“Great getaway”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2016

Loved staying in this cozy cottage among the trees. Completely peaceful and centrally located for wine tasting in Healdsburg, Russian River, etc.

“Better Than Expected!”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2015

My husband and I wanted to get sometime away from the kids, work and the daily routine. After some search with nothing to be found since it was short notice... We found Storybook Cottage, which looked great!! It was everthing it said it was going to be. It was SO easy to book!! Julz was great at describing everything that this place offered. The directions that they provided are the ones to go by, MapQuest and Google will send you to NOWHERE. It was clean, smelled nice, looked nice, private, and was just what we wanted. We already reserved it for my birthday in a few months!! Russian River Getaways is AWESOME and a great choice for a nice vacation! Thanks Julz!!

“Happy by the river.....”

Loved our one night at the cottage. VERY nicely appointed kitchen with plenty of cutlery, pans and serving items. So many rentals barely give you the minimum. If we were there more then one night that would have been very important. And the walk to the river was very short and scenic, and well worth the trip! We played in the water with our dogs and hung out out in the afternoon sun. Stunning location. The fact it's a private beach is really great, especially I'm sure on busy weekends. Thanks!

“Storybook”

Comfortable, well-equipped cottage...took some finding in the dark with lots of steps up but once we got there, it all worked out fine.

“Smelly and flea-ridden”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2014

This place is cute and on first appearance, clean. However, the odor that permeates the house is heinous-it smells like a wet, dirty dog rolled around in ancient cigarette butts. It never goes away-even with all the windows open and a fan, which I brought from home, going full blast. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. The sofa? The chair? The one rug? I didn't get any sleep because of it, which is also because the bed was incredibly old and uncomfortable. Also, my dog came home covered in fleas and the only place I took him was on a leash around the property twice. $160.00 later from the vet and that sealed my opinion of "Storybook" Cottage. Not a happy ending.

“Kinda like Glamping”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2014

Depending what you're looking for in a rental this unit is either perfect or extremely lacking. The photos probably make the house look better than it really is. There's significant paint bubbling on the vaulted ceiling which looks like moisture damage. Not what I'd like to see after spending the money we did to rent this place. The "master bedroom" is really a converted living room. There is no door to the master; it's a plastic accordion door. The kitchen is right next to the "master" and there are two large pass throughs between the kitchen and master (this is because the master was really the living room). There is a washer and dryer, but they are in the master bedroom and there is a STRONG mold smell emanating from the washer which was a little frustrating to deal with. We ran the washer several times, but the mold/moisture smell persisted. Not fun to smell when trying to sleep. The kitchen is fine, but the stove is electric. No dishwasher. Sufficient plates and silverware. The living room (apart from the bubbling ceiling) is sufficient for a small family to relax comfortably. I would not recommend this unit for 2 couples as you would be on top of each other. The sofa and chair were comfortable. The tv in the living room isn't 32" as advertised... Not a big deal though. Another huge point is that this unit doesn't have a table of any sort inside (not in the kitchen or living room). There's a picnic table outside. So.... You have to eat outside or on the coffee table. The bathroom isn't attached to a bedroom, this another reason renting to two couples wouldn't be ideal. The shower in the bathroom is tiny and dark. The shower head faces directly out of the shower (bizarre) so if you turn the shower on the water will shoot out into the bathroom; so be careful! The outside space is big. No grass but the deck is great. There's good seating outside and plenty of room. The hot tub was big and well maintained. I would say if you're gonna spend all of your time outside and you like "Glamping" then this unit would be fine. There's no way I'd recommend this unit if you were going to stay here and stay inside. There's just no room and the house is not very well cared for. The location of the house is awesome. You're in the middle of everything. So whether you want to go wine tasting or hang out in the river, Guernville, Santa Rosa or Healdsburg; you're very close! Personally, we won't be staying here again.... It's just not worth the rental fee.

“A great intro to the Russian river Valley.”

We expected to be using the cottage as a hub for a three day wine-tasting adventure. Once we understood the proximity to the coast, and particularly the Jenner area, we spent much of the latter two days at the coast. We also had the advantage of unseasonably warm and sunny weather in January! The house is everything it was represented to be and quite enchanting. Houses in the area are cabin and retreat-like, so it's has a sense of summer camp. We found everything we needed and enjoyed the hot tub all three days we were there. The cottage was spotless upon our arrival and as a Flipkey owner who rents a house in Vermont, I understand how challenging that can be to manage. Highly recommend this rental-it must be fantastic in the warm weather!

“Very relaxing week”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2013

The house was clean and located close to the beach- a short five minute walk. It was plenty of room for my friend and me and our two kids. The hot tub was great and the yard is very nice with plenty of room for the kids to play. The kitchen had everything we needed in terms of pots, pans and dishes. There are no staples in the kitchen at all- oil, salt, sugar... I would have liked a place to eat inside, since it was cold the week we were there. Also, the couches were very old and uncomfortable but we were hardly inside. Over all, a very nice place.

Response from the manager We're glad you enjoyed the property at Storybook. Thanks for the review, and we do hope you'll come back. -Rachel

“Adorable, quirky, conveniently located cottage”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2013

Getting in was easy and convenient. Instructions were clear. The beds were very comfy. We took advantage of the outdoor space to relax, cook our meals on the bbq grill and dine al fresco on the deck. Easy walk to the residential access to the small beach by the river. One of the bedrooms was less private as it had the passthrough window from the kitchen and a sliding door. Wished the kitchen had a few more utensils, which we listed in a note left on the coffee table. All in all we had a lovely stay.

Response from the manager Storybook is one of our newer additions and we appreciate any suggestions you may have. The location is ideal, close to everything yet so far away when you're there enjoying the outdoors. Russian River Getaways

“Interesting”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2013

Fyi there is no air conditioning, it was very hot and no fans either. I am about 120 pounds, and 5'6" and the shower was small for me, barely enough room to turn around. Also, if you don't have a four wheel drive, good luck with the drive way! Completely not what I expected for the cost.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review. We have installed fans at Storybook. Some of our cabins are rustic in nature and the reason so many people come here. We hope you try us again and please be specific as to what you need so we can guide you to the perfect home for your stay. Russian River Getaways
