“Wonderful stay perfect accomodation”

Reviewed 2 Mar 2014

This lodge is in the most beautiful setting the photos on this site don't do it justice. The Lodge is very well equipped and furnished to a very high standard. The owners are very welcoming and friendly. We had a relaxing comfortable break and would recommend this lodge to anyone looking for peaceful restful break. Will definately return in the future.

“Splendid”

Reviewed 5 Feb 2014

We stayed for a week at the end of January in blustery, cold and wet weather. The lodge was very cosy and, thanks to large windows, never felt gloomy. It was a really nice place to stay with extremely good facilities and a nice sense of style. The bath and shower rooms were excellent, the bed very comfy and everything worked as it should. The owners alison and Gordon, could have not been more helpful or welcoming and brought a regular supply of logs for the wood-burning stove. Very nice people. The location was very good for us as we wanted to visit both Carlisle and the northern lakes and Paddigill Farm is about equidistant between them. The local villages are interesting and friendly, too. We'd happily return.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of Calva Lodge We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at this property despite the weather. We hope that we can welcome you back again in the future. Kind Regards Lakes Cottage Holidays Tel 017687 74060

“Unique and unforgettable experience !”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2013

We were very impressed with the quality of this very cosy and comfortable lodge. We have just stayed for a Christmas break with our friends and our little dogs. The owners, Alison & Gordon were a lovely couple and very helpful with information about the area, and suggested some really good places to visit. The setting and views from this lodge are stunning, especially the sunrise! If it's not cloudy! There are some lovely walks , and one which we enjoyed was called Winslatter which is not far away. We would most definitely stay here again, although it was Christmas week and the weather was rather wild it didn't stop us getting around the area, it would be great to come back in the summer to enjoy it even more.

“Absolutely beautiful lodge in a quiet and relaxing place”

Reviewed 17 Nov 2013

The lodge was absolutely gorgeous in a quiet place on the hillside. The owners were very accommodating and a lovely couple, they had literally thought of everything to make our stay as relaxing and welcoming as possible. The place was so cosy with the wood burner. Would recommend it to any one. I want to go back!

“Nice despite the weather!”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2013

In the lakes the weather plays a big part, so inevitably this review is coloured by the fact that it rained an awful lot for the four days we were there! If the weather had been nice,we might have been content to explore the local area, but as it wasn't, we decided to travel to old favourites such as Grasmere and Keswick - and found we were a bit far north to do that easily. There were 3 of us and a dog - and at times it was a bit small for us, especially with the lounge kitchen and diner being open plan. However the decor and facilities were superb - constant hot water, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. An electric kettle could be added - but that's nit-picking. Bedroom walls were a bit thin - a shame they're very close together. On the whole we thought the lodge was very nice, comfortable and welcoming. The owner was also very friendly and helpful.

Response from the manager Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Calva Lodge. We are pleased to read you found the decor and facilities provided at the property positive and the welcome you received from the owner of Calva Lodge. Lakes Cottage Holidays do appreciate your comments and hope to welcome you back to one of our properties on your next stay to the Lake District. Kind Regards, Lakes Cottage Holidays 017687 74060

“Perfect location, high spec lodge, would definitely recommend.”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2013

We chose this lodge for a relaxing long weekend in the country. The lodge was very homely and of high quality. There are numerous walks nearby and the village of Caldbeck is also a close walk away. Here we found a relaxing public house (dogs welcome), cafes and a shop. We loved it here and would definitely recommend to those who love walking and being in the countryside!

“A wonderful experience.”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2013

Calva Lodge is set in a quiet, beautiful location. On arrival we were met by the owner who gave us a warm welcome and explained the lodge and facilities. The owners wife later introduced herself and explained they were available for any help or information we may need. The Lodge itself is quite new, it is very clean, comfortable, well equipped and finished to a very high standard. The Lodge is situated on the owners farm, surrounded by fields and beautiful views and visitors are encouraged to get involved in farm activities. Scamp the farm dog was a regular visitor to our door, she was very friendly and gave us much pleasure watching her play with the sheep With directions from the owner we were able to walk into the nearby village of Caldbeck where we enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at the Oddfellows arms. The pub is traditional and dog friendly which is a real bonus for dog lovers. We travelled to the coast were very disappointed. Grassmere on the other hand was a wonderful experience, a beautiful village with lovely scenery and unusual shops. The gingerbread shop was smaller than expected but the gingerbread worth a try. Our only small criticism of the Lodge was that the windows, being floor to ceiling, could only be opened on a vent so the rooms became quite warm and stuffy. The owners apologised but said they were looking into how to rectify this problem. We had a really wonderful time at Calva Lodge, peaceful and relaxing. It was ideal for sightseeing, walking or just chilling out.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review of this property. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and warm welcome from the owners. We hope that we can welcome you back in the future. Lakes Cottage Holidays 017687 74060

“Lovely Location - wonderful accomodation!!”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2013

The people were lovely, a very nice welcome pack was awaiting our arrival and we often stopped and passed the time of day with the farmer and his lovely wife. They also had a nice dog which made us feel far more relaxed about our dog being there, especially as they often played with each other! The facilities in the lodge itself were first class, the finishing of it and the furnishing is very tasteful and made it very comfortable. The bedding etc.was very luxurious. The setting for the lodge is absolutely glorious, we managed to have our breakfast outside in the picnic area once or twice and our evening meal - the scenery was beautiful. Even in bad weather the views from the lodge's big windows are terrific. We looked at a number of cottages before we booked the lodge, and we had stayed at another farm cottage in the Lake District previously. We chose it because it look well equipped, particularly for the money. I have to say that from the moment we walked in we were really taken with the lodge and it exceeded our expectations by far. Could not recommend the lodge more highly!!

“Glorious situation in the Northern Fells”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2013

Well appointed, comfortable cabin with beautiful views from large picture windows or decking on fine days. Isolated and wild the scenery is stunning. Situated on a hill farm with very characterful sheep and a comic Patterdale terrier called Scamp. Gordon and alison Watson made us very welcome and were very helpful throughout our stay. Calderbeck is nearby with a small Village store and a pub serving meals. Keswick is 15 miles away over hill and dale.
