Kahana Sunset is the only place we stay when on Maui. It is family friendly , the beach is great and you will see spinner dolphins. Kahana Sunset is only two stories and great BBQs and pool and is close to everything. We stay in D2, but all the units have something nice about them. Sullivan Properties will take care of you-Thumbs up!
“A few details”
This place has a great beach which, is almost private .We rented through Sullivan properties .Watch out as they ADD trip insurance costs to the rental confirmation and its up to you to spot it and have it removed .The property itself including the pool is very well maintained.Turtles usually in the surf to right of the beach in the evening.Great swimming beach and beach for children. Many people return year after year.Unit D2 has been remodeled and is very nice .Very laid back.
We stayed at Kahana Sunset #D2 2/4/14 through 2/11/14. The condo was nice and clean. Some of the furnishings are a little old and wore but nothing horrible. The best thing about Kahana Sunset is the beach. Although there are no privately owned beaches in Hawaii this is a close as you can get, it can really only be accessed by going through the property which keeps it free of a bunch of extra people. We spent time on the beach all but two days of our stay and there was never more than 5 or 6 other people there. There were big sea turtles there each day and we were able to get some great pictures and video. The property is a little off the beaten path, which we think is a good thing, although it does mean you have to drive a little ways to get to some of the attractions you may want to see. This was our third trip to Hawaii and our second to Maui and though they have all been great this was the best.
“Great property and unit”
Easy check in and process. Lots of space and well equipped. Great pool, quiet most of the time. Smaller beach that is in fact deteriorating but still does the job. Gentle rolling waves and beautiful sandy bottom. We played in the ocean for hours (12, 8 and 7 year old) rock wall and orange caution tape is kind of ugly... Don't focus on it and it won't bother you. A few minor things about the unit you should know. Carpet is pretty old and dirty, your back bedroom window opens up to the road with a fair bit of traffic ( we just turned a fan on a night to block the noise). Patio has an outdoor carpet on it that was always wet when we were there ... Kinda gross and tracks the wet into the unit. Walls are paper thin. We could hear our neighbor snoring. Aside from these little things it was Overall a great experience. I would rent from Sullivan again.
We were able to book this unit easily, and were very happy with it. The condo was stalked with everything that we needed and more. It was spacious and gave us 4 adults plenty of room within the living area. We had a beautiful view of the pool and beach. We used the barbeques, and patio for lunch and dinner, and enjoyed the sunset. The only downside, was the carpet in our unit was filthy, ,and we did not feel comfortable taking off our shoes. We had a 5 mo. old with us and I brought along an extra sheet for the couch, which we used, as it was somewhat used and dirty. This did not stop us from enjoying our trip. The night managers, Roger and Janet, treated us like family.
