“Good apartment shame about the location”
The apartment itself was good. it had everything we needed, including guides on what to do and maps, lots of restaurant recommendations. Markus was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. it is well placed to reach all the sights, but it is in the middle of the red light district. there were women stood outside the door the the building. the locals don't seem to be phased by this. we were quite conscious of our safety, even though we probably didn't need to be.
Response from the owner We are glad, that you enjoyed the apartment, our town and the places recommended. We understand, that arriving in the historical center for the first time, the fact that prostitution in some typical lanes is accepted as part of the life of the district by inhabitants seems to be very curious for visitors especially, if this is happening only during the day, when all the shops, groceries, jewelries, clothing-boutiques and restaurants are in full swing. When the shops close, the ladies disappear. There is no red light district, being in the central position of only a few meters from Via Garibaldi, the most important and elegant street of Genoa protected by the UNESCO for it's unique value. It is true that all side streets of this aristocratic street are more or less interested by the world's most ancient job. Fears are totally unjustified, proof is, that within a few weeks, the municipality opens the most modern kindergarten of the historical center in Vico della Rosa.
We first came to visit Genova in the summer of 2009 and absolutely fell in love with both the city and the apartment. So much, that we decided to come back to spend our summer holidays here again in 2010! The apartment is located right in the heart of the historical center in a lively street with small shops that sell local foods, handcrafts etc. - but not mainly to tourists but to locals. Other than in a hotel, the city literally embraces you here and you instantly feel at home (just, everthing is a bit more beautiful in this city...). The apartment itself has been cozily furnished with an eye for details and with a personal touch that reflects the owner's own voyages. He is just great. He loves Genova and always gives us a tour to the less known but most interesting spots in town. He is also very helpful. Once the internet didn't work; we called him and he was there within an hour to fix it. We tried out his other apartment in Santa Maria di Castello when we came with 2 others. It is georgeous, too, and even more elegant, but we still favour this one because you just feel the life of Genova here. Would definitely recommend it!
“We loved our stay in Genoa!”
The historical center of Genoa is a great place to be! This apartment was spacious and comfortable for 3 adults. Check in was easy to schedule. The owners are delightful people and made every effort to answer all of our questions. We loved the local vendors situated right below the apartment for easy access to fresh fruit, baked goods and meats. We loved being immersed in an authentic Italian neighborhood! We would rent this apartment again!!
“Pleasure staying in a very old city”
Genoa is an ancient city with a long and fascinating history, which still has a large old section dating to the Middle ages. In the summer of 2005 we had the experience of living in the center of this area when we rented the apartment at Vico della Rosa for a two-week period. The apartment is located on an upper floor in a corner building on one of the many narrow alleys/streets, referred to as vicolis, that weave a web in the old section. Right outside the door were shops selling all manner of fresh vegetables, meat, sweets, wine and of course excellent fish. Other than food vendors, there were numerous good restaurants and stores selling all manner of the essentials and the extravagances that make a complete and interesting commercial community. The apartment itself is attractively and tastefully furnished, making it a comfortable and inviting point to return to during the day for having a lunch at home or for reading and recuperating in the evening. There we found all the facilities for independent living, so my wife and I could do what we enjoy in travel: live, at least in part, in something of the manner of the natives. Markus, our landlord, was an exceedingly generous host, acquainting us with our new life in the vicolis: giving us pointers on the lay of the land, best places to shop for the necessities and the trivial and generally being a friend at hand to help us find our way and feel at home in the centro historico. The attractiveness and appeal of the apartment, its location and the attention given us by Markus all left us feeling at the completion of our Genoese experience that we would have to return for more. And we did, the next year.
I lived in this top apartment in the very centre of old Genoa for 4 weeks. The apartment had all necessary facilities, everything worked smoothly and the contact with the owner was more than perfect. All you want and need is close at hand.Top rating!
Response from the owner Thank you, for your appreciation, very significant as you have been living in the apartment and the quarter for a long time, having the possibility to get in contact with the concrete life in the old town. Hope to see you again in Genova.
