“Great Location and accomodations.”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2012

If you are looking for a place to stay that is relaxing, close to entertainment and the slopes then this is the place for you. Across the street from one of the big name ski resorts. In the winter, the backyard turns into a kid sledding paradise (adults have fun too). The location is close to retail and anything you may need at the last second. The accommodations offer just what any family needs on a vacation. Rest, room and relaxation. Bedrooms are spacious and the murphy beds bring back a little bit from the past. The kids will love them. Laundry, kitchen and bathrooms are clean and have everything you need for a home feel. Management is readily available if for any reason you have a problem. I would definately stay here again.

“Excellent location, not completely a three bedroom.”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2012

Two story. Excellent location. You can walk to the slopes. Awesome view of the slopes fm the bedroom and balcony. Third room is more like a living room with two twin beds. The master bedroom has a great view but it's colder than the other rooms and you can hear when people are taking a shower and walking above you. Very pricey for one night. Wi fii did not work.

Response from the manager Thank you for your constructive criticism. We evaluate each review and do out best to use the information that our guests give us to improve each guest’s personal experience. We look forward to helping you in the future. Your review is greatly appreciated and we hope to have the chance to serve you again.

“As close to Bear Mtn as you can get!”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2012

Great rental. We've stayed there a couple of times and I would rent again. When we've stayed in the winter it so close to Bear Mountain we walk to it (right across the street). Also, we've stayed in the fall and it's so close to off road and hiking/biking trails. You don't even need to drive! You can even walk to the Moonridge Zoo (one of my favorite zoo's by the way)! Place is always clean. I like the reverse layout where the kitchen/living room is upstairs so you can enjoy the view while cooking etc. Great place to go for a family that likes to ski, hike, mountain bike, and offroad. Can't wait to go again!

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of. It’s excellent to see you enjoyed stay at Deer's Den. Likewise it’s great to know you enjoyed your stay so much you plan to return. “What a view!”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2011

I have stayed at this cabin several times over the years. In the summer time it is extremely quiet except for the howling of the coyotes at night. In the winter, the view and proximity to Bear Mountain is unbeatable. Our kids can literally walk out the door, across the street and be on the mountain. When there is snow on the street, they can snowboard right into the lodge. Having stayed at this cabin over the years, I have seen it get better and better. New carpet has been added, the walls have been painted and both bathrooms upgraded. The driveway was recently repaved. Internet and Directv have been added as well. Don't judge a book by its cover, this cabin is quaint and comfortable inside with killer views outside. We enjoyed sitting on the deck with a glass of wine while our kids snowboarded across the street. Great place!

“Good location, bad service”

Reviewed 1 Jan 2011

The check-in process was slightly complicated using the on-line forms. The cabin was accurately represented by the pictures provided on the site. Before checking in, we asked if internet was available in the cabin, and we were told it was. Upon arriving at the cabin, we found that there was not internet. We were told that a work order was put in to come fix the internet, but we received no calls after that. When checking out, we were told that the cabin was not even internet capable. Staff at Big Bear Vacations need to communicate better. Bear Mountain was very close, and you could see the mountain from the bedroom and kitchen windows. The down side, though, was that when they blew snow, it was really loud in the cabin all night. The heaters are very noisy, and the set of Murphy beds were right next to the heater, so it was difficult to sleep next to it. The driveway is very steep, so with snow it was difficult to drive a car even with chains up the incline. We had to pay a snow plow the day we left because there was four feet of snow, and we would not be able to get out. Overall, the cabin is convenient because it is right next to Bear Mountain, but it is not worth it for relaxing in Big Bear.

“I kept wondering if someone checks on the rentals before they re”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2009

I was so excited about coming. I love Big Bear. I have used Big Bear Vacations before, so I thought I would use them again.(first time was wonderful) This time however, was not so wonderful. We checked in and were driving up to our destination, admiring the beauty, wondering what our place would be like. We were sorely, disappointed. We looked at the front of the place and it was horribly covered with weeds. The weeds hit us as we made our way up to the door. We had other guests arriving, it was our treat. We wanted to make the place look "presentable" before they arrived. We called Big Bear Vacations and asked them if they had ANY kind of gardening tools...we were willing to do the work ourselves to make the place look nice. They informed us they had no tools and to look around the house and use tools if they were there. There were none! We were not going to go buy tools, so we just took the place, "as is". In addition, the place is in need of repairs on the outside decks. We feel we spent a lot of money for this place and we left with a bad experience. It is such a shame, the home itself is very nice inside. We were wondering if anyone, checks out the homes before they rent them. The location is awesome. If the home-owners, pay for needed repairs, and gardening, it will be a wonderful place to rent. However, until someone takes the initiative to fix the place, we do NOT recommend it.

Response from the manager Big Bear Vacations response to a call about weeds should have been resolved by sending a maintenance person to arrive at the property to cut weeds for the guest. Big Bear Vacations does its best to assure the quality of homes before guest arrivals, however, if a guest is unsatisfied with accomodations we encourage them to contact our office so that we have the opportunity to resolve the issues.

“Walking Distance From Bear Mountain”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2009

Very close to the ski resort, literally walking distance. Pavement is required at the driveway otherwise the carpets in the house will not last for long not to mention you will mess up your car with dirt!!!! Difficult check in / check out times. More flexibility is required.

“Premier winter rental”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2008

This was our first rental in big bear, besides a hotel so we didn't know what to expect. My first impression was that it could use some renovating, especially the deck areas as both upstairs and downstairs decks seemed a bit unstable. It does have a great view of the ski resort, that's why i would recommend this property in the winter time, since we rented in july, we can only imagine the winter time view. The grill that comes with the cabin looks like it has been through some tough winter/summers in the mountains and is need of a replacement.some of the light fixtures don't work.all the windows had cobwebs on them when we opened them, and we also struggled trying to light the stove eventually we had to use matches to make it light. There was a drawer missing from the kitchen.the patio area upstairs has 2 sliding glass doors, but the screen is missing on one of them and the other one has some holes in it that makes it impossible to open at night afraid of what'll fly/crawl in.The web ad fails to mention that the twin beds are in the living room, they're the type that fold down from the walls, so i would consider this a two bedroom 1.5 bath cabin.Another thing is that all the doors have a hard time locking properly, most won't lock at all.If you're looking for a one night rental, especially in winter, then this is the place,me personally i couldn't handle 2 nights in the deer's den.
