“Fantastic scenic hideaway”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2013

We had a wonderful sunny week at Blackberry Cottage in april! The garden is lovely and full of flowers in spring - it was very nice to enjoy breakfast outside in the sun with the spectacular view. The kitchen is well equipped and we made use of the BBQ on the terrace. We were 7 adults but the house didn't feel small as we spent most of the time outdoors. (It can take some time to get everyone ready though, as there is only one shower.) It is very easy to get to Cinque Terre by boat and rail, though a car is needed to get to La Spezia. We also made day trips to Pisa and Firenze by car. We hope to return as we had a really good time at Blackberry Cottage!

“Utterly Relaxing away From It all”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2012

The property is a very nicely renovated small tower house in the hills above La Spezia with a great view over the gulf and a great, well-tended flower garden where you can always find a shady spot to read or relax. It´s nice, e.g., for your last week of holidays when you just want to have peace and quiet and an occasional visit to the beach. Getting to a nice beach (e.g. Portovenere) takes some effort so that shouldn´t be your first priority while staying at this house. The Cinqueterre is around the corner but you need a mode of transportation (car?) to it or the station at La Spezia. The hills up to house may be manageable for experienced bicyclists but not to everyone´s liking. La Spezia itself is excellent for shopping and, since kitchen and outdoor grill are in good shape, it is well-suited for families and hobby cooks. Quiet surroundings and no close neighbors add to the feeling of a getaway. While the beds were comfortable we missed a proper sitting-room. In July, this was not a real problem due to the huge garden, but in fall or spring the kitchen sitting space would be rather cramped for four people. (We suggest converting one of the lower rooms into a kind of living area for cooler or rainy days and the house would also be perfect for the off-season.) Some of the garden furniture needs to be replaced and I trust it will be since the property is well tended. We can´t really say anything about the service since we didn´t have any problems which needed to be addressed or fixed but the caretaker made a nice and competent impression. We all felt very comfortable and would return any time.

“Charming, traditional cottage with views and alot of steps!”

Blackberry Cottage is a quaint, rustic cottage perched on the hills overlooking La Spezia. The accomodation is basic but really well equipped and beautifully clean. There is wonderful terrace out the back where we enjoyed many long boozy meals overlooking the Gulf of Poets (unfortunately you can also see a rather industrial La Spezia port but it doesnt seem to matter). The front garden is terraced which is beautiful but not practical with a toddler and a crawling baby. We spent a good deal of our holiday rescueing one or both of them from plunging to their deaths! (or at least to certain injury). The bottom terrace was also concrete which didnt help. In addition inside the cottage there were many steps and different levels so again the children were bring monitored constantly. I didnt find i was relaxed unless they were in bed (two rooms upstairs perfect for children) or if we were out at the beach or something. So my summary on the cottage is that it's stunning, it has a special ambiance and would be fab for 6 adults or a family older children. There is tons to do around there, loads of places to visit and although La Spezia isnt especially pretty we really loved the harbour and the market where we bought wonderful fresh food most days.

“Great view and ambiance”

We took our 3 sons (13, 12 and 10) and really loved that each got their own room. The view was fantastic they each commented on how they could watch the moon from their room. The home was fully equipped and very clean. After a full day of touring, we really appreciated how quiet it was at the villa and how centrally located it was to 5 Terre and Pisa and other cities. The garden was beautiful and sitting on the patio having breakfast and dinner was great. I would recomend this property to a friend or relative. “The Blackberry Cottage: A Wonderful Storybook cottage”

Reviewed 30 May 2011

When we arrived at the cottage at first glance upon entering the garden I knew I would love the cottage. The garden was well maintained, terraced and filled with flowers. Stefano was there to greet us and showed us around the cottage and explained how to use the stove, washing machine, TV etc. The cottage was darling, very clean and tidy. I loved that the shower was perfect and that the water was hot. The fabulous views at the cottage were of the bay at LaSpezia. Good location: It is well located to restaurants, bars and markets and near the train station to the Cinque Terre villages, close to the ferry to the towns along the coast and is on the road to Cinque terre and hiking trails. There is a hiking trail that runs along the back of the cottage to a church and past many homes. We had a wonderful week exploring the area. I would certainly go back and to recommend it to my friends and family.

“Cinque Terre with a fabulous view”

Reviewed 12 May 2011

We had an excellent stay at the Blackberry Cottage. We got in late at night our first day and alberto (and his family) helped us find the villa as its tough in the dark to locate the driveway. The driveway is steep, easy to drive, but steep and a little rough. When we woke up in the morning we were so pleased with the garden and the views. It is very private, we saw no one and your surrounded by greenery and views of La Spezia. There were 4 adults and 3 children in our party and we stayed for one week, we cooked and ate in the kitchen and outside at the pergola. It was in an amazing location to see the towns and sights of Cinque Terre. I would recommend 100%.

“Amazing location, great service”

Reviewed 13 Dec 2010

We spent a week at the Cottage with the extended family, that included three fit adults, a 2,5 year old toddler, his 7-months pregnant mom and three grandparents. Everybody was safe at the house and there were things to do that suited all tastes: sandy beaches, scenic drives, lovely sightseeing places (from picturesque villages to Pisa, Lucca and Florence), amazing hikes in Cinqueterre and its surroundings. The house proved to be comfortable and big enough to fit us all, and the on-the-spot service of Carlo was friendly and extremely useful. We would love to go back at some point and, in the meantime, we highly recommend the Cottage to all our friends.

“Our Magical trip to Blackberry Cottage and Cinque Terre.”

Reviewed 9 Dec 2010

Our entire family can't stop thinking about our stay at the Blackberry and the Cinque area even though it was more than a year ago. We would live there if we could!! Fabulous view from our cottage and the accommodations, more than we could have imagined. We were looking for something unique to the area and we found it at the Blackberry. The cottage was centrally located for other site seeing, a car is a must to access the Blackberry's location. Physically we suggest that you be able to climb a number of stairs to get down to the Blackberry from your parking spot. Can't wait to return!!!

Response from the owner Many many thanks! hope to have you again in the Blackberry Cottage ciao Alberto
