“Cosy cottage in centre of Kendal”

Reviewed 5 Dec 2013

Comfortable and cosy cottage in the centre of Kendal. The owner left a selection of teas, ground coffee and biscuits which was a lovely personal touch. The decor is fabulous and she leaves a very good information pack for your perusal. The kitchen is well supplied - we feel it needs a potato masher though. The town centre is a walk through the passageway and turn left - Booths and M&S; are 5 minutes walk away in that direction. Fish & chip shops, restaurants and pubs are also close by. We'll be staying there again for the Kendal Mountain Festival 2014 as it was well placed for the Brewery arts Centre. Not too badly placed for hill walking and the porch is equipped to hang wet weather gear!

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of Hummingbird Cottage We are pleased to hear that you found this property to be comfortable and cosy and we will look forward to welcoming you back in 2014 for the Kendal Mountain Festival. Kind Regards Lakes Cottage Holidays Tel 017687 74060

“Cosy cottage in centre of Kendal”

We stayed in this cottage whilst walking and attending the Kendal Mountain Festival. It was perfectly situated for festival being so close to the town centre. A bit of a drive for the best hill walks but a lovely cottage to come back to in the evening. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable. The owner leaves a selection of teas, ground coffee and some lovely biscuits which is a great personal touch. She also has a very good information pack that you need to read. Comfy beds, lovely decor and well stocked in the kitchen with regards to utensils (except a potato masher which isn't unusual). There is an M&S; and Booths for food in the town centre - about a 5 minute walk. Pubs, restaurants and fish & chip shops are close by. I hope to stay in the cottage again next year for the Kendal Mountain Festival 2014!

“Really lovely!”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2013

This place is a little nugget of gold hidden away behind the main street of Kendal (with useful gate access to the main street using the key provided.) It was very clean, well equipped and perfect for our two little ones with a brand new travel cot provided (which, we noticed had a bassinette incorporated for really tiny babies). The little added touches for the children were particularly welcomed and we found the direction on the wall opposite the toilet amusing! Delightfully decorated and surprisingly spacious inside (judging by the outside!)with comfy beds and pillows - the only complaint I would have is that we arrived in the dark and the directions weren't the clearest to follow (after the roundabout it should say, don't follow the road around to the right but go straight ahead and then follow it round to the right with the arch almost immediately on your left into the courtyard) or something to that effect.) Also, something for consideration by the owner for their younger customers would be a stair gate at the top of the stairs (the bottom of the stairs has a door to stop them escaping upstairs). Otherwise - a superb base for access to the Lake District - thank you.

“Pretty & Cosy - but a few issues.”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2013

We recently booked Hummingbird Cottage, last minute, for a half term break with our 2 daughters. I thought the cottage looked very pretty, and quite tastefully decorated, and the rate was reasonable. Another big plus was reading the cottage had recently installed WiFi - as my husband needed to work while we were there. When we arrived, I must admit I was slightly disappointed, in that cottage looked better in the photos on-line, than it did in reality. Lots of little things had been left unfinished, and several areas looked a bit tatty. The kitchen was a bit of a mis-match of items - and there just wasn't enough comfortable seating in the lounge for 4 people. But it was clean, and the beds were comfy. And, there was a nice selection of books and Dvds. But...and this was a huge but...there was no WiFi. We found the BT Broadband Hub, still in its box. But, no WiFi connection. Nothing. My husband had to use his mobile as a WiFi hot-spot, and link his lap-top through that. He wasn't happy, especially as he could only get mobile reception in our daughter's bedroom! Also, it clearly stated in the letter from Cottage Holidays, that there was parking in very close proximity to the cottage, just a few yards away in the adjacent yard. So, we parked there. Only to read in the Information Folder, once inside the cottage, that we couldn't park in this yard, and would have to park on nearby streets. And, yes, we got a very angry letter, stuck on our windscreen the next morning. Not very nice. In summation, on the negative side...I think the cottage needs to be fully, properly finished off inside. A properly fitted kitchen, a decent cooker, an extra comfy chair in the lounge, and a shower that actually has some pressure (not just a meek dribble). And, be more clear about the parking restrictions. On the plus side, it is centrally located in Kendal, but still very quiet. It is quite pretty, with nice soft furnishings and thoughtful extras. But,
