“Good condo - Great location - LOUSY management”

This is my first ever negative review of any establishment and I travel for my job - so this review doesn't come from a newbie in the field of acceptable customer service. The condo fit our needs, the view, the pool, the location were excellent for Padre Island. Our experience started when we checked in. The front desk person was in a loud, heated argument with a guest whose vehicle had been towed. The staff was rude to the customer, cutting them off, not helpful and then ignored them when I came to check in. An "excuse me - please let me help this guest and I will get back to you" - would have been appropriate to say to the other guest. Our issues began with the elevator on Friday nite - after checking in and taking our luggage etc. up to the unit we went to buy groceries - when we got back - elevators were not working - they were stuck on 3 rd floor and we had to haul everything up to the 8th floor. Sunday the elevator "trapped" my two grandchildren and myself at the 8th floor. The doors would not open or completely close. Quite scary for 3 and 5 year olds and nerve wracking for myself. The maintenance guy did his best and we were out in about 20 minutes. On Sunday nite there was a big storm and the elevator went out all-together. Consequently - Monday and Tuesday there was zero service. Down 8 floors is possible - up 8 floors several times in a day is not good for old ladies! When we asked for some form of compensation - they said the elevator going out on Sunday nite was an act of God - sorry. I would agree with that if the elevator hadn't gone out both Friday and Sunday before the storm. There is also no daily housekeeping, if you want clean towels you have to go and exchange them, there is no dish washer soap, detergent for washing dishes, trash bags - stuff that one doesn't usually have to supply when staying at a hotel/condo. None of this info is on the website - so you don't go prepared. If management had been willing to give some kind of compensation it would have made the difference between a bad review and a good review. Comp a nite for a future stay, 25% discount on our stay - something - but no - nothing. We won't be going back!

Response from the manager Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with other potential FlipKey customers, and I’d like to take again the opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience you had during your stay over the memorial weekend, we are elated to hear that the unit you booked met all your specs, and you enjoyed our varied amenities. Suntide III such as other homeowners associations across the country it is regulated by its bylaws, South Padre Island gets utmost busy especially during the holiday weekends which makes difficult for island day-visitors to find parking space; parking at Suntide III is restricted for owners and for those guests with a permit, Suntide III at no time allows outside visitors as per its bylaws, reason why I find it pertinent to clarify that the person that deliberately bashed at the front desk clerk at your arrival was neither a guest nor a potential customer, it was an outsider who violated our HOA rules by parking within our premises, being the reason why vehicle was towed away. Memorial weekend was forecasted with severe weather including thunderstorms, the area experienced significant power flickering that in consequence made us loss power erratically starting on Friday, and causing our systems to inevitably shutdown including elevators, cable, and internet and phone service. Force majeure events such as a prolonged shortage of energy supply impedes anyone from performing its respective obligations, and you are correct issues arose and materially affected our performance, event which could not reasonably have been foreseen, at that point Suntide III is not liable; you were timely explained in a previous communication how Suntide III took immediate action to resolve the elevators undesired situation and to minimize the inconveniences caused to many of our guests including yourself. Suntide III is a vacation rental property, and doesn’t feature services like a standard hotel, our service is limited and daily housekeeping service is not part of the services that we provide; terms of rental at our property estipulate that we provide to units the first set of complimentary toiletries and guest is responsible to restock during the stay. We regret your decision, however rest assured that we appreciate your business and we take pride on taking care of our guests with the highest level of friendly and responsive service.
