“Unique house away from the crowds”

Reviewed 24 Nov 2017

We love the Pahoa area and Hale Balleja was a wonderful respite near the end of the road, where the volcano has been creating new land. This is an interesting house, once you discover all the nuances of what makes it function. Screens, doors, showers, lights and the age-old question, will there be salt and pepper? Yes, we had salt and pepper. We loved the rains here, where we could watch thunder and lightning light up the sky in our lovely artistic home, staying dry and comfy. The nights are quiet and peaceful, cool while we were there, but daytime was perfect. So many things to explore and see, just go out and do it! Hilo is close by, and the sweet little town of Pahoa even closer. From the wonderful markets to the first class restaurants, exploring, hikes, swimming, snorkeling, all you want to do is close by. . . but even if it means just relaxing and staying home that is fun too. No TV, no music, so if you need "tunes" bring your own setup. We always bring too much food, but the wonderful cleanup crew is grateful for anything you might want to leave behind. We found everyone to be very friendly.
