“This was the perfect place to stay in Rome.”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2012

We stayed in this lovely loft apartment for a week at the end of September this year. The apartment was clean and full of light. Simply furnished, but it had everything we needed. The location was absolutely perfect - it was very central, and we walked everywhere. Although there were several restaurants right on our block, and we ate at, and enjoyed, a few of them, it also felt like a secluded little street away from the busy city. It was very quiet at night, so easy to sleep. The air conditioning worked very well, and the kitchen appeared to be very well equipped, although we did not use it. The wireless internet worked really well. Federico the owner was very prompt returning emails, and helpful when we arrived, arranging transportation from the airport, and also ordered a taxi for us the day we left. We did not need to call him during the week at all, but I felt he would have responded very quickly - he lives very nearby. If we ever return to Rome, we absolutely would stay here again. If there was anything even slightly negative, I guess I would mention that it would be nice to have a stand-up shower. However, that was not a major difficulty, and the positives outweighed the negatives by a very large margin. Rome was a beautiful city, and we felt completely safe, especially in our own neighbourhood, the Jewish ghetto.

“When in Rome do as the Romans do!”

After many trips to this fantastic city my girlfriend and I finally found the perfect place to stay and we are looking forward to visiting Rome again. La Casa al Portico is located in 'Ghetto', one of the best 'rioni' of Centro Storico (the very core of historical Rome). Within walking distance from the buzzy spots and from some of the major monuments, museums and shopping streets, it is a trendy and sophisticated but laid back area, still very authentic and relatively quiet (we watched Woody allen shooting his last movie just there!). The loft has a minimalist décor (we personally loved it) and it is large, comfortable and cozy. It has an amazing light and a view on a secluded courtyard. It's so romantic that some nights we cooked at 'home' and had candlelit dinners. No risk to miss anything though, the location is so perfect that it's never too late for an amazing 'Rome by Night'stroll. Alternatively there is plenty of restaurants, pizzerias, trattorias and wine bars around. I wish I were a (very lucky) Roman and had such a beautiful little house for myself but staying at La Casa it is the closest think to be one of them for a few days, and it is something we will not forget. Arrivederci Roma!! And ciao Federico! Thanks again for your kindness and your useful tips.
