- Very Good
Very nice and comfortable. Great location on the beach and house was well layed out. Could have used a few more amenietes such as TP and Paper towels.
“Very enjoyable with opportunties for improvement”
nice house well laid out and good amenities. media room and game room were plusses. Maintenance coudl be improved. game room lights did not work; ants in kitchen. Kitchen pots, pans etc seemed very poor quality for level of rental expense. Also at this level of rental I have never had to make my own bed upon arrival before!! Finally, it would have been nice to receive usable instructions on the media systems.
The house was beautiful. We loved the island and had a great time. I got engaged on Bear Island! The only problem we had was with the ants.
What a perfect house! Location was wonderful, theater room and game room provided the kids with plenty of entertainment. The entire family/ friend group loved the house and we will definately book again next year!
“a family retreat”
enjoyed the house and theater. the pool did need to be cleaned out and found a live roach in one of the waste cans. the beach and shelling was one of the best
“Great bargain for luxury”
I really enjoyed the home and only wish I could afford to stay longer. The theater was awesome for the rainy day, the game room provided a diversion, and the oceans views sold us on the magic.
“Beautiful home with some draw-backs”
Beautiful home. Great pool. Very homey and comfortable for 10. Unfortunately, the beds were advertised as Queens but were all doubles. THe sheets did not fit nor the people. The master bedroom/bath was beautiful but the shower would never produce really warm water. Overall we would rent this home again but with different room assignments. Shorewood folks are always very friendly!
“Magical Dreams: Not So Magical”
Magical Dreams looks fantastic in the pictures. On the plus side, there is lots of room so the house can comfortably fit an extended family. On the minus side are a lot of little issues. Any one wouldn't make a difference, but the sheer accumulation of so many small things makes for a less-than-pleasant rental, especially annoying when one rents in the upper price brackets. Our visit didn't start well, unfortunately setting the tone. Linens which should have been there weren't -- we didn't realize this until after we'd moved in most of our stuff (note to self -- check this first!). So, no towels or sheets the first night. Not exactly a comfortable situation. We'd arrived a day early, and were allowed to be in the house since it hadn't been rented the week prior to our visit -- a convenience to us, but since the charge was a pro-rated amount of the full rental, we would've been MUCH better off to get a hotel room for the night (and we DID tell Shorewood we could do this if the house were not ready -- we had NO indication is wasn't ready for us). When the linens did arrive, several of the packages were mismarked and we had to play "guess-which-bed-this-one-fits" -- although in the end we did have sufficient. The linens from the prior rental stayed by the door for several days until we called to ask if anyone was ever going to pick them up. The kitchen is extremely poorly arranged; a very awkward working space - we feel sure that the cupboards were arranged by someone who never uses a kitchen! A door to the deck didn't work at all; several doors didn't latch properly; windows had no screens (bugs in the house -- maybe no one in NC opens windows when it's nice out?); a lamp in one bedroom had a short, the drawers in a dresser in another didn't work; water in the master suite never got above lukewarm, and the jacuzzi was only good if you like it cold. There was more... too many. This won't be our choice next year.
“Don't judge a book by its cover”
I can't say enough about the look or layout of the house, exceptional. Loved the theatre room, loved the decks, the main sitting room, the outdoor sound system, of course, the beach and the views were fantastic. However, for as nice as the house appeared on the outside, the bedcovers looked like they came out of an old Motel 6. My son, wanted my wife to bring his covers from home. (She arrived a day later). Even the sheets left a little to be desired, seemed old and worn. As we were there for the Thanksgiving holidays and cooking was essential, we were quite disappointed in the quality of utensils, cookware and appliances. We also felt like the "office" room, was a waste of space. I thought it would have been better had that room had a sofa, easy chair, the book shelves and maybe a TV. It would have become a good little get away. The other family members were a bit disppointed that their rooms didn't have a TV set in their rooms. That was a first for me. Overall, we had a great time with family and friends, were well rested from our time there and thankful for the opportunity to stay a week in Emerald Isle.
House came just as advertised. Was very clean and well kept. The location was ideal with a walk out right to the beach. Amenities were fabulous, including the pool, home theater, and living areas. Highly, highly recommend staying in this house!
