“Heavenly Hanalei Haven”

Reviewed 8 Mar 2011

Until this trip to Kauai, I had always found peace and quiet in the little green cottage behind Rainbow House. Traveling with friends and family required more space than the lovely little Garden Cottage, so we upgraded this year. Did not expect to find all the comforts of home in the lovely yellow house out front! Built-in zen, including a fully stocked kitchen for my son the chef, Ipod docking station and internet connectivity for those of us who need to sneak a peek now and then, hammock and rocking chair for those of us who don't care about connecting to those back home while hiding out in Hanalei, board games and books, amazingly comfy beds with a variety of pillow options... and more. Not to mention the easy walk to the beautiful Hanalei Bay and the little grocery store. If you find my heart there, I definitely lost it...

“Perfect location & housing for multi ages, interests and habits.”

Walking and biking distance to beach, river, and shops. Driving was easy to protected beaches and activities during wind and rain storms. The house allowed for some of the seven to sleep late, others to eat and read early in a.m. I would improve on mattresses, a comfortable chair, and lighting. We want to do it again.

“Tropical Zen”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2009

I live in Honolulu, but the Rainbow House in Hanalei is where I go to be in the real Hawaii, for vacation and rest. Swaying in the hammock on the lanai to the rhythm of bird songs, breathing in velvet air filled with tropical fragrances, watching waterfalls and rainbows in the distant mountainous mist, with breadfruit to the left of me, coconut palms on the right, avocados in the back yard, and papayas, limes, and oranges all within reach, I have more than I could ever need and am at home in paradise. Rainbow house is my refuge - simple and luxurious, exotic and zen. It is easy to book and everything exactly as promised. The house is very clean, no clutter, and classy. The kitchen is well-equipped to make and serve a fancy meal at the large dining table (with a view of the mountains). The living room is spacious, cool, and comfortable for relaxed conversation, playing on the internet, or a nap. The hardwood floors are perfect for yoga. The beds are very comfortable, with extraordinary views, and quiet ceiling fans while snoozing to the sounds of rustling palm leaves just outside the many windows. There are plenty of beach chairs, mats, and umbrellas to grab when headed out the door to walk 1 block to Hanalei Bay's peaceful beach and pristine waters. After a hard day swimming, surfing, snorkeling, paddling, kayaking, sailing, and staring at the turquoise sea, it's a short walk back to jump in the bamboo-enclosed outdoor hot water shower or a shower or bath inside. Rainbow House is in a quiet residential cul-de-sac, just a short walk to restaurants and stores, but set back enough to not hear traffic from the highway. It's an easy drive to the end of the road to Kalalau trail and all the north shore's beautiful beaches and great hiking spots. It is heaven to sleep there, with the sounds of Hanalei's night rains and distant pounding surf, only surpassed by waking to such beauty, and in great comfort at Rainbow House, true paradise.
