“Location, Location, Location”
My husband and I spent 2 weeks in elf studio in the Jordaan area of Amsterdam. Elske met us at the apartment, showed us around and gave us a few suggestions on places to eat in the neighborhood. It was the perfect studio for us. The location was wonderful. Walking distance from the train station and easy access to the tram. The variety of local places to eat and visit were endless. The rate was great at about $79 a night. The room was comfortable and quite large with big windows. We asked for a fan to circulate the air and she provided it immediately. It may appear a little unusual as the 3 story house opens into the studio kitchen, but we actually only saw one other person the entire 2 weeks as they were going out - said hello and that was that. The kitchen could have been a bit better supplied but it worked just fine for us. The best part was the studio was on the ground floor so none of those difficult Amsterdam stairs for us. Thanks Elske for providing such a great place to stay in beautiful Amsterdam.
“Home away from home!”
I highly recommend staying at Elf Studio. Elske is very professional and accommodating. I stayed here (on the second floor) with my family while conducting research in amsterdam for a month during the summer. It made such a difference to stay at a home with a kitchen--it had all the amenities of a home but with the added benefit of a cleaning service! Also, Elske lent me her bike for the whole month (while she was on a trip) which was incredible considering how much I would have paid renting a bike for that long. In addition to all of that, she provided a crib for my daughter and there was another bed for my son--so we were 2 adults and 2 children. The location is very central, with several tram and bus stops nearby. There are markets, a bakery, cafes, shops, pharmacies, anything you need, on the main street. The residential neighborhood was a great home away from home with a children's park across the street. I attribute our great experience to the comfort of the apartment and Elske's kind and professional nature. Feel free to contact me for any more information.
My husband & I stayed in the top floor studio for 5 nights in June. Elske was a great hostess and check-in was smooth. The studio is lovely and very comfortable and located ideally in the Jordaan. We were surrounded by locals and the neighbourhood felt very safe. The flat is spacious with two beds (one double, one single/twin) and a dining table. The bathroom is also spacious. The WC could use some ventilation but the rest of the flat had plenty of fresh air and natural light. There is a skylight and two large windows in the main living area and a smaller window in the bathroom. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others. Thanks Elske!
“Personal assessment of the apartment "elf studio"”
The owner "Elske van de Hulst" is a very nice person. Her apartmetn is located very central. The price and performance relation of the apartment is very good.
“Exceptionally welcoming and accomodating”
I stayed at Elf Studio during Queen's week last year. There were three of us in the downstairs apartment and there was more than enough space for all of us. Elske was very helpful and provided all of the comforts of home. Our favorite part was that we had our own kitchen (fully stocked) to cook our meals. There was also a table and chairs for us to enjoy our meals together. The location is excellent in the Jordaan (especially for Queensday) and close to amsterdam Centraal. I would recommend this place to anyone and would absolutely stay again.
“Home away from Home”
A cozy apartment in the middle of the Jordaan, conveniently located close to shopping, bars, restaurants and transportation. Very safe area.
“Perfect for a long-term stay”
I had a wonderful experience at the Elf. I stayed in the top floor apartment for nearly six weeks last summer and could not have been happier. The accommodations are far nicer than you'll find for a hotel in the area for this price. You really feel like you're at home. Everything you need is provided, from a functioning kitchen to comfortable bedding to Internet service. Elske and her daughter are wonderful and unobtrusive hosts. I had a great experience and have nothing but good things to say. Highly recommended for longer-term stays and for those wanting to get away from the hotel-room grind. The location is fantastic, with two large grocery stores and a two laundromats within easy walking distance. I'm sure I will return again and again. In fact, this would be my first choice for future amsterdam stays. Highly recommended to all! (So long as you can manage the steep stairs.)
“Bargain apartment in amsterdam”
My husband and I have stayed at Studio Elf several times and have found it very satisfactory. Compared to staying at a hotel in amsterdam, it's a great deal! There are two apartments for rent and we chose to rent the top (third) floor. It has a small kitchen (mini-fridge, 4-burner stove, sink, pots & pans, etc). There are two beds - one double bed and one single. There is a bathtub & sink in one room; across the room in a separate alcove is the toilet. There is a small TV (mostly Dutch programming). No phone in the room. Disadvantages: you have to climb the stairs, which are quite steep and narrow by american standards. (We're used to it.) The bathtub is built into the roofline, so it's impossible to stand up straight and use the handheld shower head. However, we manage to get clean. Advantages: it's brilliantly located in the Jordaan, around the corner from two grocery stores, and is convenient to virtually all the major attractions in amsterdam. There's a Saturday farmer's market and flea market very close by. The top floor is quiet, with very little street noise. There's instant hot water on demand. The price would be hard to beat. It's very clean, with fresh flowers, an ironing board, lint roller, tea & coffee provided. Elske, the owner, is very helpful (she lives on the middle floor) but is never intrusive or nosy. This would not be suitable for someone who is mobility-impaired or who likes the service of a hotel. But for independent travelers who like to prepare their own meals (saving a little money) and not be hemmed in with other hotel rooms, we think it's a great place to stay.
“Lovely place to stay in amsterdam”
My partner and I really enjoyed elf studio. We had the downstairs old shopfront flat, and it was perfect for watching the world go by without being seen. Other guests and the owner enter and exit through the kitchen of your apartment, but that was no bother at all. Everything we wanted to see was within walking distance, and the neighbourhood is entrancing. I would definitely stay again.
“Everything about our month-long stay was excellent--especially o”
My husband and I stayed in a third-floor large, one-room apartment with a modest kitchen that was perfect for our needs. We stayed there for the full month of October,2011, and loved every minute of it. The views from our two windows were fascinating. The steep staircase, typical in old homes in the center of amsterdam, was not so much a challenge as it was engaging. The neighborhood was quiet yet full of life: lots of outdoor restaurants and fascinating shops. We always felt safe walking in the neighborhood. Within a three-minute walk, next to the tram stop, there is a state-of-the-art swimming facility with two indoor olympic-size pools that I used two or three times a week; loved it. A pleasant surprise for us was the gracious and helpful ways of our host. We highly recommend your staying here.
