For the price, we expected rustic and did not at all mind the 80's decor, broken mini-blinds, or the scratchy old blankets...hey, it's a beach house. However, upon arrival, we found that there was no hot water and thought that the hot water heater was broken. When we called Edisto Realty (another 1-star review), they said that the owner had a lock on the adjustment for the hot water. The owners had checked out the day we arrived (late by the way-the home wasn't ready until after 5 pm), and apparently had set and locked the hot water heater before they left. I have to wonder if they took cold, and I mean COLD showers the whole week. How very inconsiderate to not extend the same courtesies to their clients as they do to themselves. It was explained to me that everyone at the beach in the summers "down here" took cold showers. I got a good laugh and informed them that I lived on Folly Beach, about an hour away, and DID NOT take cold showers, even in the summer, nor did any one I know. When the girl realized she wouldn't be able to explain it away, she quickly moved into a "well too bad," bad attitude-mode. We brought several breakfast casseroles, a lasagna, a Thai chicken pizza, etc. with the idea that we wouldn't have to eat out every meal. They all went in the trash because the oven wouldn't heat up past 200 degrees the burners were all falling to pieces. The fact that the oven was circa 1985 with the white "flip" number clock, was fine. The fact that it didn't work was unacceptable. But we even didn't bother to call the unhelpful realtor. I guess the "rusty clothes" will indicate the condition of the washer/dryer. It's a shame because this would be a great house (it's a great location) with a few minor and relatively inexpensive upgrades...and of course, some hot water!!!
