“Anne-marie's review of Chateau Cherbourg”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2011

Fantastic. Very nice property. The grounds, the pool, and the orchard with apples and figs. A very nice lady came in 3 hours each day to clean up. The kitchen itself was great, but there were relatively few pots and pans. Great location from which to visit Normandie.

Incredible. Beautiful chateau, all the modern ameninities, great water pressure, en-suite bathrooms, etc, in a historical setting. The grounds were spectacular, and the staff was incredibly helpful. There was no one central gathering place in the house--the kitchen was too small to accommodate the whole group. Overall, though, this was a very small concern. The history of the D-Day landing beaches. It was perfectly centrally located. The bucolic nature of the area was also very serene.

It was fabulous! There were enough bedrooms - all of which have en suite bathrooms so that everyone had privacy. Early risers did not disturb those who slept in. The chateau itself is lovely and evocative of the end of WWII. The ambiance. It was quiet and peaceful, yet close to town. Francoise, the housekeeper is a gem. She comes in unobtrusively and is so gracious! Can't think of a thing. The weather was cooler than we expected, so the pool was not an option. The WWII beaches and Mont St. Michel were even better excursions than anticipated. We also really enjoyed the town of Valognes. We bought groceries, had our favorite boulangeries, and found great sales.

Magic. I can't think of a more relaxing and peaceful setting. The chateau and grounds were spectacular. A perfect mix and balance between luxurious living conditions and French country charm. If there is a negative I could mention, it would be that the kitchen is perhaps a bit undersized and under equipped to support a large group. Nothing very serious, just something I noticed. The Norman countryside is absolutely beautiful. The area around the chateau is straight from a story book complete with rolling hills, hedgerows and grazing cattle with the local population living life at a pace I could definitely get used to.

My wife and I and all our guests had a wonderful time. The house is wonderful The refrigerator didn't work. The cost of heating was an extra 500 euros per week. Interesting history.

Pictures of the chateau do not do the location justice. It is far more elegant and charming and the property is stunning. Overall ambiance. Nothing.

It was superb. We loved the bikes they supplied for bike riding. The chateaux itself was beautiful and the grounds were lovely for strolling or playing games. The common living spaces were not that comfy for sitting around as a whole family... The creperie down the street and the fresh market in the morning in Valogne.

The chateau, the grounds, the peace and quiet, and the remarkable history of the place. The lounge area's colour scheme and upholstery! The lushness, the small towns, the ability to bike and jog safely, and the wonderful restaurants. They are there if you look.

We take a family trip every year and this was probably the very best ever, and we have had some real winners! The caretaker and cook couldn't have been better. The dinners were wonderful. I would recommend eating every dinner in the chateau and lunch out at the nearby Creperies. They were excellent too. The kitchen was perfectly equipped and we enjoyed fixing breakfast crepes with the crepe mix we found at the nearest grocery store. All in all a memorable trip. Everything was perfect There was nothing we didn't like We went for the D-Day ceremonies and they were better then we could have hoped for.

We would go back! Very comfortable. The chef was wonderful! There was not enough toilet paper or soap products. When the owner was told, he was quite upset that they were not provided. that. Very peaceful.
