Description from owner

Description

This is a generous sized property, ideal for gatherings. Wheatsheaf Barn was built in 1715 and carefully restored by the owners in 2011 to create a contemporary interior within the original fabric, using quality oak joinery and luxury fittings. The 60 foot open plan living area offers very spacious accomodation with a dramatic double height area. There is plenty of space to cook, eat and socialise together. A feature of the property is the upstairs landing sitting area with its folding doors opening onto the outside balcony and views westward over the river.Accommodation is a bedroom with an en suite (with bath and separate shower cubicle) and a bed that can be two singles or zipped together to form a super king size bed,; a further double room and a twin bedded room sharing another bathroom; a double bed settee on the balcony landing as photo; and a further downstairs room with two single day beds and adjacent shower room. Not everyone will have the same comfort or privacy, but people seem able to work this out!!

Getting around

There is a station in the village (Wrabness) with a service once per hour to either Manningtree or Harwich, which connects at Manningree with the main London to Norwich line. To London will take about 1.15 hours.

Interaction with guest

We are usually available to greet you, or there is a key safe if we have to be out. During your stay we are available if you need anything but generally will leave you in peace. We are happy to receive and put away your internet shop so you can get into your break straightaway. We keep a small flock of sheep which is usually in the field behind the house. You are very welcome to join in at feeding and lambing times.

“Don’t book it until you like spiders and dirty bathrooms”

Response from the owner You arrived at 18.00 on a Saturday evening. We apologised to you immediately that one of the baths was unusable and assured you that it would be repaired by the Monday when we got the part. We refute that there was any smell because we had obviously sealed the drain. This fault however helped your plan because it was never your intention to stay; you had not taken in any bags or got the children out of the car. We assume you had double booked, given that you left at 18.45 with young children. Your attitude throughout was aggressive and intimidating and we did not want you to stay; it was my instruction to Trip Advisor that your money was refunded. One of your complaints was "how do we know the the pack of cards is complete?". We have never had such an ugly interaction with guests in twelve successful years of running our property.
