“Great location but apartment had MAJOR problems”

Before I list all the disasters, I would like to point out that the description of the apartment is a bit misleading... the outdoor garden is a large air shaft covered with green AstroTurf. The exercise room is kind of a dungeon. But those are minor issues... In summary, the major problems with the apartment were: 1. No heat for five days. 2. No hot water in the master bedroom shower for five days. 3. A serious cigarette smoke condition in the second bedroom for three days. 4. The telephone and stove never worked. 5. Internet and TV did not work for two days. The chronology of events was as follows: My wife and I and our cousins arrived at the apartment approximately 10AM on April 24 after an overnight flight from the US and were assured by the agent who let us in and collected the final rent payment that everything was in working order, including TV, a wireless internet connection and a free telephone for both domestic and US calls. However, the radiator in the main room was cold and not responding to attempts to turn it on, and so the GLAM A PARIS agent turned it off entirely and assured us that it would be tended to that day. That afternoon (4/24), when it became apparent that the smaller bedroom, occupied by my cousins smelled quite strongly of cigarette smoke. an email was sent to GLAM A PARIS. There was a quick response that it would be taken care of. However, it was a few days before the cigarette smoke had been alleviated. Other problems became clear by the next day (Friday 4/25), including no heat (it was in the 50’s in Paris at the time) and no hot water in the master bedroom shower. Also, we were unable to make any calls on the telephone. These were communicated to a GLAM A PARIS agent, who assured me that everything would be fixed. By that evening, when we returned to the apartment, it appeared that nothing had been done, and I attempted to call the GLAM A PARIS office, the agent's cell phone and the “emergency” telephone number but there were no responses from any of them. On Saturday I sent an email listing problems: First, the major problem that you disregarded in your email. The small bedroom continues to be subject to bouts of cigarette smoke, which can only be somewhat alleviated by opening the window wide and being cold all night. Second, there is no heat. No matter what we do we cannot get heat, and it is cold in here. I am writing this in an undershirt, a shirt and a sweater and shivering. Parenthetically, it is a major problem that there are NO instructions on how anything works. Next, the "free" telephone does not work. So each call to your office to discus the problems (and there have been a few now) have been at my expense. Fourth, tonight we tried to cook and could not get the range to work. Perhaps if you had left instructions we might have been able to use it. Oh, yes... the internet and TV only worked intermittently. And on and on. By late Monday we had heat and a working shower. The cigarette smoke problem finally cleared up. Some things never worked properly. We were promised compensation for our problems but never got any. Bottom line... great location, if you are willing to put up with a lousy apartment and a non-responsive rental agency.

Response from the manager In response to your feedback, we are saddened to hear your comments about our customer service. We are usually known for our responsiveness and quick response to our customers’ needs. We are truly sorry you felt differently and therefore would like to apologize. Consideration must be given to the fact that this apartment was a brand new one and we therefore had to deal with obstructed heater pipes. Because of the new pipes, the heat could not be generated properly and spread into the apartment. This was also the reason why you had to deal with hot water issues. Of course, we were not aware of these main issues as we had had 2 tenants that rented the apartment before and they never complained about anything as the problem did not occur. The cigarette smell in the smaller bedroom was coming from the Art gallery nearby because of the partition separating the apartment and the gallery. We now decided to stop renting the apartment for a couple days in order to build a wall so there will no longer be a cigarette smell. We however responded the day after you pointed that out and bought all the necessary products to make the smell disappear and you confirmed it worked perfectly. As for the internet and television issues you had to deal with, please remember that we had informed you that we had to change the internet provider telling you that there would therefore be some disruptions with the internet and television. We are sorry all these issues had to be solved while you were staying at the apartment and that you could therefore not enjoy your stay as you should have. And we do apologize again and take full responsibility as you noticed as we came once a day for your problems.. Finally, your remark concerning a manual that would explain how the apartment and its devices function was a very good one. We are used to make an apartment manual in English for each apartment that we rent but we did not get time to finish it, that is the reason why we spent this extra time explaining you how everything worked in the apartment.Of course, now this apartment has one to show how to use Internet, Television, phone, washer, dryer, dishwasher, heating…. We are attentive to our clients and do our best to improve ourselves every day, even though perfection does not exist…. It is true the quality of the apartment was not the one we advertised? Regarding the compensation we promised to give you after your stay, you understand it is difficult for us to process as you called AMEX to cancel the payment, telling them you never stayed at the apartment. I hope you will not keep only bad memories about your experience in Paris
