“Relaxing and very beautiful”

Reviewed 20 May 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at Cliffside Cottage and would highly recommend it to everyone. It was a special treat for our 50th wedding anniversary. The views, flowers, birds are beautiful and the cottage is very conveniently situated for Hilo and also the volcano. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub at night trying to count the millions of stars. The cottage was spotlessly clean, but the only thing we really missed was a kettle for making our morning tea. It was a wonderful holiday and we would like to return in the not too distant future.

“Hawaiian Shangri-La”

Reviewed 19 May 2013

Words are inadequate to describe this beautiful and spiritual place overlooking Onomea Bay and sitting atop the Hawaiian Botanic Gardens. It is absolutely stunning and fulfilling in every way. The cottage was pristine when we arrived and it was obvious that every detail had been attended to with care. If you have not been to Onomea Bay, you will not be disappointed. This is my favorite location throughout the Hawaiian Islands. The cottage provides for every need and the lanai and hot tub over-looking the bay are such a pleasurable experience! The outdoor shower, rather than being a detriment, was actually a decided plus as the view from the shower is also incredible. I recommend the 4-mile Scenic Drive which leads to Onomea Bay and the Botanic Garden walking tour which is well worth the time and energy. Also suggest akaka Falls, Umauma Falls, Rainbow Falls in the morning and driving the Old Mamakaloa Highway in several places to see old Hawaiian lush tropical scenery. The Farmer's Market is fully open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but some vendors are open on other days, as well. A day trip to Kona will provide many opportunities for shopping and there are several good restaurants in the area. I prefer the north Hawaiian Beltline road rather than Saddle Road, but then I am prone to motion sickness and Saddle Road is very winding. We saw the little wild pigs and many beautiful birds. We also enjoyed the sound of the Coqui frogs. Unfortunately, the whales did not honor us with a visit. Sunrises were worth arising early for and many rainbows were seen. Look away from the sun to see the rainbows, as they will form and disappear quite quickly. I recommend Hilo Bay Cafe, Seaside Restaurant, Ken's Pancake House, What's Shakin' (near Botanic Gardens great smoothies and sandwiches/wraps) and the Blackrock Cafe in Pahloa(prime rib special on Thursday p.m.) We stayed 9 days and so hated to leave. So hope that we will be able to return someday. Enjoy!!!

“Absolutely Beautiful”

This is a must stay. Not only was the property priced very well, the location was perfect for exploring the eastern side of the Big Island. I would stay here again in a heart beat and would not second guess recommending this property to friends.

“Heaven on a Cliff”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2012

We cannot say enough good things about our recent stay at the Onomea Cliffside Cottage. The house and grounds are even more beautiful than the photos - hard to believe. We enjoyed watching the whales breach in the ocean from the wonderful lanai and hot tub. Loved the outdoor shower and staring at the sky full of stars. Simply can't wait to return.

“Stay here if you want privacy and want to appreciate beauty!”

Onemea Bay Cliffside Cottage is one of the most delightful, private, and lovely places we have ever stayed while vacationing. Words and pictures can't do it justice.

“very satisfied”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2012

We had a very nice vacation in the cottage only one thing on the minus side was the distance to a nice beach, but the cottage compensated that.

“Best place we've ever stayed”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2012

My wife and I rented the cottage as part of a 20th anniversary trip. The place was beautiful! We never wanted to leave and absolutely want to go back. It is the nicest place we've ever stayed without a doubt. It sets a high bar that I don't think any other place will ever top.

“Exceeded expectations in every way”

Reviewed 23 Jan 2012

The pictures and description do not do this property justice, nice as they are. It's much larger than you might think, and the privacy and peace are unparalleled. Truly the most beautiful place I've ever stayed, and every amenity was thought of. From the deck, we saw humpback whales breaching, spinner dolphins chasing fish, three Hawaiian hawks circling right overhead, cattle egret flocks, akepa finches eating berries - just a truly incredible experience. Serenity, quiet, and incredible vistas along with unbelievable comfort. The sunrises and moonrises right from the bed - indescribably beautiful. A million stars overhead from the hot tub, and a lightning storm far out to sea...I want to go back right now.

“A romantic hideaway in a stunning setting”

Reviewed 13 Jan 2012

We loved everything about our stay at Onomea Bay Cliffside Cottage. Perfectly situated, impeccably clean, beautifully furnished, it was a dream come true from the first moment on. Best vacation rental ever. We are already talking about a return visit.

“More amazing than the photos!”

Reviewed 19 Dec 2011

I'm still not sure how I came upon this place in my search for lodging but this was a welcomed retreat after the hectic pace my husband and I were experiencing at work. We arrived at the cottage at night so it was intimidating at first because it is pitch black beyond the cottage- you can't even see the ocean it's so dark. But in the morning, I awoke to the most amazing sunrise right there on the lanai. And it's secluded enough from distant neighbors that you really have legitimate privacy. The cottage is immaculately kept and the outdoor shower, while intimidating at first (being from the Midwest), was an absolute favorite. If I ever return to the Big Island, THIS is where I'll be staying. The only downside was that we were only there for 2 nights. Otherwise FABULOUS!
