“Exceeded our imagination, it's a must do!”
We loved our stay in the treehouse! Not only is this a modern day treehouse, but Skye's attention to detail when he constructed this unique place is evident everywhere you turn. From the live trees growing through the interior, to the 8 ft high windows, to the catwalk atop the Ohia trees, it truly is a one of a kind experience. Skye recycled used construction material to bring the beauty of the outdoors, indoors so creatively and naturally. Even the toilet paper holder is made from beautiful tree branches. The only downside for me is that if it's a very windy night the treehouse does rattle and sway. I didn't mind it much, except that I'm a light sleeper so it kept me awake. The location to Volcano Nat. Park is very convenient and we really enjoyed hiking through the park and eating lunch at the bottom of a crater. Staying at the treehouse made our experience in Hawaii that much more memorable. Discovering this place has brought about an interest in treehouses and entices me to explore more in my travels. It's a must do! Thanks Skye!
“Fantastic, trippy wondrous!”
Let's face it. There is no other place in the world like Skye's Treehouse. Dedicated to sustainability before it became "cool" Skye took his prized principles one step further... building a living, breathing treehouse tucked solidly into the branches of five living 'ohia trees in the middle of a Hawaii Island rainforest. Which also happens to be close to the Kilauea Volcano's currently erupting vent at Pu'u o'o. (Above the vent so in no danger of flowing lava). Wishing to unplug for the weekend, I convinced my teenage boys that reading, building fires, playing cards and taking walks could be fun. No really fun! Stars, rain, sunlight, visions of birds flitting through the forest canopy--it's all here at about 30 feet above the ground in this marvelous structure. The loft-top bed gets you even higher! We had a great time at Skye's! I so admire Skye for what he's done here. Re-using many high-end materials (such as the enormous picture windows originally from luxury homes on Oahu) Skye built a treehouse so meticulously crafted and mesmerizing you just don't want to leave. It's clean, dry and well outfitted with everything you need to be comfortable in the forest. Skye himself is a lovely person whose love of nature is reflected so well in the beauty of his creation. I hope to come back again soon! Highly recommend! ***
“We adored the treehouse!”
This is the most unique vacation house we have ever rented. We loved being in a real tree house in a real rain forest, minutes from Volcano National Park. We would definitely return (should airfares permit!) and have recommended it to many friends.
The experience was simply amazing!!! The house is one of a kind, a true gem. The location is perfect too, very close to the Volcano National Park.
My husband and I stayed in the treehouse for two nights and wish we could have stayed two weeks. Very comfortable and unique lodging, and completely private. Skye has put an amazing amount of work into a beautiful place to stay. We will stay here again next time we're in Hawaii.
I can't say enough wonderful things about Skye and his lovely treehouse. It's a one-of-a-kind dwelling that is not only in harmony with the natural surroundings, but a piece of art. Sleeping among the stars and tree canopy was amazing, as was investigating every crevice of the treehouse to find some new and exciting detail. If you want a once-in-a-lifetime experience, visit Skye's Treehouse.
I stayed with my husband here for part of our honeymoon, and it ended up being our favorite place!!! The gravel road of the street the home is located on did worry us when we first drove down it - it's not in the greatest shape, and we were afraid the treehouse would be in poor condition, but that is not the case at all. The treehouse is absolutely as amazing as you think it will be. Do be aware that cell phone reception may be poor at the treehouse, depending on your providor.
“ridiculously good honeymoon.”
if you're the sort of person that would read reviews about treehouse rentals, then you're are the sort to whom i'd say: stop mucking about, and book this place. it's a very cleverly crafted, wonderful structure. in an awesome, ferny jungle. very private. price was a bargain, and skye's a nice fellow. if you need something more: it's in a town called volcano. our thanks to skye.
“We had a unique and memorable stay.”
This out of the way place was a truly fantastic work of treehouse art, and a perfect place for those looking for a completely unique place to stay in the Volcano area. It rained most of the time we stayed here, but, hey, it's in the midst of a wet, tropical forest, so it made for a magical experience. It was super cozy, warm, and inviting. We'd stay there again for sure!
“Back to nature”
The tree house is a unique place to get away and relax. There is a personal touch around every corner. We loved being above the fern forest and feeling the sway of the trees all around us. Skye is a very kind host and the tree house is equipped with all the essentials that one will need to be comfortable. We look forward to visiting the Big Island again and when we do the tree house is a must to revisit. Thank you Skye for your gracious hospitality!
