“Amenities promised but not delivered”

Reviewed 13 Mar 2014

there were 6 of us that decided to stay here to help celebrate a birthday. The pictures seemed promising enough but the 2 big draws were the hot tub and each couple having a real bed in our own rooms and not a bunk bed. And the cabin is as described- with 3 bedrooms and bigger beds, however the size of the cabin with the beds basically made 2 of the 3 bedrooms all bed and no room for anything else. And the beds weren't very comfortable (unless you like the egg crate foam filling). Secondly, the hot tub, like so many other reviews, wasn't working. In fact, part of the side panel that opened into the electrical was exposed which is dangerous! As for what else the cabin comes with- cheap, thing towels (I'd recommend bringing your own), a foosball table that the balls get stuck in and you have to get under the table/shake it to get, and the stairs are hazardous. They stais are steep and the actual steps are thin so it is very easy to slip down them. Finally, the location is okay- not quite as close as they make it seem to the tram. Yes it is walking distance but plan on walking a bit. On the other side, all the pots, pans, dishes, everything was there. And we were allowed to have late check out for free. All in all, I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it.

Response from the manager Hello Megan, Thank for taking the time to leave us your feedback on your recent stay at Bears Den. We wanted to take a moment to update you and let you know that we purchased memory foam bed toppers for the beds. As far as the hot tub we think there may be an issue with the electrical breaker, we are in the process of having it fixed and replacing the side panel. Next time, please give us a call so we can have someone sent out as soon as possible. We are also going to take the Foosball Table apart and re-level it. We do hope you will give us a call in the future so we can find exactly what you're looking for! Best Wishes, Velvet Reservations Manager

“Nice place”

enjoyed the stay and would recommend it to other people. had a nice comfortable space and was also close to many of the activities. check in and check out was very simple/easy as well

“Roomy but needs some upgrades.”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2013

The home was nice. It had the space my family was looking for but has some pretty big issues that could be resolved quickly. I picked this place for the hot tub, unfortunately it didn't work for the first 2 days we stayed there. After maintenance fixed it, it took 10 hours to heat up, so by the time we were ready to use it it was 5 in the morning. All of the exterior doors have a 1 inch gap around them, not a big deal during non winter times but when its 10 degrees out side, its pretty lame. We ended up using pillows to cover the cracks as best as possible. Some issues were not related to the property, just the readiness for guests. There was no bakeware in the house, so no cookies or great warm treats. There is a closet downstairs that has a ton of things thrown in, didn't waste my time figuring it out but it should be cleaned up. Again, the place was roomy and worked for my family but I found my stay not so relaxing as I had to go to extra measures to get comfortable and was disappointed in the attention to detail in preparing the location for guests.

“old, run down, smelled like cats”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2013

cabin we originally booked became unavailable and we were moved to Bear's Den (was told it was a great cabin). Bear's den is old and dated, beds are very uncomfortable and cabin is poorly stocked with supplies. The worst part was the mildew and cat smell. Think old cat lady's house. Will never book with cool cabins again.

“cozy getaway”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2012

Our family of 5, 2 adults and three teens, found this nest cozy. Close to needed attractions, we were happy with the location. Whether we wanted to go to the lake, or to the grocery store, everything needed was at a close driving distance. The master bedroom was roomy for a cabin, whereas, the other two rooms were snug, but cozy. The jacuzzi and BBQ made for a relaxing evening. The kitchen and dining area were very spacious for a great family style meal. The neighborhood was quiet, and guest services was readily available. Downside were the bathrooms, if you are close to 6-foot, the baths are not going to suit you. A nice home, for a nice getaway.

“A great getaway with friends”

Reviewed 22 Feb 2012

Clean cabin with nice fire place, hot tub, and foose ball table. The 3 bedrooms are all up some pretty steep stairs. Wasn't a problem for any of my group, but could be for someone w knee or hip problems. Overall nice place for a reasonable price. Would recommend it.

“Cozy experience”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2012

This was a great cabin, lots of space, a fooze ball table and nice wood stove. The back hard was well fenced for my dogs, there was a large cut out on the side of the cabin in the back yard that my dog got into, however once noticed easily blocked so the dogs were safe. If you are going to enjoy the cabin it is clean and spacious. The hot tub was ok, the jets didn't work, it was a reasonable temperature, although it could have been warmer, however that may be a personal opinion.

“Nice cabin for what you are paying for.”

Reviewed 8 Feb 2012

Bears den is a very cozy cabin the rooms are small and the bathroom upstairs has a ridiculous shower. However, you cant beat the price and location. The hot tub is wonderful after a long day of snowboarding and the foose ball table provides hours of entertainment. I would stay in the again for another guys trip, but would have to find something a bit nicer for the wifes to come along.

“Cute Cabin--Can hear everything!!!”

Reviewed 1 Feb 2012

This was a cute cabin, but you could hear everything everyone else was doing at any given time. One room upstairs particularly allowed you to hear conversations in the kitchen, while generally you could hear conversations or noises in any other room of the cabin throughout. It was older, but fairly well maintained. The walk between the hot tub and the stairs was frigid at night. Further note on the hot tub--it gets adequately warm, but it took a day for it to heat up initially then cools off very quickly in the cooler weather, only allowing you up to an hour of truly warm temperature. Location was exceptional. A quick 5 minutes to Snow Summitt. Service was good, as we had to call them twice for various maintenance issues that cropped up and they came first thing in the morning.

“Very old and not well managed”

Reviewed 1 Feb 2012

The cabin is very old. Our stay there in general is ok. Two things bothered us: 1. the roof in the kitchen is leaking. When we called the manager, they said we may change to another cabin but they refused to repair. Since we've already unload all our thing and only stay for one night, we didn't bother to change. 2. Many seasonings have run out and nobody refill it.
