“Location isn't everything...”

Reviewed 6 Feb 2012

We were right across the street from the ski resort. That wasn't the problem. Because we were right across the street it was very noisy during the midnight hours. There was a great deal of street traffic too. We have younger kids and they were a bit scared at night due to all of the noises. If you are a heavy sleeper and are old enough not to believe in ghosts then you'll be fine. The hot water temperature was way too high, especially when there are children in the house. At times the water seemed warm and then with a slight turn of the knob it would feel like the water was boiling hot. When we had booked this place I had asked whether there was a hot tub. I was told there wasn't and there was! It would have been nice for the whole family to be prepared to use it. Washing dishes by hand wasn't too bad. Dealing without a washing machine wasn't too bad since we only stayed for 3 nights. There was plenty of room for sleeping arrangements and four energetic kids. There wasn't any snow on the ground but my kids just took our sleigh down the pine needle covered bank. They still had fun overall and that's what was important to me. We left it cleaner than when we got there.

“Please let dogs back!”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2012

This cabin is the best. I've used it many times, until they stopped accepting dogs and I hate the other cabins. Its location is right across the street to the slopes, and the renovation has been good. I love this cabin, but something happened and they won't let dogs back in. It's not my dog! Please let me bring my dog back and I'll get this cabin in a heart beat!

“a good time away”

Close to bear mountain. lots to do, and a great short get away. Would do it again, if the cabin is available.Everthing was working and clean and adequate for our trip. There was a job fair the same weekend we were there.

“Great location!!”

Right across the street from Bear Mountain Ski Resort!! Comfortable cabin with all the amenities needed for a weekend getaway! Will definitely be going back next season!

“Cabin is run down and needs new beds, couch, heater, bathroom ame”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2010

The only good thing about the cabin is the closeness to Bear mountain. We stayed here 3 years ago and nothing has been done to upgrade the facitlities. The couch and carpet was dirty and old. The beds are uncomfortable. Heater never heated up past 72 degrees and was cold most of the time plus it made a lot of nose all day/night long. The kitchen and bathrooms are run down and tired. Shower has low water pressure. We definitely will never stay here again and question Big Bear Vacation Rentals to have this cabin on its list. Literally, we were afraid to sleep under the sheets??!!

“Small cabin with nice view”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2009

There was a t.v., the kitchen was well-supplied,the restrooms were clean. I did not like the home. The carpet was old/dirty. The cabin felt small and uncomfortable. There wasn't any seating on the deck. What I like the most was the view of the mountain across the street. What I liked least was the size of the cabin. I did not feel tranquil in this place. Thank you

Response from the manager Thank you for responding to our survey. Before making your reservation you can always call our main office at 1-800-524-6600 for more information. Our guest service representatives are familiar with the houses and would be able to estimate square footage for your comfort.

“Pretty good except for...”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2009

The cabin was nice except for the no heat control on the hot tub, the very loud heater, the strip that covers the carpet into the kitchen and the one on the far right of the dining room table and the leaky refrigerator. Placing the extingusher in a better area would help too as we all ran into it more times than we can count. oh yeah, it's a cell phone dead zone for at least AT&T users. Other than that it would be the perfect cabin for winter!

“MIxed review”

Reviewed 3 Mar 2009

This place has a great location! It is right across the parking lot from Bear Mountain, so it is easy to go back and forth. The problems were that the house was not kept in good condidtion and several things did not work properly, i.e the TV, toilet. The wood burning stove was great.

“Great Location, Needs Repairs”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2009

The location was great...but the house needed some work. The water pressure was bad in every sink and the 2nd bathroom's shower faucet was broken when we arrived. They did fix it but the shower head was the size of a quarter, very dirty, and you couldn't get a full flow because the metal plug to route the water to the shower was broken. The 2nd bathroom did have a lot of counter space which is nice for toiletries and getting ready. The 1st shower was great. It looks as thought the 1st shower has recently been remodled. The sink pressure was bad. The kitchen was small but we were able to cook and there was enough supplies to make dinners and breakfasts. The items were all very old and worn, but that's to be expected in these rentals. No cookie sheets, bring your own. There were plenty of blankets and the wood stove was nice to have fires at night. We used the jacuzzi after hitting the slopes and it was visably clean, nice and hot, and very relaxing. The sitting area was big, granted it was a slotted wood table so lots of nasty stuff in the cracks, so I suggest bringing a table cloth. The place stayed warm, the heater sounded like boiling water which made for some interesting dreams for some of us. The front entrance was nice for ski supplies. Cubby holes to put hats, purses, gloves, and ski boots underneath. All in all, the location can't be beat, you can walk right across the street to Bear Mtn and back for lunch. I'd suggest it for a group of friends, but probably not for families. Or maybe families with older kids. If you don't have high expectations and are just looking for a great location to the slopes, I would recommend this place. The price is way, way too high, but that's expected on a holiday weekend right next to the resort.
