs of 14, let alone the 24 people the website claims to accompany at one time. Overall the house was a luxury home that was stocked and supplied from a ski shack mentality. This property should NOT be listed to accompany 24 people, while it does indeed include the basic amenities, it doesn't accompany a large group appropriately. We're not saying this is a bad property but it is lacking in so many little things that eventually all add up to a frustrating experience. We are hoping the management steps up and supplies this house to the level at which it was designed and architected for, luxury. Here are our notes from our stay in mid-September. Pros: 1. Beautiful property with open floor plan, large windows and comfortable furniture. 2. Very responsive and professional property management company. 3. Gorgeous kitchen with large Wolf range with double oven. 4. Two kitchen sinks and dishwashers in kitchen. 5. Adequate supply of linens and towels. 6. Beautiful master suite. 7. Great bathrooms in every room except the main level office/bedroom. 8. Great pool table and hot tub Cons: 1. One iron and ironing board for the entire house is not enough. We'd suggest putting an iron/ironing board on each floor of the home to better accommodate the guests. Also, drapes or something are needed in the main level 2nd bedroom. There is clear glass on the doors and do not offer a sense of privacy one expects from a bedroom. 2. One refrigerator for 25 people! Do not plan on buying all of your groceries at one time because there isn't enough storage space in one fridge. An additional fridge in the garage or near the pantry would go a long way, instead of having to rely on using the apartment fridge and intruding on those staying in that apartment. 3. There is only 1 non-bedroom bathroom available for visiting guests. A second 1/2 bath would be great off the laundry room or converting the add'l closet by the back door. 4. Fireplace in the lower level did not work. 5. There is an issue with the plumbing because the pipes in the lower level had a consistent tapping sound coming from them at night. If you are not a deep sleeper you will be annoyed all night. We had two different couples try to stay in the lower master bedroom and they all couldn't sleep through it. 6. Both the lower and main level sound system/TV were wired incorrectly. The TV turned on and you could change the channels but could not change the receiver to play music through the surround sound speakers. Either the setup is extremely difficult to operate and a guide is needed for the guests or it was redone incorrectly. 7. Dishes - in the main kitchen cabinets were a lot of dinner plates which was appreciated. The bad news is that the top 3 dinner plates were clean, underneath them were about 10 - 15 plates that were dirty!!! Not dishwasher-didn't-get-it-all-clean kind of dirty but we-just-scrapped-them-and-didn't-rinse or bother to wash them dirty. There was dried food all over the plates and we had to wash them before using them, it was very off-putting. We discovered this lovely surprise as we were getting ready to feed everyone dinner the first evening. 8. Cooking utensils were of low quality and had partially broken spatulas and tongs. There is this great big kitchen with only basic utensils from wall mart, why? 9. Basic cooking supplies were not provided; cooking oil, flour, sugar, salt, pepper, etc., etc. They did have a spice rack but all of the spice jars were used and empty. 10. Pots and pans were of poor/low quality, similar to the utensils...why get cheap on us when you have such a beautiful kitchen. There was only one skillet and it was 10", have fun making pancakes or eggs for 15-25 people on that. 11. There was a flat top surface on the range; however, it was hard to access, sticky and very dirty all around the edges - after the dirty dishes discovery, we didn't bother to use it. 12. Kitchen faucets need to be replaced. At one time, they were probably lovely and were the kind were you can pull on the faucet and extend it to wash more of the sink. If you bend the extension at the right angle it will spray water all over you. 13. Balcony, there were two actually and a patio but one of the balconies had nothing to sit on. The other balcony had one table with four chairs and a loveseat rocker. The patio area had another table near the hot tub with four chairs...this house is advertised to accommodate 25 people comfortably. They must have not meant comfortably outside. 14. Garage apartment - It did have the very very basics like towels, linens and a few plates and cups. It had one small set of silverware. It did not have a wine/bottle opener or any other kind of kitchen utensil of any kind. No spatula, no mixing bowl, no whisk...nothing! It did not have any seasonings, baking/cooking supplies. It did not have any storage bowls. Very nice kitchen with completely bare cabinets. When you turn on the cold water, it is hot for about 2 - 3 minutes before turning cold. 15. Cleaning crew - Checkout time is 10am SHARP! The management company was kind enough to allow us to check out at noon but as we were packing up, the cleaning crew showed up at 11:30. While they did acknowledge the noon checkout they sat in their van in the driveway and stared at us, making for an awkward departure. We checked the property's website and verified it was not rented for a few more days, so where is the rush? 16. Parking - This property only accommodates parking for 5 spaces. That includes the three spots in the garage, of which one spot was occupied by the owners SUV, so really there is only two. This is a rental home that accommodates 25 but only parking for 5 vehicles; it is strange to expect that 5 people will all travel in a vehicle with all of their luggage. 17. Entry steps - Many broken tiles make for a lousy first impression. Many tiles were cracked, others were just missing. The tiles were quite large making the "imperfections" unmistakable to anyone entering the home and possibly posing a safety risk. Make sure this is fixed before the ski season starts. Overall: As mentioned before, this is a lovely property with stunning views and easy access to main street. Our group did have a good time; however, everyone was a bit let down after reading the descriptions of it being a spectacular luxury property that has everything needed. Luxury is expecting the description of the home and its furnishing to be high-end, fully functioning, free of needed repair and clean dishes! When a company oversells the description of its property, it leaves the buyer feeling foolish for believing the hype. Invited Homes should be better than the rest if it is trying to advertise and differentiate itself in the way that it does. Quoted directly from the main website, "It's no wonder then that Mont Vista Chateaux is the epitome of vacation home perfection."...apparently our definition of perfection is quite different from the marketing folks at Invited Homes. The home was built and designed for luxury. The home was stocked modestly, certainly not luxury and far from perfection. Have the cleaning crew or management team do a review of EVERYTHING in the home to make sure it is all working as expected. Looking back on things, we would not rent or recommend this property to someone unless we had assurance that either the property features and description match the reality or they write more accurate details in their property descriptions.

“Perfect Place for a Family Vacation”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2014

Our family has been gathering every two years since 2000 for a full family vacation (six siblings and family members, averaging 18 to 20 people each time). As one sister says, we have become "vacation house snobs" after staying in places from Duck, North Carolina, to Santa Fe, New Mexico. This house ranks very close to the top in terms of providing all the right kinds of spaces! Bedrooms almost all had attached bathrooms, and they were located away from the main spaces so the gamers and the sleepers were both happy. There were three separate seating areas, one on each floor, to accomodate Mahjong, pinochle, movies and video games simultaneously! The kitchen was also more than adequate and having an extra fridge up in the garage apartment meant plenty of room for food and beverages. For the times we wanted to leave the house--gorgeous views and easy access to hiking trails, Peak 8 and downtown Breckenridge, including via the convenient Purple Line free shuttle. (Don't miss the crepes at Crepes a la Cart!) Two minor problems: One was that the dining space was not big enough for all of us to gather around one table--even using the side island seating we still had to send some to the deck or the living room, which is not what we prefer. Two was that with 18 people each with one or two devices, the wifi coverage was sometimes spotty in parts of the house, and would drop out periodically. All in all, an excellent choice, with responsive management who helped us with questions and concerns immediately.
