“Do not miss this opportunity!”
What a fabulous house! The house is unique, the location is excellent, and Debra is a wonderful host. As I sat on the front porch in the morning and early evening, I began to think It was my home as I waved to neighbors walking by on the path. I look forward to another visit. Oh, and the delicious cookies Debra left in the cookie jar hit the mark for someone with a sweet tooth.
My friends and I stayed here for a UVa football game and this place was perfect! Debra was very warm and welcoming. We are already planning out next trip!
“Best Vacation Rental ever!”
The Recycled House is amazing! The photos are lovely, but don't do justice to the uniqueness of this home. We had a wonderful stay, starting with our tour, given by Debra, the owner. She took us around the house, pointing out some of the recycled elements and telling us their history. How many homes have tiles from a swimming pool (No Diving!)in the shower? Or croquet balls built into the banisters? Each day we discovered new details we hadn't noticed before. Whimsy and creativity are visible throughout the home. Our tour ended with the cookie jar, filled with delicious cookies from a local bakery. So sweet! The house was very cozy. The bed was super comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. There were games to play, books to read and a lovely upstairs porch surrounded by trees (felt like we were in a treehouse). The location was great - an easy walk to downtown, close to lots of shops and restaurants. We had a fabulous weekend in Charlottesville. We'll definitely be going back to the Recycled House. Thanks, Debra!
“Just like home”
Debra and her team did an amazing job with this unique house and you can tell a lot of time and love went into the design. Debra was so sweet and welcoming. She even stocked the cookie jar with yummy cookies from a local bakery. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable and the location couldn't have been better. We were able to walk to and from the downtown mall area, eliminating the need for taxis. We had such a wonderful time during our stay in Charlottesville and would definitely recommend the Recycled House, especially to small groups of people who want to stay together. It was our home away from home! Thanks Debra!
“This place is amazing.”
The pictures do not do it justice! The Recycled House is amazing. Debra gave us the tour, and I actually took notes and photos afterward because there are so many ideas I will be stealing for my place. The house is very inviting and fun. We cooked several meals and the kitchen was great. Our friends took the bedroom and we slept on the sofa bed and it was totally comfy. The downtown mall has a lot of great restaurants and its really close by. We were able to walk just about everywhere. We had a great time at Monticello and we enjoyed some wineries, and the Recycled House was great to come home to. Especially those delicious cookies Debra had in the cookie jar. We cannot wait to come back sometime. Thank you, Debra!!
“Memorable, unique and educational lodging”
The Recycled House is a marvelous alternative to generic retail hotels and the like. My girlfriend was ecstatic about its clever use of recycled resources. One can obtain a first hand look how bleacher parts can be incorporated tastefully as steps, as an example. The pictures are representative of what one could expect, though of course it's better in real life. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives.
This house was a labor of love and it shows. Every detail is unique and inviting. Debra and her builder, Scott, pulled out all the stops finding resources for old materials and ways to use them in the house. She is the hostess with the mostess and I feel honored to have been a guest here.
“Great house, but there are some issues that can easily be addres”
First, let me say that the owner, Debra Weiss was extremely delightful to deal with. She and her partner have done an amazing job with the construction of the home. It is truly unique. My wife, daughter (1), son (3), and I visited Charlottesville for a weekend getaway. I found this unique house for rent on FlipKey. It is in a heavily wooded lot. Upon arrival, Debra gave us the full tour of the home and its unique features. As she showed us the refrigerator, we (including Debra) were suprised to find food left in the refrigerator from the previous guests and the builder who was at the house when we arrived from our 3 hour drive. Of course, after noticing that our eyes were wide open looking for other issues. The house was generally dusty and cob webs were throughout. "Stink bugs" and mosquitoes were present throughout the home. There was a general musty scent in the house. My wife used the downstairs rest room and noticed some urine stains on the toilet. The coffee pot had water in it, presumably from the last time it was cleaned or used. We did not feel comfortable walking around barefoot, nor were we comfortable with our children crawling on the floors. We were a bit upset by this because Debra charged me a cleaning fee. I felt like if I was paying a cleaning fee, then I would expect the place to be clean when I arrived. Thankfully the bed sheets were clean, and we were out most of the day so we were able to tolerate the issues we faced. Other than those issues, the house has a lot of good potential. Debra had placed fresh flowers in the home. She even brought over some tea for us to have. The creativity of the use of materials is something out of a magazine. I would caution folks with young children about renting this home. The stairs are steep and have hard angles to negotiate. With a few touches like cleanliness, some air-fresheners, and maybe some candles, this could really be a great place I would come back to stay.
