“Fantastic Home Away from Home”
This cabin is very well appointed and well situated on the mountains with a beautiful view. The road is not heavily traveled and the stay is relaxing and quiet. Everything was as advertised and better. WE have traveled frequently and this is by far our best experience.
An excellent retreat, especially for anyone looking to get away. When pulling into the steep driveway you may be slightly discouraged, but once you walk in the front door of the cabin all of those thoughts immediately disappear. It is an absolutely gorgeous cabin with amazing views, as well as nearly anything you can imagine to make it feel like your home away from home. It is a bit of a drive to get to some of the towns to do shopping or sightseeing, but all are worth it. It was around a 45 minute drive to multiple white water rafting sites, 15-20 minutes into Soco for some great little mom and pop restaurants, 30 minutes to Waynesville for grocery shopping, and a cute little old time street for some walking and shopping, and about 45 minutes to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park where there are more hiking trails than you can ever walk on one visit. This place is definitely a place to stay when you want to visit Maggie Valley, and get away from everything for a bit. We had a wonderful honeymoon here!
Response from the owner I would take at least 10 minutes off of all of his time estimates.
We traveled with a dear couple from England and were more than pleased with this rental!. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable, beautiful and very quiet and relaxing. We only wish we could have stayed longer. Everything exceeded our expectations and Jim, the owner, was as warm and welcoming as though we had known him all along. Hope to be returning soon!
“Beware! You'll never want to stay anywhere else ever again!!!”
From the moment we arrived at the cabin, we were all blown away at the beauty that surrounded us. Once inside the cabin, we were all very impressed (and one of us is a Real Estate Appraiser). I've stayed in many rental cabins and condo's, but I've never seen one that was as beautifully designed and built with such high quality materials. I didn't feel like I was in a "rental". I felt like I had entered a "home". Everything we needed was available. My friend and I kept saying "I bet we need to buy _____." I'm telling you, down to the "chip clip", it was available. We made our way to the grocery store and cooked to our hearts delight without ever needing any cookware or utensils. From the entry way to the bathrooms, living room, fireplace and kitchen, it was all amazing, but let's talk about the deck. Absolutely beautiful!!! To wake up every morning and see those beautiful mountains was a blessing. Serenity at it's best. We'd sit on that deck in the mornings then again at the end of the day, and we both marveled at the quiet & stillness that it offered. All you could hear was nature and your own thoughts. How many times do we, living in 2014, get to be at peace with nature and just our own thoughts. Unless you're blessed enough to live on top of a mountain full time, I'd say rarely. It snowed the last 2 nights of our visit. The driveway is steep and it was covered in snow. Jim, owner of the cabin, had contacted me prior to the first snowfall and let me know to park at the top of the drive. On the day of our departure, he worked tirelessly to remove snow and ice from the drive, drove down the drive with his ATV & trailer, took our luggage to the top of the hill and helped us to load the SUV. He was definitely our hero that day (4 women with luggage is a nightmare without having to pull it up a steep drive). I titled my review "Beware! You'll never want to stay anywhere else ever again!!!" because throughout my travels, I've never stayed anywhere that was as nice as Bear's Den cabin in Maggie Valley, NC. I will definitely be returning!!!
“Wow! What a view...”
The cabin is excellent with upgrades through out...however, that rustic feeling is still there. There are two great big beds in two nice sized bedrooms. Lovely linens and two well appointed bathrooms. The great room was terrific with a beautiful fireplace that is cozy and adds to the charm. I really appreciated the wonderful deck off the front of the porch - what a view. There is a grill which we used and thoroughly enjoyed. We didn't use the fire pit, but there was wood there for us had we the inclination. It was great to sit on the great room leather furniture and watch the colorful mountain views out the picture window or the fire crackling after dark. All-in-all, we are definitely returning. It was a great week!! Thanks for the memories!!!!
“Beautiful place to stay, inside and out!”
My spouse and I stayed at this cabin on a mountainside in August. Everything about it was grand. It was easy to get to and not far from plenty of mountain vacation activities. The house itself was splendidly decorated and equipped with the finest appliances and accessories. The ownership was easy to connect with and ready and able to accommodate any question or need. I would without hesitation recommend this property. Clean, cozy, rustic, and still modern.
“Perfect for quality, location and privacy.”
We are Floridians as well and couldn't have been more pleased with what we found at the Bears's Den. We looked at each other with smiles as we walked into the cabin and saw the view, the tastefulness of the decor, and the quality of the construction and furnishings. Then we walked out onto the deck to a temperature in the high 70s (in August!) and to a quiet broken only by hummingbirds coming to the feeder. This cabin was built by someone who loves the mountains and shows respect for the environment and the guests who stay here. Although near the top of the mountain it takes only a few minutes down a charming winding road to reach Maggie Valley and nearby Waynesville. If you are looking for a getaway from heat, humidity and a respite from a hectic schedule, this is THE place.
“Awesome mountain cabin”
My wife and I were looking for a mid summer break from the florida heat and humidity. We love the Ashville area and had heard from friends about how beautiful the Maggie Valley area is, so we decided to give it a try this trip. We were not disappointed. The brand new 2 bedroom log cabin we found on trip advisor measured up to or exceeded every thing we were looking for. The cabin is at 5,000 feet situated in a heavily forrested area with beautiful mountain views from the deck. The peace and quiet of the location is superb, and the cabin is fully equipped with all the amenities including a washer and drier. The cabin is beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable, and the king sized bed in the master suite is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in away from home. We especially appreciated the gas fireplace in the living area-we had 2 rainy days during the week we were there, and the fireplace made the living room very cozy-The blue ridge parkway is less than 2 miles away, and gives easy access to the spectacular scenery from the Great Smoky mountain national park, Asheville, Cherokee, Bryson City, and a host of other activities. Jim the owner lives down the road from the cabin, and is a great host. He let us know when we arrived that he was available immediately to help with any problems, and was a font of knowledge on the local area and recommendations for what to see and do. We completely enjoyed our experience and would love to come back some day--great value for the money
