We stayed at Le Sanctuaire in June with family, our group was four couples and 3 young children. This was our first holiday of this kind and prior to arrival any queries or concerns we had were dealt with very quickly. Upon arrival we were met by Denise and Bob who live nearby and look after the property on behalf of the owners. They were very welcoming and showed us around the property and advised how to work things like the sauna, hot tub etc. The property looked great in the photos we had seen but was so much more impressive when we saw it for ourselves. The villa was spread across three floors. On the ground floor there was a large living/dining area leading to a fully equipped kitchen, double bedroom and large bathroom with large bath and seperate shower. To the other side of the hallway on the ground floor was another lounge area with wine chiller, music system and games which was an ideal area for socialising on an evening. This led through to a gym area with a good selection of gym equipment. The gym had patio doors leading to the garden, the garden could also be accessed from the main hallway. On the first floor was a large open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area, this area had patio doors leading to a large balcony area with lots of seating and tables. This floor had two bedrooms and another bathroom. The second floor was similar to the first floor, consisting of large open plan living/dining/kitchen area, two bedrooms and bathroom. All floors were furnished to a very high standard, kitchens had everything you could need including large american style fridge freezers on each floor. All floors had digital tv including most uk channels and free WIFI was available throughout the property. Also provided were a selection of books/DVD's/CD's/board games. Bedding, towels and dressing gowns were also provided. Each floor had its own unique style and could be used as a self contained apartment as doors leading to hallway/stairs could all be locked. The amount of space the villa offered meant that even in such a large group it was always possible to have space to yourself should you need it. Each floor had a welcome pack which included wine, beer, tea/coffee, biscuits and an information pack offering details of things going on nearby and how to resolve any problems. During our stay we encountered a slight problem with internet and outdoor lighting, using the contact details provided Bob and Denise came round quickly to resolve this for us. Externally, to the front of the property, was a courtyard with ample parking for 4/5 cars. Leading from the courtyard was a well equipped washroom incuding large washing machine and separate tumble dryer, also in this area was bikes that could be used during your stay, tennis rackets/balls to use at nearby courts and large picnic baskets. To the other side of the courtyard was a large games room, this included a brand new full size, good quality pool table, flatscreen tv with nintendo wii, board games, fridge and music system, there were also a couple of sofa's in this area and two toilets. At the rear of the property was a very large garden area, this included large heated pool, large lawned area ideal for the kids, plenty of sun loungers, large hammock, two large seating areas under gazebo's again all good quality furnishings and all cushions were provided and there was ample storage to keep everything covered at night. Also in the garden was the hot tub and sauna area. The hot tub was a good size, easy to use and well lit for nightime use. The sauna was also very easy to use and could comfortably house 6 people lying down. This area had two outdoor showers and was fenced off so you didnt have to worry about children getting access to hot tub or sauna. The garden area is entirely enclosed meaning children couldnt get out. The garden and pool was maintained weekly. The garden was a very good size meaning you could sit in the sun at any time of day. The villa was situated in the lovely village of St Saud. In the village was a grocery store, bakery/patisserie, butchers, pharmacy, bar/cafe and two restaurants all within two minutes walking distance. Both restaurants, Le Sully and Hostellerie Saint Jacques were very nice but i would highly recommend Saint Jacques in particular, we had one of the nicest meals we have enjoyed at this restaurant. A little further up the village was a large lake, park area and a cafe/snack bar. The nearest major supermarket was about 10-15 mins away in Nontron, we had no problems finding Nontron and had a choice of 3 supermarkets in this area. Nontron also hold a weekly market on a Saturday, we never visited this but did visit markets in Piegut and Brantome, both within 20-30 mins drive. A few of us also went canoeing in the picturesque town of Brantome, this was both enjoyable and reasonably priced. We found the people in the village very friendly despite the language barrier, locals in the bar even making the effort to recommend places to visit and providing us with the number for someone who could recommend a good spot for fishing. Le Sanctuaire is definately somewhere we would stay again and would highly recommend this property. The facilities really did offer something for everyone. Living in such luxury accomodation for a week was a joy and our only regret is that we couldnt stay longer!
