Description

This lovingly restored townhouse in Baltimore's exciting Fell's Point historic district has been modernized and tastefully furnished. Lancaster House is available as short-term rental accommodations. While the house still retains the character of a 200+ year old home, the living space has been completely updated for today's lifestyle. Materials utilized in the renovation include oak, slate, and ceramic flooring, Williamsburg paints, Baldwin brass hardware, and custom cabinetry.

The early Federal style house (circa 1795) was originally built as a 2 1/2 story structure, one room deep, with a slanted roof and dormer. In the mid-19th century, the roof was raised to 3 full stories, and a 2 story rear addition was built. The original sloped roofline is still visible today on an exposed brick wall in the 3rd floor bedroom. The façade features carved stone lintels, which are quite rare in Baltimore, plus two cornices -- the original stone cornice above the second floor, and an ornate wooden cornice at the present roofline. The brick is laid in Flemish bond on the first 2 levels, and in running bond on the 3rd level, attesting to the different periods of construction. The unusually shaped thin bricks found in several areas of the house are thought to have been transported from Holland as ballast in the hull of sailing ships.
