“-love the limestone beach and clean swimming water”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2012

-Rent Cottage + owners very accommodating -difficult to get airflow in cottage during the hot weather; bathroom tiles in shower need replacing - grout is moldy; kitchen very well equipped but lacking in storage space for food; limestone beach and lake just absolutely beautiful - small island off shore to swim to; bed in MBR was a challenge to sleep in, in terms of length, for my 5'10" tall husband; an easy trip to Tobermory, but far enough away for the solitude and privacy we were seeking

“Quiet and relaxing”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2011

A very enjoyable week. We did several local trips, but the main purpose was to have a quiet week, and this was achieved fully.

“Beautiful wilderness retreat”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2011

Beautiful location overlooking a bay on Lake Huron. West-facing deck provides great sunset views over the water. One neighbouring house visible from driveway, but otherwise you feel like you have the whole wilderness to yourself. 200+ feet of rocky shoreline, private dock. Canoes are included, and the water is very calm in the sheltered bay. Be aware that it is also very shallow in places (randomly varies from 10 feet or more, to ankle-deep, even in the middle of the bay) so navigate carefully. Interior of house is beautiful natural wood (floors, walls, vaulted ceiling) that looks especially nice in the warm sunset light through the large bay windows. Well-stocked bookshelves will certainly provide something interesting to read. Location is about 12km from Tobermory, towards the end of a dead-end road, so there is very little road traffic. Other side of the road is parkland, and may contain wildlife. We didn't see any large animals (such as bears), but we did see a rattlesnake in the yard. Overall a beautiful wild location for those who want to get away from always seeing a dozen neighbours in the city.

“Excellent balance of relaxation and activity”

Reviewed 29 Oct 2009

My girlfriend and I saw the posting for the cottage and booked it with absolutely no problems less than a week before our vacation. The cottage was quiet, very clean, warm, and neat. The property is on a wide shallow bay, surrounded by trees and screened from the road, which made it feel very private. All appliances in the cottage were efficient and worked well (including the wireless internet, which was nice to have), and water (hot or for drinking) was no problem. When it comes to relaxing, we took an active approach, and the cottage suited us well for that. During the day, we made full use of the bikes and canoe available at the cottage, and also went hiking on the many trails a short 5 min drive away (Bruce, Fathom Five, Singing Sands, etc). Downtown Tobermory was about 15 min away, and no chance to get lost. We also spent time on the deck overlooking the bay and relaxing (which was close enough to hear the waves quite clearly even inside the cottage). In the evenings, we went down and used the outdoor firepit, or went stargazing by the water. On the whole, our week at the cottage was perfect for being just as active or relaxed as we wanted to be. I would recommend it, and would certainly return as well!
