If only all holiday rental cottages were to this high standard. The view was stunning, the cottage tastefully furnished and decorated, the beds comfortable and the garden full of unusual shrubs and plants. Full marks for every aspect. The photo of the side of the cottage does not do it justice - we had rejected it several times because that but needed somewhere at short notice so risked it - and Dunns Cottage turned out to be superb.
“A great cottage for xmas with friends”
A well equipped cottage with a very good balance of character and modern features. With enough room and facilities for two couples and two dogs over the Xmas period, we had a great stay. The views from the front windows over Porlock bay are fab and there's lots of walking straight out from the cottage, we definitely recommend the costal path from porlock weir towards Lynmouth and if you want to drive out for great food try The Royal Oak Inn in Withypool was lovely as normal, (it's a favourite). We really liked the location and would happy stay here again.
“Nice cottage cracking view.....”
Good cottage, very clean, everything you need for a short break, brilliant location and excellent sea views. Only negative - Parking is an issue if you have more than one car - we were there in December and lots of properties were empty - so this would be a real problem in summer.
Response from the manager Glad to hear you enjoyed Dunns Cottage and had a great time there! To clarify the parking situation, there is an off-road parking space directly outside the cottage. Further parking for any additional vehicle/s is available on the roadside (for free), alternatively there is a pay and display car park at Porlock Weir if you prefer. We hope to see you again soon :-)
What a find - off road parking, much better garden than is shown on web site, dog friendly, and excellent decor and cleanliness. We loved the bright bedrooms with seaside theme and the views across fields of beautiful red cattle to the salt marshes and the sea beyond. Our dog loved the walks in the woods on Porlock Hill and from there down to Porlock Wier where we humans sat and enjoyed a well earned coffee. Only downside is that the water pressure upstairs is very poor.
“One of the best cottages we've ever stayed in!”
There was a group of five adults, each of us well traveled, and we all said numerous times how much we loved Dunns Cottage - one of the best we've ever stayed in. Everything was just so lovely and homely, it really was very hard to leave. The view was amazing, the kitchen was well set up with everything you could ever need, the garden was superb, the beds very comfortable and so on. Nothing to fault whatsoever. I'm now looking for an excuse to go back!
As always Dunns cottage de-stress, relaxes, and is the place to catch up with your sleep, if you lead a busy life this is a oasis, the new lay out and new bathroom is pleasing and was overdue, the kitchin refit is really good, although I find it strange that the door opens on to the cooker, makes cooking interesting! only down side is there is no clothes hanging in bedroom 2, I'm sure just an oversite, but its that good we have booked again!
“Excellent location and a great family cottage with brilliant fac”
The cottage is in a great location with lovely views to the sea, the facilities are excellent, very modern and clean and extremely child friendly.
“Dunns Cottage Jan 2014”
Unfortunately our cottage in Porlock Weir was flooded, fortunately we were moved, without fuss, to Dunns Cottage. The cottage is warm, comfortable and very well equiped. The views are fantastic. There's a great walk to Porlock village behind the cottage. Parking is really only for one car.
The cottage is just right for a relaxing break, cosy, quiet & comfortable, log fires are a must just for that "feel good" feeling,Kitchen & bathroom are having a make over which was needed, looking forward to seeing the results next year, location. good for walking, great sea views, parking off road just a bit tricky, village & shops good for most requirments, nice helpful people,Eating out, Porlock Lapswood rest evening meal is a "must", "Kitnors" tea rooms in Bossington must be the best in the UK, Lunch & Cakes to die for! Chaple Knap cottages run by chris Lister & mrs Lister where a joy to deal with, nothing was to much trouble, We have booked our choice of cottage's already for 2014. Alan & Annie ayton
“Everything you could need and more.”
Pros: Picture perfect cottage, very comfortable, tastefully furnished and decorated, well maintained - everything you could need with many thoughtful extras. Large, secure garden also well looked after. Two terraces with comfortable garden furniture and fantastic views - perfect for enjoying an early morning cuppa or early evening glass of wine, listening to the owls. Truly, a place you could spend the rest of your days. Porlock is a charming village (approx 15 mins walk) with 2 mini-markets, Post Office, church, pubs & restaurants, hardware, outdoor leisure, art & craft shops and more. It also has a garage - with attendant service!!! We would highly recommend staying at Dunn's Cottage - with provisos - see below. Cons: We kept to pathways all week with the dogs always on the lead and never allowed to run loose. We were very upset, therefore, to find that, even though our dogs are regularly groomed and protected with Frontline, we had to consult the vets during the week after finding over 30 ticks on them. Ticks are prolific on Exmoor and we have since learned that it is a hot spot for ticks carrying Lyme Disease. This is serious, folks, as it can affect humans too making you ill for years and can even be fatal. Therefore, regrettably, we would not recommend Exmoor as an area to visit with your dogs - as for people, ensure you protect any bare skin. We strongly believe that the Exmoor authorities should be doing much more - not only to publicise this problem but to try to contain and eradicate it.
