Description from owner
Description
You can camp all year round in our traditional barn, with cosy wood burning stove.
Our quaint remote Camping Barn, just outside the village of Alstonefield, stands at the foot of Narrowdale hill and enjoys stunning views. It is reached by an old bridle path which has been upgraded to allow access where car parking spaces are provided.
Having no electric and no distractions it is the perfect place to switch off from the hassles of a hectic life. Its like camping but you don't get wet! It provides a basic budget holiday for 1 to 12 persons.
The superb location and dale walks leading from the door suits campers, walkers, climbers (the Roaches and Ramshaw Rocks are nearby), cyclists (Manifold cycle trail is just down the road), scouts, Duke of Edinburgh and school groups etc as well as couples and families. Good as a teambuilding venue and for children's parties and sleepovers (large empty upstairs room).
Close to Wetton, Hulme End and Alstonefield, all within walking distance and having family pubs which do good food.
The ground floor comprises
Entrance lobby with coat hooks and plenty of room for storing boots, rucksacks, etc.
A Washroom (with flush toilet and hand wash basin, sorry no bath or shower) Being located in the barn the toilet facilities are more convenient than those often found when camping, in the respect that you do not have to venture outside or go to a different building to use the wc.
Cooking, eating and living area with two large picnic tables, kitchen units, sink and cooking bench
Multi-fuel stove - which is purely for heating the barn downstairs (there is no heating upstairs). The stove cannot be used for cooking. Only dry seasoned logs or smokeless fuel should be burned- enquire when booking.
A cold water tap at the front of the barn for washing dirty boots.
The first floor is very traditional retaining
Original exposed stone work
Magnificent internal wooden beams
The Old wooden hay stalls - these have been reused as a feature providing a safety barrier around the stairwell
This large empty room used for sleeping enjoys wonderful views from both windows
What you will need to bring-
Your usual camping equipment
A good sleeping bag (weight according to season)
A foam mat (blow up air bed) - as mattresses are not provided
Warm clothes, walking boots or stout shoes.
One torch per person, as there is no electricity at the barn
Flat safety night/tea light candles. For safety reasons it is not advisable to use ordinary candles. Candle holders and an initial supply of tea lights are provided.
Camping Stove for cooking and fuel
Cooking utensils, saucepans, plates, cutlery etc
Dry seasoned logs or smokeless fuel for the multi-fuel stove - please enquire about what is required when booking.
A couple of small tents can be pitched in the adjoining meadow - but this can only be done following prior arrangement with the barn owner.
One dog is welcome (by prior arrangement with the owner only) under strict supervision as the barn is on a working sheep farm. Please do not leave the dog unattended in the barn. Additional charge of £10 for a dog.
Please note you have to be 18 years or over to book our Camping Barn
Sorry not suitable for stag/hen/birthday/celebration/ parties because of nearby private house.
