“Lovely, romantic getaway in beautiful surroundings.”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2013

We often visit the Lake District though this was our first stay in Chapel Stile. The cottage was easy to find and we managed to park right outside the door, though you would struggle with two cars. The cottage inside was charming and cosy, with enough space for the two of us (it would be a squeeze for more than two). The cottage had a romantic feel about it; the window seats offered beautiful views and the bedroom was very comfortable. The rooms were clean and tidy and the kitchen well equipped. The shower room was clean and modern with a good shower. We really enjoyed our stay and went walking most days. I would recommend the Langdale valley just a short drive away, as well as a walk to Grasmere, where there is plenty to do. The pub in Chapel Stile serves good food and updated their local ales daily. Strongly recommended!

“Lovely place, so peaceful and relaxing”

This was a late booking and fortunately we were so lucky finding this cottage. The cottage has all the amenities we required, so cosy and would definately stay there again. The location was excellent. We did various walks and did not need to use the car, we used the bus service on one occasion to go to ambleside. The meal that we had at Wainwrights was excellent. Just really enjoyed the time we were there.

“'Just what the doctor ordered!'”

I won a 2 night stay at the cottage through a facebook page 'like & share' - yes, they are genuine!! I arrived at the cottage in the early evening, it was lit up (even though it was still daylight), but this gave the cottage a lovely ambience. The location was absolutely spectacular, with the rugged Langdale valley all around. Despite Chapel Stile being such a tiny village, there were quite a lot of cottages there, which doesn't give a feeling of seclusion, but does give a feeling of security. I guess different people have different preferences in this area. Parking was a bit of an issue, as the location was located directly on a narrow road on a hill, but I don't think this issue could be resolved easily, due to the nature of the area (which actually is more important to this issue!) The cottage was perfect for one (yes, I was alone!) but 2 or more would easily fit in without feeling cramped (maybe 4 would be the limit, if sleeping arrangements were in place). The roll top bath in the bedroom was luxurious & a lovely thought, I was very clean during my stay, as I was torn between the bath & the shower in the en suite! I went to the lovely pub, Wainright's Inn just a few minutes walk away, where I received lovely, welcoming service, which was reassuring as I was alone. The food was excellent value & delicious, my only complaint was that I was too stuffed for a dessert! I didn't need to use a shop, but there was one minutes away from the cottage. I didn't use my car in between my arrival & departure, as I took a lovely walk from Chapel Stile to Grasmere, which had amazing scenery & was a mixture of road & paths. I would definitely recommend Bank View Cottage to anyone who wants to stay in a lovely cottage, in 'proper' Lake District country :-)

“week in the lakes”

Beautiful cottage, well equipped, lovely decor and excellent location. Lots of walks from the cottage and a bus service providing many more options. Very nice pub serving great beer and food and a well stocked shop. Definitely hope to return!

“Cosy week away for two”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2013

When we arrived we were over the moon with the cottage, very cute and romantic, just what we were looking for! We were a little disappointed that towels weren't included in the price as it's the little extra's that make things special. However we did love everything about Bank View, it was the perfect place to get away and relax- i would quite like to buy it! The weather wasn't always great but rainy days in weren't an issue as the cottage was so lovely. In a good location to explore the local area and see some beautiful places. Will be bugging the boyfriend for a return visit!

“Utterly charming”

Reviewed 28 Nov 2012

This cottage really is as charming as it looks in the pictures and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen. Despite the horrible weather we had a very relaxing 4 days and were able to walk out of the cottage and enjoy some lovely walks (without getting in the car). The locals were all very friendly and welcoming. There was only one issue with the cottage and that was that the hot water tank is so small that it doesn't really fill the bath up enough but if you fill it half way and leave it for 20 minutes, you can top the water up before you get in. Other than that the bed was very comfortable and the cottage was extremely clean, cosy and quiet. This was my first experience of the lake district and I really wasn't dissapointed. I will be going back.

“A very pleasurable experience”

This lovely old cottage is a gem. The access from the house to village amenities was great. Great Co-op shop with all you need and a pub with good food. You don't even really need a car once you are here as you have walks in every direction. Sitting out the front of the cottage on the park bench with a cold glass of wine watching the beautiful view was highly acceptable. Car parking is a bit of a hassle as very limited area around the cottages. Loved the bath, very welcome after a days hiking the hills. Only one negative was that my other half found the bed very short, he's not even that tall. Thank you for all the lovely decor - just like home!!

“But. . . .”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2011

This is a lovely cottage, well equipped, but the bed has the worst mattress imaginable. Despite all the positives I would not return there unless a new, proper mattress was provided.

Response from the manager Thank you for your recent review. Bank View Cottage is an immaculate, well presented property nestled in one of the Lake Districts most idyllic locations. It is immensely popular with walkers and those wishing to get away for a romantic break. We advise all guests at the time of booking, to contact our office immediately regarding any problems. This way we can ensure that any issues raised are rectified as soon as possible, leaving your holiday free to enjoy. Unfortunately, in this instance, no complaints were received and we were unaware of the issue raised. The mattress provided for this property is of an extremely high quality. We must also stress that mattress types are a personal preference and unfortunately we cannot cater for all tastes. This is a wonderful property and we want to make sure your holiday or short break is uninhibited. If you have any queries or concerns please contact us and we will be happy to address your questions.

“beautiful langdales”

Bank View Cottage was in a lovely spot within the village of Chapl Stile about 4 miles from amblside. The accomodation is Clean,Compact and cosy & has everything you need for a weeks holiday. There is a local shop and a pub within a few minutes walk and three other pubs within a couple of miles. Had great time.

“Brilliant walking; great location, romantic cottage”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2011

Overall we thought the cottage was excellent. Only 2 minor criticisms. Firstly, we were disappointed by minor maintenance issues - 3 out of 4 bulbs in the kitchen light fitting weren't working and the kettle leaked quite badly. Secondly, it would be really useful to have a list on the website of what is/isn't provided - luckily we brought our own hairdryer and iron but we would have expected them to be provided with a holiday rental of this standard. However, other than these minor niggles, we had a great time and would go back to the same cottage again.
