“Great accommodation - Poor Service”

Reviewed 4 Mar 2013

The cottage met all or needs and expectations in respect to comfort and location. However Paradise Retreats certainly needs to lift its game. Their contract is onerous and one sided. The property had not been cleaned between the departure of the last guests and our arrival. Given this very disappointing situation, we would at least have expected a personal visit by a representative of Paradise Retreats expressing their concern. It is not an acceptable remedy to try to "buy" their way out of what was seen by us as a disaster. It was not good enough to be told to go for a drive or sit out on the deck (in the cold and darkness!) whilst this cleaning oversight was put to right. The method of payment of bond and rent and return of the bond, is well outdated, particularly for an overseas visitor i.e. no Mastercard or Visa.

Response from the manager Thank you for your invaluable feedback regarding Seashell Cottage. We are glad you liked the home's location and comfort. It is unfortunate you had a negative experience upon your arrival. Our staff diligently work to make sure our homes are clean and available for your check in time of 3:00. We apologize for any inconvenience. Our guest relations staff strive to be attentive and respectful to our guests and we will take your feedback into consideration as we to continue to strive for excellent guest support.

“Relaxed and refreshing”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2012

This is a lovely place to get away for a few days. Nice location and a great kitchen so you can either dine out or eat at home. The service was friendly and it really felt like a home. Internet was flawless and an upgrade to the cable would add to the stay. I would highly recommend this for your Montecito stay.

“We wanted to stay forever!”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2012

This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. The neighborhood is peaceful and everyone is so friendly. We seriously want to move to this neighborhood. We loved walking to Hammond's Beach and also relaxing on the front porch. Our son (18 months) loved the cottage and seeing the choo choo train go by. If you are traveling with younger kids I suggest bringing a sound machine or some way to play a littel white noise to block out the sound of the train. The train whistle can be a little loud and interfere with naps and nighttime sleep. We played a track of falling rain on our ipod on repeat and that helped our little one sleep through the night. We are visiting Santa Barbara again later this year and we hoped to stay here again but it was already booked!!! We always rent homes/cottages when we travel and this one is one of our favorites.

“Just a few negatives here”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2012

Overall, our experience was good. The location of the rental house and neighborhood was fine. Our only negative complaints would have to be the unsecured internet network and the reluctance of the owner to install the new, secure internet network. (He actually asked us to do it!?) I would never again trust an unsecured network! My computer sustained a nasty virus, rendering it non functioning for 3 weeks. I have no proof it was from this unsecured network, but I've never had a problem before or since our stay. Also, the TV reception left alot to be desired. Even though we were not there to watch tv, in the evenings, it would have been more enjoyable to actually have a clear picture. The last thing was the furnace. It seemed unsafe (I would never bring a small child to this rental since the gas flame is in plain site and not very well covered), noisy and inefficient. We enjoyed our stay at this rental, but I'm not sure we would choose this property a 2nd time. Thank you!

“Just what we needed”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2012

The home was nice and cozy. It has a "vacation" like feel to it. Would be nice if it was closer to the beach but the walk was not an issue even with two small toddlers. A couple slight issues; spiders in and around the yard and the overgrown shrub over the entrance. Although it looked nice, we had to duck down upon entering and exiting. Staff and rental company was very helpful and courteous. My family will rent with this company again.

“This was just what the doctor orderd”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2011

Can't say enough about my week in Montecito at the sea shell cottage! The moment I opened the door I knew it was going to be a great week. The house is cozy with all the amenities one needs and has a wonderful patio out back overlooking a dry river bed. Very tranquil. A short walk to the beach and the town of Montecito has so much to offer as far as shopping and dining. Thank you.

“Quaint cottage in perfect location”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2011

Seashell Cottage is a comfortable and beautiful cottage with lots of character. It is also very clean and well equipped (including beach chairs and surf board). The location is perfect; just a 5 minute walk to the beach and a 10 minute drive to Santa Barbara. All in all a very relaxing and tranquil place to stay to explore the surrounding area - definitely thought we'd chosen well!

“Too small”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2011

This home was clean and in nice condition however it was too small for a family of four. Small kitchen, bathroom, dining area and living room. The TV was subpar as were the shower facilites (ran out of hot water almost every day & water came out of shower like a hose). Could not take a bath as the plug did not work in the tub. Master bedroom was nice but the kids were crowded a bit in their bedroom. I think it would have been fine for just my wife and I but with the kids we all felt crowded. You can hear the neighbors conversation as if they are in your unit (which I assume means they can hear us also).

Response from the manager Thank you for the invaluable feedback. We strive to have all our homes meet our guests expectations though improvement can always be addressed. We have contacted the owner about your concerns and thank you for your input. With the other positive feedback on this home and others, we hope you will once again choose to stay at a Paradise Retreats home.

“An excellent location near the beach”

Reviewed 18 May 2011

Sea Shell is comfortable, light and cheerful and the kitchen is very well equipped . Parking could be a problem in high season or when Sea Side is rented because there is very little street parking. I had trouble with the phone and the TV, otherwise I would like to rent it again because I enjoyed it very much.

“Great location”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2010

The location and beach were fantastic. A little smaller than we expected and the train comes by early. Very cozy for a couple but with small children we needed more space. Overall - good value for location and management was helpful with some minor issues we experienced.
