France still has the dream like quality we search for in our holiday destinations. The Tarn region in Southern France is removed from the well worn paths of foreign tourism and offers serenity and spectacular scenery to those looking for new adventures. Our recently renovated 2 bedroom cottage is a comfortable, tasteful home with splended views across the Cerou Valley. La Maison des Oiseaux offers you the opportunity to spend a while in a wonderfully perserved, yet lively, medieval bastide village with all the comforts of the 21st century living.

“Exceptional top quality home in a beautiful country village.”
We have rented many holiday gites in France in the last few years La maison des oiseaux in Cordes is by far the best of them all! The property is first class very well equipped, the view is amazing and the location in the village excellent. We had a fabulous week here and would love to return one day. Highly recommended.
Response from the owner Hi Karen Thank you so much for your comments. Pleased to know that you loved the property and we look forward to welcoming you back one day soon. Marie
“Very comfortable house with fabulous fittings and a splendid vie”
Met by Caroline who was delightful. She had prepared the house beautifully. The house is very comfortable providing a relaxing oasis, the house is fitted out with every need for cooking, superb appliances and crockery. Tastefully decorated. Perched high on village edge the view is breathtaking, yet close enough to walk to the town for supplies. Loved the courtyard, dinning under the vine, loved the restful beds and the easy access to the old village heart as well as the lower town. Such a pleasant stay.
“Wonderful idyll high in a charming old bastide town.”
We spent a week with our adult daughter in this gorgeous house in the delightful town of Cordes sur Ciel in rural France. The house and garden exceeded our expectations and Caroline the manager ensured seamless check-in and check-out. All creature comforts were on hand together with a stunning garden/terrace and a spectacular view. The house comes with a car parking space only a few steps from the door which made excursions to neighboring villages and markets very easy. We were a couple of minutes (steep) walk up to the old town on the top of the hill, which has a nice mix of shops, museums, restaurants and eateries together with friendly and charming townsfolk. We had very hot weather in July, but the house usually made for a cool and tranquil base on our return each day, despite the air conditioning not working at its best at the time. We would highly recommend this charming property for a relaxing break; we hope to return soon.
Response from the owner Hi Jane Thank you for taking the time to send in this review. You will be pleased to know the cooling system is now working effectively in both heating and cooling mode. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at our house and experienced the pleasures of being close to the medieval heart of Cordes sur Ciel. Best wishes Marie
“A wonderful home in a magnificent location”
Although the photos on the website look fabulous, the reality is even better. First of all the house has been renovated to a very high standard which makes the most of the amazing views, either while inside or relaxing on the lovely terrace. It is very tastefully furnished and everything has been thought of to make your stay comfortable. We loved wandering around the town of Cordes sur Ciel and also felt that our walk up to the house from the lower part of the town justified the bread and cakes from the boulangerie and patisserie. We also really enjoyed visiting the markets in surrounding towns which gave us the opportunity to see the stunning scenery in other parts of the region. This is one of the loveliest places we've holidayed in.
Response from the owner Dear Chris & Peter So pleased you enjoyed your stay. It's always lovely to hear the different things our guests enjoyed about their stay not only at our house but about the region. Many thanks..
“Charming house and garden in a stunning location”
This is a very comfortable and well appointed house near the centre of the beautiful, historic village of Cordes-sur-Ciel. A highlight of our visit was the morning walk down through the cobbled streets to a local boulangerie for a freshly baked baguette - the views through the low lying mist were breathtaking. The car parking facilities were very convenient and allowed us easy exit and entrance back to Cordes after our many visits to the surrounding villages, markets and countryside.
Response from the owner Hi Neil & Sue Thank you for your review. There are some many unique things to like about Cordes sur Ciel and the walk down and back to the boulangerie is one of them. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay.
“A beautiful home in divine location”
La maison des Oiseaux was superbly appointed.Every detail from the comfortable and stylish furniture to the gourmet's delight of a kitchen was thoughtful and designed to ensure that guests felt at home. The views are truly magnificent and it is certainly worth watching the sun rise as it reveals the gorgeous French countryside. We ate nearly every meal on the wisteria covered terrace. Cordes sur Ceil is a very friendly town and all our interactions were marked by thoughtful consideration and kindness.Perhaps the steep climb may put some off but there is always the little train to help you up the hill if you are laden with goodies from the fabulous Saturday market.
Response from the owner Hi Jane I am glad you got to experience the Saturday market in Cordes sur Ciel, one of the many pleasures the town has to offer. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Best wishes Marie Bird
“A perfect place to experience history, serenity and gastronomic”
Our stay at La Maison des Oiseaux began with the pleasant surprise we felt the moment we climbed the steps leading to the gate at which we entered the lovely courtyard and surrounding garden. The delightful renovation to the house was evident when entering and we were overwhelmed by the outlook over the surrounding hills and fields with their summer crops immediately in evidence. The rooms struck as very comfortable and well appointed which proved to be the case. The kitchen area had all we required and we spent the time we ate at home looking out over the spectacular yet restful view either inside or out in the courtyard. The convenience of exiting by the top garden gate directly into the medieval city was a pleasant surprise as we walked in each of the available directions to visit restaurants, galleries and shops. With our car parked conveiently nearby we spent each of our 8 days travelling east, south, north and west to places of interest and towns in some of which were fabulous markets with local produce and goods. It is an area full of history and well worth a visit and especialy a stay at the beautiful Maison des Oiseaux.
Response from the owner HI Lorraine It would seem you packed a lot into your 8 days and really got to experience what the region does have to offer and that the house and courtyard met your expectations. We hope are able to visit again. David & Marie
“La Maison des Oiseaux was a magical experience.”
La Maison des Oiseaux exceeded our expectations in every way. It was spacious, beautifully furnished and located in a breathtaking position high on the side of this superb medieval village. The atmosphere was totally relaxing and we always delighted in returning to the house after excursions into the village and the surrounding countryside. The large and attractive garden area was a real bonus and added enormnously to the overall ambience of the property. This was by far the best house we have rented in France during several visits over a number of years.
“Lovely Maison with Beautiful Scenery and Historical Sites at you”
We stayed here last year for a week and enjoyed it so much that we immediately re-booked for a fortnight this year. No regrets about that decision! Marie and David Bird have a lovely fully renovated Maison with all mod cons and outstanding views of the countryside... We ate breakfast and our evening meals out on the terrace - and took in the sun and views. There is so much to see nearby in pretty and historic villages that a fortnight barely does your visit justice. We also like to relax closer to home some days - so there's plenty to see by strolling around Cordes itself. The Saturday market is a wonderful experience with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and meat as well as other local produce. We ate in most nights (fabulous kitchen and panoramic views) but there are many restaurants within an easy walk. We will definitely return...
“A luxuriously renovated home in an old bastide town with magnifi”
This recently renovated home on the ramparts of Cordes-sur-ciel has provided visitors with a very comfortable place to stay with luxurious furniture and fittings and an incredible vista through floor to ceiling windows which are uncommon in these homes.Closeness to the town (both old and new) and in an area of France which invites exploration and involvement makes this a very desirable property to consider in making holiday plans.
