“Great Stay, Great Unit, Great Owner, Great savings!!!”

Reviewed 25 May 2013

I know vacation rentals in NYC are controversial, and consensus on the web seems to be: Don't, it's too risky. I'm here to say it can be done, just do your homework first. This place was way above expectations. Four adults and a child were able to stay here at less than half of what it would cost for a couple low budget hotel rooms in mid-town. The owner could not have been more friendly or responsive, we emailed & texted each other repeatedly. She was full of advice about what to do, where to eat, how to get there, etc. She made the process of booking, and checking in and out very easy. She went above and beyond, like leaving food for our arrival, or sending out our laundry as the washer was broken. It was like staying with a friend. The unit was very nice, the kitchen and bath were newly remodeled. It was roomy enough that on our last night there, we cooked dinner & had a small party with 13 people in the living room at one point! The building and street were beautiful and historic, clean, fairly quiet, and safe. Great trees! One night my wife and I sat on stoop, had a glass of wine and the only other people we saw were hustling back and forth to the subway. It was a 1/2 block to the subway, and from there, quick cheap and easy to get anywhere in Manhattan. One caveat is that not everyone will be comfortable walking around in Harlem, especially at night, though you probably need to take it block by block. On some of the other streets, we encountered some people who were loud and profane, but we never felt threatened or unsafe. That being said, if you don't want to go out to a Harlem restaurant or club at night, you can safely walk to or from the subway even late in the evening. Or take a cab. Between the low rates, the close-by subway, and eating in, the savings just piled up. We were able to do the near impossible - Manhattan on a budget!

“Amazing °O°”

My family from France was visiting me for 2 weeks so I decided to bring them to New York for one of them. Well, that was a really good idea! The host was really helpful with everything without asking any questions we already know all about New York in 15min! The neighborhood is not a "tourist thing" it's real and beautiful and the metro station is very clothe. If I come back to New York with friends I know were I'll sleep =) PS: All my family congratulated me to find this apt!

“¡Just Perfect!”

The house is super comfortable. Attention, on arrival and departure, was excellent and loving. All the time he kept in touch with us and helped us when we needed something. The neighborhood is very quiet and beautiful. You can walk and see history in its buildings. We recommend, we made a great choice.Kakuna We miss you!

“Charming and affordable in NYC”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2012

Perfect location for direct access to subway at end of the street to take you anywhere in the city you need to go. Apartment was fully furnished with everything from shampoo, to umbrellas in case it rained, washer and dryer, even orange juice, milk and butter, and coffee! Really felt like i was at home and not some hotel, and the price was cheaper then most hotels in the area! Beautiful kitchen and bathroom, nice private bedrooms and extra day bed for 5th adult. Apartment is on the third floor so not recommended for elderly or those having a hard time climbing a lot of stairs, but NYC in general would be hard for anyone who couldn't walk stairs really. The neighborhood was nice and clean and I felt safe the whole time, no trouble at all even at late hours of the night walking outside. Kakuna is very friendly and helpful with questions or directing you around the city. Would love to stay here again!

“Wonderful apartment!”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2012

I can't say enough good things about this apartment. It's just lovely! Bright, sunny, modern and so clean, perfect for a large family. We had 5 people total and we were very comfortable. Bedrooms are gorgeous, kitchen perfect & modern. Our host had cereal, fruit and juice already in the kitchen so we didn't have to run out for breakfast the next day. She gave us amazing suggestions for eating out, and the subway was literally steps away. We took the subway all over Manhattan. We loved this apartment, and can't' wait to go back! Thank you Kakuna we had a blast!
