“Spring chill out time”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2014

The assistance from the caretaker was very good. whilst the cottage was spacious, the garden was not suitable for our dog and the road outside the cottage was noisy and very busy - vehicles did not adhere to the speed restriction in the village. There was a lovely fire which was needed on chilly evenings as a cold draft came through to the lounge from the kitchen. Steps to the cottage from parking area not suitable for people with limited mobility. Good location for Windermere, Coniston, and south west lakes. Excellent pub serving great food 5mins away.

Response from the manager Thank you for taking the time to inform us of your feedback after staying at Crake Cottage. We are pleased you found the assistance from the caretaker beneficial, the location of the property and enjoyed the open fire in the lounge. Lakes Cottage Holidays hopes to welcome you back to Crake Cottage or another Lakes Cottage Holidays property in the future. Kind Regards, Lakes Cottage Holidays 017687 74060

“Gorgeous cottage”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2013

My girlfriend and I stayed mid October in this gorgeous cottage. We visited the lakes which were about 20 minutes drive from the cottage. There are two brilliant pubs in walking distance from the cottage which we enjoyed during the evenings. The rooms in the cottage were bright and spacious which meant most mornings we struggled getting up. The living room and kitchen were brilliant and allowed us to rest after a long days waking. Highly recommended for couples and small groups. Thank you!

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of your stay at Crake Cottage. We are pleased you enjoyed the location of the property and found the cottage to be spacious and bright. We hope to welcome you back to Crake Cottage or another Lakes Cottage Holidays property in the near future. Kind Regards, Lakes Cottage Holidays 017687 74060

“cosy”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2013

Well-equipped, clean and welcoming cottage in an excellent location for both Coniston and Windermere lakes. Parking something of a challenge, up a narrow lane next to the cottage, requiring some careful car handling. Road right outside the front of the cottage surprisingly busy, but work on local bypass was probably sending traffic by the smaller lanes to attempt to avoid delays. Garden suffering from lack of attention. Pity, with such fabulous weather we would have used it more. These are minor grumbles. I really liked the kitchen/diner. The sitting room was very dark, but that did not matter as we only used it in the late evenings. We had such wonderful weather all week, it was a pleasure to be there.

Response from the manager Thank you for your feedback of Crake Cottage. We are delighted you enjoyed your time at the property and had lovely weather for your stay. We have passed on your comments regarding the garden at Crake Cottage to the owner and they have taken this on board. We hope to welcome you back to Crake Cottage or another property with Lakes Cottage Holidays in the near future.

“Lovely cottage in fab location”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2013

Although we had trouble obtaining the key we found it eventually! Cottage is lovely and enjoyed the open fires on the cold evenings!! 2nd local pub lovely - a few mins drive from the cottage. The scenery on walks from the cottage were gorgeous! Would go again!!

“Fantastic!”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2013

This is an absolutely fantastic cottage, so beautiful and full of necessary amenities. It's very spacious, there were 6 of us and a baby plus 4 dogs and I never felt overcrowded, The reason I only gave it four stars is not really the fault of the cottage but the lack of public paths in the local area and on the walks to the pubs, with a pram and 4 dogs this can get quite flinchy, the closest pub did not do food at the time but were en-devouring to have the kitchen up and running by the end of May so hopefully they do now. the two closest pubs are very nice. I also wouldn't class it as a very dog friendly place for walking dogs, but we were there during lambing and calf season, the cows are very protective as we discovered during a walk much to our horror. Overall I'd say it is a great place for a slow relaxing holiday, not a boring holiday but a unwinding and pleasant time. Thanks.

“Home from home!”

Reviewed 16 May 2013

First impressions often last and our first view of this delightful cottage was the front garden blazing with hundreds of daffodils! Inside the cottage was incredibly warm, clean, spacious, well maintained and cosy with everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The local pub has just re-opened and will be serving food from the end of May. Lots of walks locally and Coniston's only a short drive away. Will definately be coming back!

“a perfect honeymoon!”

“A wonderful place to relax”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2013

My wife and our two boys together with my mother in law rented Crake Cottage for a few days over the New Year. Whilst the weather was dreadful and the river Crake had burst its banks it was a wonderful break. Despite the weather we were able to take our dogs and get them out for long walks. The fresh air and the surrounding countryside were just what we needed as a family. Having returned to the cottage soaking wet we were able to light a fire an relax. I would definitely recommend Crake Cottage although for anyone going during school holidays I would highly recommend booking restaurants in advance of your trip as we struggled to find places in Ulverston that were not fully booked.

“a wonderful stay over Christmas”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2013

We had stayed at Crake Cottage before so we knew that we liked it. We were there over Christmas from Christmas Eve for 5 days and left on the 6th day. Before we went I wondered if they might have put up a Christmas tree. Not only was there a lovely Christmas tree they had put up Christmas lights, wreaths on the doors, candles, Christmas stockings hanging either side of the (real) fire which we used and they left us mince pies and mulled wine. The caretaker also went in before we were due to put the Christmas lights on. What a welcome is that! It really put the icing on the cake for us. If there is a problem you just ring the number provided and someone sees to it. It's a very comfortable cottage and we didn't want to leave.

“Relaxing and comfortable”

Reviewed 16 Nov 2012

Arriving after dark we found the access arrangements very convenient. The cottage was warm, clean and welcoming after the long drive from Devon. The parking was a little tight for a large vehicle - we have a VW Transporter and it was tight getting into the drive if you we're coming up the hill, not so much of a problem if you approached from the opposite direction. We struggled to find somewhere which would accommodate all 4 of our dogs, so we were delighted to come across this gem. The garden was secure so no worries about them being out on their own... Couple of gaps in the hedging in the far corner which could be attractive for a small escape artist but our collies wouldn't have got through. The cottage was fully kitted out with everything you would expect including a huge pile of soft towels :-) The only bad point was we felt it would be a bit of a squeeze accommodating 6 which is how it is advertised. There is only 1 bathroom, so only the 1 toilet and shower. The front room would comfortably seat 4 but 6 would be tight. That said, this did not affect us as there was only the two of us and the four dogs so perfect for our needs. Would recommend to anyone as the location was excellent for a range of walks... Woodland, lakes and beacons all within easy drive.
