“Did not meet expectations”
After much research here on TA as well as other resources Views on Venice was highly recommended as a reliable agency in Venice and the properties seemed very nice. Some of our first choices were gone as we were looking for just 4 nights in October...a busy time in Venice. We found Ca Canaletto which was on a small canal on Rio delle Romite...in Dorsoduro. This area is charming with lots of apartments and campos with all that is essential for apartment living. Lots of students as this is near to University but fairly quiet. Advance booking was done via email and automated systems. Emails at first were answered promptly but after the booking was completed subsequent emails went unanswered for the most part. Ultimately upon arrival I was told they have issues with Comcast emails sent. I don't doubt this is true but when trying to get info for final booking etc. this was extremely frustrating and I even made a call to ask someone to call me from the office but they never did. I finally got a response almost a week later from Annalisa (guess the Comcast issue was resolved?) and she first sent an incorrect link for payment to me then finally a correct one that was completed. Really no further communication other than Martha would meet us at the vaporetto stop. She was there right on time and they kindly let us leave our bags at the apartment early in the day so we could continue to Burano. Martha was helpful...did apologize for the lack of communication and helped with some information about the apartment and our travel to Burano. The apartment is pretty much as pictured on the Views on Venice website...functionally decorated and well equipped. The best part is when you look out and see that postcard photo of the canal and ancient buildings with an older woman walking her dog. Just beautiful. Only two apartments in the building this one and the one upstairs Ca dell"Artista. The upstairs apartment would have been my first choice as it is top floor with outdoor spaces...the second floor you do hear the movements upstairs clearly. ..it is a more luxurious apartment and probably worth the extra money. We left and returned much later in the day to a nice cleaned apartment...or so we thought. Later in the evening my daughter went into the smaller second bathroom which had mold apparent in many spots including the shower stall and sink areas...that together with a "vile" smell was shocking. We shut the door and made the decision to just use the other bathroom and advise Views on Venice upon our departure meeting with Martha. Really not interested during such a short stay in Venice in dealing with people coming in and out. From past experience mold issues are not that quick to remediate. Next day I got a call from the office checking to see how things were...decided since they called to tell them. They offered to send someone over but for reasons mentioned before I told them our plan...just shut the door and forget it. Had it been our only bathroom I would have asked to move apartments...it was that bad. Anyway our Venice sightseeing continued. Next day I received another call saying they had spoken with the owner [--] and he authorized a 200Euro refund but it could not be credited to my Visa (the card all payments were charged to). I thought that odd and they said to send them my "bank details" when I got home. This was just the first step of VOV asking me to do the work to get back this refund for my situation. We left it at that...at check out lets just say Martha was shocked too and no one can figure out how a bathroom got that bad and previous tenants did not report it and cleaning crew did not see??? Upon returning home I made some calls to my bank and their first reaction was the same as mine...not sending private bank detais...but after some calls they offered me an account number whereby they would wait for the transfer and they move it to my account...this would be the most secure. I immediately contacted Annalisa with a copy to [--] with this info and asked them to email when they got it. Annalisa confirmed and assumed the process was moving. A week later with no refund received I once again contacted them and was told by Annalisa and [--] I never sent the details....I replied with copies of the fax sent and email acknowledgment of receipt by Annalisa. [--] said he would check it out and they found it and finally after over a week transferred the money...I received it days later. I spoke with Visa and they wanted me to file a dispute as VOV should have just credited my account. I bring this up for two reasons...first doing business with them was not pleasant and I will say [--] has an attitude and second if you book and need for any reason to get a refund this is an example of what it took for me. Most companies would have given no less than one night refund...this refund was far less than that and [--] would not consider more. When I mentioned TA he accused me of using reviews on TA as a bargaining tool. Well I never went on line with what happened until this review...but it is an honest review and written long after I settled with VOV. The apartment was fine...communication with VOV was poor with the exception of Martha. What really separates a company from the rest is customer service and in [--]'s own words "this matter has been poorly managed from our side". I would have given the apartment a much better total rating were it not for VOV customer service and the mold. We loved Venice but would probably stay in a nice hotel for our next visit. VOV properties are not cheap and one has every reason to expect high levels of service and apartment standards...these expectations were clearly not met.
Response from the manager Dear gene Thank you for the review of your recent 4 night stay at Ca’ Canaletto (a very popular apartment garnering 30 great reviews with hopefully many more to come!), and to TA for allowing me the opportunity to respond with details of the situation as it was experienced from VOV’s side. While you write that upon research VOV came ‘highly recommended as a reliable agency in Venice and the properties seemed very nice’ and acknowledge a number of positive aspects to your stay at Ca’ Canaletto, it was indeed unfortunate that you experienced issues with Comcast/communication prior to your arrival and a mold problem in the apartment’s smaller second bathroom which has now been resolved and for which I sincerely apologise. However, I do think it important to point out for the sake of clarity that the decision was made by yourself not to report this mold problem to us when you discovered it on settling into the apartment and that time was spent during your stay discussing the problem on the Venice TripAdvisor forum in the following thread, the content of which has now been removed at your request. Strangely, this does not appear to correspond with your comment: ‘Well I never went on line with what happened until this review...’ http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g187870-i57-k7900881-o10-What_would_you_do_mold-Venice_Veneto.html Before all comments disappeared, I do recall individuals in the above thread suggesting that you contact the agency (us) to give them (us) a chance to remedy the situation. While not wishing to make excuses for the mold in any way as it certainly shouldn’t have been present in the bathroom, I do think that this would have been the best and most reasonable course of action to take particularly as we provide all our guests with a 24 hr emergency telephone number so that they are able to contact us around the clock with any issues they may have, no matter how big or small, so that we can help. However, as mentioned in the apartment review, you decided not to do this. As far as I remember, the issue of refunds may also have been discussed in the thread. As you mention, a member of our team made a courtesy telephone call to you the following day to check if all was well, and when you then mentioned the mold issue, offered to send a member of our services staff around immediately to rectify the problem (something which could have been resolved using specialist equipment with minimal disruption to your stay). However, this offer was declined and, as you say in your review, ‘I told them our plan...just shut the door and forget it.’ I must say that had you brought the matter to our attention straight away rather than make the decision to stay silent, and allowed us to rectify the matter rather than decline the offer when it was made, then I’m sure things could have turned out differently. Despite this, the next day a refund of €200 was offered as a gesture of goodwill which we hoped would go some way towards making up for the inconvenience you were caused, even though we were not given the opportunity to put things right. Unfortunately your comment ‘Most companies would have given no less than one night refund...this refund was far less than that and [--] would not consider more’ indicates that, sadly, this gesture didn’t achieve its aim. With regards to its payment and as we explained in our email, we have no access to credit card details and this is why we can only use bank wire transfer for refunds. Lastly, I’m sorry you think I have ‘an attitude’. While this is regrettable and certainly not my intention, I do think that there are always two sides to a story, and hope your next visit is as enjoyable as can be. “Nice and quiet apartment in Venice”
We were in Venice for 4 days in November, 2 parents and 2 teenagers. The apartment was perfect for our purpose with 2 separate rooms (1 double bed, 2 single beds), a well appointed kitchen and a large living room overlooking a small canal. It is on the second floor via a steep, but straight stair. It is well located with the vaporetto stop and a supermarket 5 min walk away (in different directions). We enjoyed our stay and View on Venice provided good support with taxi bookings to and from the airport.
“Lovely apartment, great service”
This is a very comfortable apartment with the best equipped kitchen of any holiday home I have ever rented. The location is good - easily accessible but also quiet. The rep was waiting as arranged when we got off the boat from the airport and arrived promptly when we were leaving. Highly recommended apartment and agent.
“Great Location, Spacious apartment”
This apartment is only 15 minutes walk away from either St. Marks or Rialto, but is away from the really busy tourist areas. It has views over a pretty canal and there is no noise to keep you awake at night. Supermarket is only five minutes away in Campo san Margherita where there are also bars and restaurants. The apartment itself was clean and well equipped. Wi-Fi worked fine. We have no negatives to say about it! The views on Venice representative met us at the water bus stop (run by a company called alilaguna, 25 euros return trip per person from airport), as previously arranged by e-mail and showed us to the apartment and explained everything - most helpful. We had a fantastic 5 night stay.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience and compared to other apartments I rented in Italy, Ca' Canaletto exceeded my expectations. This roomy and practical the apartment provided warm (we were travelling in winter) and comfortable surroundings including windows onto the peaceful canal which we opened each morning just to drink in the atmosphere. I would stay again in a flash
We loved Venice and I think part of our enjoyment was having an apartment that made us feel at home. Ca'Canaletto had 2 bedrooms for my family of 4 and a great big table in the formal dining/lounge area. We used it as our end of day map and review headquarters planning our next day of fun in Venice. The kitchen was modern and was fitted with everything you need right up to Illy coffee and olive oil and balsamic, we had a great cooked breakfast ecah morning before we headed off. Supermarkets are close by and so are all the restaurants. it is a bit away from the crowds and has it's own canal. I have already recommended it to friends of ours. I will definitely book this apartment on our next visit to Venice.Btw Rachael was great meeting us at the vaporetto and going through everything we needed to know.

