Description

The Recycled House is a unique structure in Charlottesville's lovely North Downtown neighborhood. It is constructed primarily from materials that have come from somewhere else and are getting a second life. It took over five years to collect the materials and use them in a thoughtful way. The house was designed as a guest house and a lot of effort has been put into building a place that's welcoming, interesting and fun! The materials give the place a lot of soul, the light from the 33 windows is fantastic and the location could not be better!

Charlottesville's historic Downtown Mall is just 4 short blocks away giving you access to over 60 restaurants within walking distance as well as movie theaters, concert venues, grocery stores and some great shopping. The University of Virginia is less than 2 miles away and accessible by the free trolley service. Monticello is less than 5 miles away--about 10 minutes by car.

There's a king-sized bed in the master bedroom. The loft has a sleeper sofa that sleeps two, and there's a queen-sized sofa sleeper that sleeps 2 in the living room. The kitchen has top-of-the-line Bosch appliances. There's a side porch, an upstairs deck outside with a treehouse feel, and another deck (made out of aluminum bleachers!) off the kitchen in the back yard. A washer/dryer is available off the master bath.

Getting around

You can get to the mall and surrounding areas on foot. The free trolley will take you around the university area and the UVA hospital. The bus gets you around town. There's Uber and Lyft and taxis. For going further afield, you'll need a car.

Interaction with guest

I will greet you when you arrive, show you where to park, and give you the Official Tour of The Recycled House if you're interested. I live in the other house on the property. We probably won't see each other during your stay (unless we bump into each like neighbors) but I'm readily available if you need something.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your booking page. To change your dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Debra (the owner) a message.

If Debra (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
