“Great place”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2014

We enjoyed our stay at Sterling Retreat. Great location with fantastic view and all. Easy to make all the arrangements - great, helpful staff at Greybeard Rentals. Only problem that we had was when the power went out there were no candles to light so we could see what we were doing! There was a flash light, but candles would have been really really handy!! And a sharp axe would have been good too to help cut the fire wood into kindling to make a fire (was getting cold with no power even though it was only out for a short time) Other than that we had a lovely stay in this wonderful location. Had some lovely friendly dogs come and visit us too, this made our visit even more homely!

“Oh wow”

This cabin is a dream, the absolute of a cabin in the mountains. This cabin screams upscale high end rental.

“Fabulous Get-a-way”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2013

We had a wonderful stay at Sterling Retreat. It is a nicely equipped home with a beautiful view of the mountains. It is secluded and has all the comforts one needs for a perfect vacation. It takes a little patience driving up the gravel road, but the drive is worth it.

“A place of serene comfort.”

We had the sense this was a home or former home that was being shared with us. The cabin "worked" in a million little ways that one would take for granted. From the great room with TV, kitchen and dining area keeping us all connected to the comfort and privacy of the bedrooms and bathrooms the place was exceptionally welcoming. For example - the place is set up so you can't actually lock yourself out. The deck was amazing, and strangely the mosquitos stayed away. One critique might be to top the younger trees in the back yard for a better view, but this would be a minor note for likely a major job.

“We keep coming back!”

We love Sterling Retreat! We just came back after our third stay. We are scheduled to go back for a week in October. The house is lovely and works well for our family in terms of the layout and design. We love sitting on the deck and overlooking the mountains or relaxing on a cool morning in the hot tub. It is close enough to Black Mountain, Asheville and Chimney Rock and Lake Lure for fun outings, but removed enough to feel like you get a little slice of nature paradise! We love the familiarity of coming back to the same home again and again and Sterling Retreat has become our mountain home away from home! The biggest complaint I have is that the kitchen needs to be a bit better stocked (garlic press, potato masher, bigger pot for cooking pasta). Greybeard has been consistently easy to work with!

“Thank you !!!”

Most relaxing vacation we've had in years. We felt very welcome and special here. Also, you might notice a very special visitor named Smokey. He's furry, friendly and visits twice a day. Don't be afraid. He's very friendly. Loved the shower and the king-sized bed the best. Never slept so great. We will be back. Rachel if you read this, would you please email us back with the brand of bed that was? Have to have it. You've been soo helpful in every way.

“I wish it were a second home!!!”

Great cabin, wonderful trip and the folks at Greybeard are just the best!!! Would recommend this cabin to anyone! If you are staying in asheville/Black Mountain only deal with Greybeard... they will go out of their way to take care of you!!

“Enjoyed our visit to Black Mountain”

Reviewed 20 Dec 2012

We enjoyed our stay in Black Mountain. Sterling Retreat was a great cabin and our family found it to be perfect for what we needed. The only thing I would suggest is that the beds be made before guests arrive. Sheets were just lying on the bed. I was under the impression that the beds would be made if linens were furnished. Did not mind removing sheets before leaving, but would have loved not having to make up so many beds upon arrival.

“Sterling”

The town of Black Mountain was great. The local brewery " Pisgah" was outstanding. Local pizza was fantastic. A dog showed on our front door step almost every day. I think his name was Smokey? The weather was unseasonably mild for the time of year and we had hoped for cooler temps but it was still great. The road to and from the cabin was a little rough but not terrible. We had everything we needed and the stay was very comfortable. Overall I would certainly recommend grey beard and more specifically this cabin. Just as a side note, don't run the fan and the heater in the front bathroom at the same time. It will trip the breaker. In the other bathroom camel crickets like to come up the drain in the bath tub. Pots and pans are decent if you like to cook. There is a small grocery down the road "Artisan". Plenty of spices and sauces and good selection of wine but the meat selection and freshness left a little to be desired. There was another grocery store right down the road that had everything you would need. The locks on the doors are all deadbolt and require that you have the key on your person if your going in and out of doors.

“Great Mountain Getaway”

Rental office staff - prompt and friendly. "Cabin", which is more like an amazing house - wonderful! Includes many little touches you don't get at most rentals - notes from the rental company and bread waiting in the fridge; starter rolls of paper products even though it's not technically included with the rental. The main bath is stunning. View from the huge back deck is gorgeous. Feels secluded but not too far away from downtown Black Mountain or even asheville. Road to get to the cabin is definitely steep and all gravel, kind of a rough ride. Not a problem, just be prepared. We will be seeking to rent from Greybeard in the future. And would rent this specific house in the future as well.