“Great location, comfortable and convenient.”
We really enjoyed our stay at Ca' Canaletto. We were welcomed at the waterbus stop and got a thorough explanation of everything at the apartment. Rachele was wonderful about tracking down our lost luggage. We really loved the location on beautiful Rio de Romite, so close to lovely Campo San Barnaba - best location in Venice. We love to walk and walked all over the city. The apartment was very comfortable for 4 of us, with a well equipped kitchen we used for a breakfast party that grew to 10 people very comfortably. It was particularly convenient to have the washing machine and the wifi access.

“Brilliant short stay in Venice with seven year old daughter.”
Excellent service and beautiful apartment. It has two large bedrooms and large kitchen and bathroom but they are dwarfed by the dining area and separate large lounge area. If you wished to have a dinner party for eight or more people it would not seem crowded. The location is excellent with short walk to major Museums and Churches and either Zattere or Ca'Rezzonico for the water bus. Supermarket is easy walking distance. Good restuarants nearby. We wish we could have stayed much longer. The entrance to the building has not yet been fully restored but even that is charming in its own way. Ann and Peter Wood Manchester UK

“Value added to a Venice Vacation”
ViewsonVenice added greatly to our stay in Venice. They made our entry, time there, and exit from the City as smooth as possible. Attention was paid to detail in the apartment and in providing us with service and information while we were there. Response to questions and concerns were full and prompt. The apartment is in just the right place for people who want to be in the middle of Venice without being in the midst of tourists. A great apartment in a great neighborhood full of cafes and restaurants and small shops and a vaporetto ride away from anything. Way beyond our expectations.
